Thanks @yiayia3 - I don't think I could manage Auschwitz, I would be a blubbering wreck. I was bad enough at Ellis Island and these shoes almost finished me off.
Think of me on Tuesday - I am off to New Victoria to see the foot man about this **** Achilles tendon. I just hope the parking is easier than the last time I went there - so few spaces!
Enjoy your weekend

@dogwheels Your Budapest photos brought back lots of memories of our trip.We went by train from the UK via Cologne and Vienna and then flew back. It was a fabulous adventure.
We stayed on Margaret Island https://www.danubiushotels.com/our-hotels-budapest/danubius-health-spa-resort-margitsziget and loved the spa facilities. It had an excellent restaurant also. Hubby's mother's family were immigrants from Hungary so we went in search of the foods his Mum used to cook --yummy! It was a good job we walked so much.... It was sad to see weapon damage on some of the beautiful buildings and brought home how recently they had experienced war. One of our next adventures will be to locate his Dad's family origins in the area just north of Berne in Switzerland.
My latest TKR is now 10 months old and has the odd twinge. I banged my shin with a grocery cart yesterday that for some reason irritated everything....Grrr!!! --but I still managed to do some therapeutic end-of-season summer clothes shopping. 75% off how could I resist having a walk and adding a few items to my closet :)

Hi @dogwheels - I thought of you this weekend as I was taking a glass blowing workshop...so I came by to share my craftiness with you! It's meant to be a pumpkin...I was a bit avant garde with my color choices though...so you might need to use your imagination a bit!!

@dogwheels

Today on the radio a travel feature on Budapest and then also in the paper this evening, you have started a trend- do you get commission from The Hungarian Travel Board ?

We were in Budapest a few years ago in January it was very, very ,very let me say again very :snow dig:
Cold!!!!

Would like to see it again in warmer weather.

Hope that your Tuesday appointment for your Achilles Tendon provided you with some solutions.

Take care,
Cathie

Hi Cathie @marmora

Ha ha - I am such a trend setter!! The Hungarian Tourist Board are obviously watching my every movement! Isnt it weird when that happens and somewhere you have recently visited is all over the media?

Budapest was grand and my ironing lady (who is Hungarian and working 24/7 here to be able to move back home and buy a house) was very grateful for my tatty bag of leftover coins and small notes!
A few years back we did Prague in the snow. It was numbingly cold. Daughter and I went to the Tescos there and bought thermal tights to wear under our trousers. We tried to get hubby to buy some but he refused :heehee:. When I was in Russia in the winter I took my gloves off to take a photo and could hardly move my fingers. Brrrrr ...

I read in the paper that this winter we are going to have arctic conditions in UK. Oh no ................

Awww @Texas Tee - no alerts meant I missed your post about the amazing glass pumpkin. It is really beautiful and must have been such fun to do. Bet you cant wait to make those Christmas decorations. I love it, and it looks so professional. Well done you!

My virus has left me with a stupid and persistent cough, I just had the hilarious image of glass blowing and coughing at the same time ............................ :rotfl:

XXXX PS Has the Big Brush arrived yet?

@ dogwheels - LOL at the picture of a cough induced glass object! It was really fun but the only reason it's not a huge mess is that the glass artist "helped" and by that I mean she fixed it everytime we tried to screw it up and did the hardest parts herself!

Amazon just sent me a text that the brush is on the truck headed to my house - will make it's debut tomorrow!

Ok! @dogwheels, @marmora, @Ellejay

First go round with the Babyliss and I thought it was ok but my hair dresser need not be concerned. It looks fine, better than I would normally manage as I normally don't do anything resulting in the hair on my avatar! But not a WOW look at that deal.

However...it's POSSIBLE that I didn't bother to read the directions or watch the utube and therefore, did not do it correctly in the least. I can see how, done correctly! it's gonna be great but even with what I did its STILL beyond what I'd normally achieve without a lot more effort. My hair is over 2 feet long, also, so that doesn't help.

Will try it the right way soon but even with what I know I'm already buying another one for one of my friends for Christmas! So thanks for the recommendation!

Hi @tiredwife - lovely of you to pop by. Your pumpkin avatar is super. Do you only decorate a pumpkin for Halloween or have lots of decorations? I know some folks in US really go to town with loads of decorations and I think its great. A house not far from us had US expats in it for years. I loved going past as they always seemed to have some sort of decoration up whether it be Easter, Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving ......... you name it. They have left now, which is such a shame. It really brightened my walk to the station.
When my daughter lived at home we always carved a pumpkin - nowadays I don't bother. We rarely get trick or treaters as my driveway is full of trees and quite dark - it scares them off! However there are a few families with small children who dress up the kiddies and the Mums and Dads walk with them to knock on a few selected doors, including mine. The other year my daughter and I were really naughty and took her pet rats to the door - poor kids were shocked, their parents even more so!
Hope you have a great weekend.

@dogwheels I just carve a pumpkin or two, our neighbors decorate as they have school age children. We had rats for awhile, they actually made good pets.
We like sitting outside and seeing the children. This Halloween might be too cold to sit outside for very long.

I work part-time at a farm that has hayrides into "scarecrow land" and we have 160 different scarecrows---a scarecrow wedding, scarecrows in a canoe, scarecrows in an office setting---and we make spiders out of giant bales of hay---here is one of them.

We try to carve the pumpkins, but, alas, like you, often times it does not get done---and I even get the pumpkins for free!

Hi @dogwheels, hope you are doing well! I went to bed at 10:00 pm tonight and fell right to sleep until 11:45 pm. Been trying to go back to sleep for 20 minutes to no avail so will visit my BoneSmart buddies.

Anything new in your world lately? I read that your new property management company is looking for a 50% increase. That is ridiculous! Are there no laws protecting you from this? Can you change companies? It seems crazy to not be able to do something about it. I wish you luck in your dealings with them for sure!

Hi Lisa @71Beetle - sorry you are wide awake and 'Sleepless in Ottawa'. I had a lay in this morning (I wont tell you I slept for 10 hours straight!) - so hopefully by the time you read this you will be having a nice Sunday snooze.

The management company thing got sorted after I huffed and puffed and said I would remove my business. As I was a long standing landlord they have contracted to retain the status quo all the time I remained with them. I think it was a bit of a try on. Lucky we read the small print!

As you can see I rarely come on here - I usually post a quickie over on Ann's 'Woo hoo' thread, to catch up with my buddies and have a quick read around to see what everyone is up to. There comes a time, as I am sure you realise, when you are not in recovery and posting gets less and less. I don't feel that I have so much to offer now - so it is more a 'penpal' type thing.

I read how you are developing your business and it sounds as things are going really well. Not long before you get that Merc! I haven't caught up about your son - I hope he has returned to live at home and resumed his studies.

Things are busy here. We had a great break in Budapest and the knee behaved impeccably. We now have completed the land purchase, and had the initial clearance (I posted some pics on NM27's site a few days ago). Loads of work still to be done - which will be done over the winter months before planting in the spring. Daughter has dumped her BF and Mum has had the first of her cataracts done. I have had a few niggly health problems and am currently being treated for a longstanding Achilles issue on the other leg (thank goodness its not the TKR one) and having loads of physio in an attempt to avoid surgery. We have sold our big boat and are literally just about to buy a big RIB, which we will use more. Despite the new knee, my days of jumping off a large moving boat onto a pontoon have long gone - so although we have had to give up being able to stay on the boat, it will mean we can whizz about and moor up using my amazing rope throwing abilities, which will be a lot safer.

Its beginning to get colder and wetter here - and although my garden is full of leaves we have had some odd mild and warm days. Yesterday I was wandering around in jeans and a lightweight sweater - amazing in November! Last year was very mild and wet - the weather gurus say we are in for a very hard, cold and snowy one this year - something you will know all about.

Hope the knees are both behaving and improving month by month. Take care.
