TKR On the other side of finally!

I'm 11 days post op everything seems to be going well. I'm on the walker I walk without it in kitchen at time more things to hold on to. I notice my leg will give a bit every once in a while, assuming my leg is still weak from surgery.
Did anyone have this feeling of weakness in the quads?

Yes, your quads will feel weak for a while, but they'l improve gradually. You've had major surgery, remember!

Yep, sounds normal.

Then healing is going as expected,
the only thing is I'm running out of pain meds I know I will need them for PT. I will have to call the OS office for advice. I don't know if it is the state or hospital but they are very strict on Opiates. I will have to find a alternative that works.

Your regular doctor will probably help with prescriptions of pain meds.

Don't take pain medication especially for PT, because that could mask pain and pain is a warning sign. The trick is to be on a regular medication schedule, so that you are covered during PT and not about to run out during or after the session.

Often they will give you a new prescription but they give you small ones so they can monitor you. You are pretty early out, so they may recognize that you need something. Sometimes after the first few weeks they "step down" to a milder narcotic.

I reckon mine "gives way" every other day. Surgeon said it was perfectly normal and will diminish as the soft tissue around the new joint is strengthened.

Im glad everything is normal, I'm starting to feel better every day. Just have to get on the phone and get the meds figured out. My follow up is not until Feb 23rd.

Call OS as soon as you can. In most states you need the prescription for pain meds on paper. They can't just be called into a pharmacy.

I'm on my way in for my TKR I'm also worried about the pain meds. What would be a good pain med to go to after opiates? I don't want to be on them for too long.

It is two weeks today since my TKR, my PT thinks I'm doing fantastic. The flexion right now is 113 trying for 120. Still have a little swelling around the knee and the staples are coming out tomorrow. My PT had me walking with my cane felt good she wants me to use the walker in the morning and at night and use the cane during the day. starting to see the light at the end of the long long tunnel.

Great flexion! Don't push too hard for early ROM it would be a shame to overdo it and have increased pain and swelling.

I have been using the cane every day now, I seem to keep my leg a little stiff when I walk with the cane because afraid my leg will buckle a little. one day at a time, one step at a time.:thumb:

Very true. It will just take practice and time.

I have noticed when I have my leg up with the ice machine wrapped around my knee my foot gets a little tickle I move my foot up and down to keep the blood flowing it's starting to get annoying.
Has anyone had this problem?

I will be going out for PT next week I will start improving faster and just getting out of the house I feel it will help all around.
I need to learn how to walk properly all over again I walked with a bowed leg for almost a year.

Hi @linney619 I haven't had a problem with the foot when I iced my knee but moving it sounds like a good bet. It is good that you are going to start your PT and get out of the house:) Just don't let them push you too hard. Slow and easy.
