TKR On the other side of finally!

I am one week behind you in recovery, I can't wait to start outside PT either. Just getting out of the house, seeing people! Sounds like your recovery is very much like mine. I never had constipation problems, only minimal pain, my appitite has been great and I really have no complaints at all. I am also walking without a cane most of the time. Just use it once in a while, but getting off it more and more. I count my blessings as this so far has been a very uneventful recovery. Keep up the good work and look forward to a great spring and summer.

The only thing that is bothering me is the energy drain, other than that because of the great pain management after surgery the whole process has been pain free.
I know it takes a while to get back to normal.
My goal is to walk the beach this spring.

I'm afraid the energy drain is going to be with you for some time yet. Most of your energy is going towards healing your knee.
In a way, at this early stage in your recovery, being aware of having little energy is a good thing, because it prevents you from doing too much. What your knee needs most right now is time to rest and repair itself.

It will be one month this wed. it seemed like I waited for surgery forever. The other side has differently gone by a lot faster. It has helped so much knowing with the help of bonesmart that everything that I'm feeling is normal.

Today was my last day of in house PT. I will be going out to PT next wed. I never thought I would be saying that I'm looking forward to going to PT outside of house. I think I need to get out to clear my head. I haven't left the house in a month.

I am two weeks from surgery tomorrow and I start outside PT next Tuesday. I feel just like you, can't wait to get out and breathe fresh air!! Best of luck!

I'm not sure if I was strong enough to leave the house two weeks after surgery.
your doing great, the energy drain had me down. I have follow up appointment then next day PT that will be the test of my endurance.

Be sure you rest whenever you can. The energy drain can be a bear. When you go to the new PT, please don't let them hurt you. You have done so well, it would be a shame for them to push you too hard and cause swelling and pain. I came home and iced after PT and that was helpful. good luck!

well, I am 2 weeks post surgery today, don't actually start PT til next Tuesday. That will be 3 weeks after surgery.
I'm looking forward to going, it's another step in the right direction. Hope you do well at your first Outpatient PT, let us know.

That energy drain can take a while go away---and stamina is one of the last aspects to return---hang in there!

I will be going out to PT next wed. I never thought I would be saying that I'm looking forward to going to PT outside of house.
I really enjoyed going to outpatient PT. It got me out of the house, it got me a chance to slowly "normalize" my life, and I got to be around other joint replacement people---sort of like a club---we called it "Club 'Med'." We would compare issues and cheer each others' little victories.

At about four weeks or so, I was off of pain meds for good and I was finally cleared to drive, so getting to the PT was on my own was another big step.

Having this surgery---and the ensuing recovery---is all about bring normalcy to our lives. all of these activities add up and do just that.

When I go to PT next week I will then know if my endurance has improved. The day Before I have my first follow up appointment at the surgeons office. so the two days will be a test for me.

That energy drain is normal---pain meds contribute, but when you think about everything that was done to your knee during the TKR surgery---the surgical trauma and such---you will understand that right now, and for some time, your body is expending large amounts of energy on the healing process. Hang in there---things will slowly get better!

I have not been out side in almost 5 weeks, I decided to go out walked up some stairs it was too cold went back down the stairs no problem. My husband wanted to take my car out it's been a month since it has been on the road he drove went out for a while but when I got back my knee felt very sore. I first time uses the knee good and bad.
But I enjoyed being out.

It's 11:00 pm and I know now my knee is not happy with me trying to do too much today. Thinking I'm healed:boohoo:

Hate when that happens! Icing & elevating it will help (as always). Bet it was nice to get out though.:)

I had my 5 week follow up XRays and talking to NP. The XRays looked good. It's wild seeing that object in my knee. I guess time is on my side now. One thing I can say is my energy drain is still with me. I'm exhausted.

yes I read that, it felt like it was getting better BUT NOT.
A friend had two knees done it took her 6 months before she felt better.

Well it is only just over a month since your surgery. You're expecting too much, too soon.
