TKR Oh Baby feel the (k)need in me - the sequel ..

Good Morning Chris @dogwheels

Just finished using my nearly two year old Babyliss Big Brush and couldn't imagine not using it.

The Big Brush has traveled with me to the States, France, Germany, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Spain, Portugal, that I may have to apply for a passport for it !

Several years ago India Knight in 'The Sunday Times' wrote an article that The Brush had changed her hair life and later an Irish columnist Roisin Ingle in 'The Irish Times' also raved about its effects.

Needle to say Boots were sold out for several weeks, and I was on a waiting list.

Practice and you will get the hang of it, hair needs to be about 70-80% dry and for my length hair then it takes less than five minutes to use.

Each and Every time I use it, someone that day will ask me if I have just gotten my hair done.
I have saved a fortune on getting a blow dry / blow out at the hairdressers.

For the wedding last week did my own hair with The Big Brush and no one would know it wasn't done professionally.

Please let me know how you get on using it.

Have to start trying on my existing winter boots or be prepared to buy new ones :yay: and won't mind if I have to do that.

Hubby out sailing, I'm chilling out and will watch a bit of The Ryder Cup later and then out with a friend for an early bird meal tonight.

Will fit in my walks and exercises and a few small household jobs between a bit of elevating and icing today.
No time to get bored after a TKR- with the walking and exercising and resting.

Knee a little bit more uncomfortable today and stiff and hard to get to sleep last night, as I went to the gym in the local YMCA yesterday and may be guilty of membership in ODIC !

Have a good weekend,
Cathie

Hi Cathie @marmora

Thank you for the timely advice about the Big Brush. I used it yesterday and was amazed how easy it was to use. The effect was great, and my daughter said it looked as though I had a salon blow dry. I am a little mal coordinated (story of my life really!) with which way to make the brush rotate, but it was impressive what could be achieved in so little time on my first attempt. I am sure I will become more and more adept with it, the more I use it and, like you, it will become an essential bit of kit!

Hope your knee is a bit better today after your workout at the YM. Daughter had to pop into town this morning to get some new sunglasses adjusted, so I tagged along. She had bought a new pair of Raybans for her upcoming holiday and realised that her hearing aid, although tiny, makes the glasses noticeably lop sided. They offered to alter them for her and used one of those warming and moulding machines like they have in the opticians to achieve a much better fit. They look fine now. I returned my boots to Clarks, and we went in Gap as daughter has found a shape of jeans that she really likes and wanted another couple of pairs. My days of buying in Gap are long gone and I rarely even bother looking in there now. I wandered round while she was sorting out the colour and sizes she wanted, and ended up with 2 lovely big hairy sweaters for when it gets cooler, one is half lemon and half pale grey horizontally, the other the same but in black and white - both reduced to £19.99. As usual I was tempted by the stuff by the checkout as we were waiting and added 2 lovely long fabric scarves, one rust and cream stripes the other cream and yellow check both half price at £12.99, and a 'naughty but nice' pair of dove grey suede ballerina flats again half price at £16.99. Daughter said I may only wear them if I don't have to walk far as they are not very supportive, and wearing shoes like that probably did untold damage and hastened the TKR in the first place. So that told me! A productive hour's shopping then home for bacon sarnies.
Easy supper tonight as I roasted a big Forerib of beef last night, with all the trimmings. We like our beef rare, so that means eating up leftovers quickly - so cold beef salad and a jacket potato , followed by Downton Abbey. Perfect!

Enjoy the rest of your day

Hello Chris @dogwheels

Had a lovely Sunday with our two Dublin based sons over for the Sunday Roast dinner - food always attracts them home ! And we Skyped our son who lives in Norway.

My guilty pleasure before Dowton is "X-Factor" really enjoy that show and husband and boys did the clean-up, while I iced on the couch with leg elevated and a cup of herbal tea and sang along with the contestants !

Weather has been damp the last few days and my knee is feeling a bit different, a bit more achy.
Have my PT this afternoon and self-directed hydrotherapy on Tuesday and will see the OS on Thursday.

ROM still a struggle and gets frustrating at times, but it is what it is and there has been noticeable progress since my surgery.

Have a good day and wasn't it terrific that we won The Ryder Cup on Sunday !

Hi Cathie @marmora

Glad you had a lovely Sunday with your sons. Our daughter spent Saturday with us, plus we had our little shopping trip yesterday. She was wooed to stay for lunch with the offer of bacon sandwiches but reluctantly went back to her house to tackle cleaning and ironing, as she is off to Hong Kong and the Middle East next weekend.

Ha ha - we watch X Factor too. It is my husband that has the addiction, believe it or not. It is such a set up, but nice easy viewing, and the ad breaks are convenient to go and make a cuppa. I particularly enjoyed Downton this week as I love Richard E Grant!

Husband has been watching the Ryder Cup, and I have zoned in on it from time to time. Rory Mcilroy is such a legend! Neither of us are golfers, but for me anything is better than cricket or football to watch. Husband was made up on Saturday morning as there was coverage of the sailing in Santander - that was quite good viewing too. I think next weekend should be Grand Prix, but we will be off to Budapest this time next week, so will miss that.

Hope your knee feels a bit better with the damp weather and that PT goes well today.

Talk later

Hi @dogwheels. Your weekend sounds a little like mine. Shopping tv and relaxing. Downton as good as ever and X Factor just as annoying. On the subject if heels I tried some quite high wedges last week and have been suffering ever since. Not my TKR knee which coped quite well it was my right knee which has been quite painful ever since. Lesson learnt. Back to my trusty small heels again. No one ever told me in years of suffering with my bad knees that you should wear shoes with a little support and not completely flat and i wore the flat ballerina type shoes for years. My house is still in chaos at the moment with my son still here. I tend to go out a lot more. The Cheshire Oaks outlet is across the road from my home and is a wonderland of bargains. Hoping you have a happy week. Take care

Oh my goodness @robynhood, the position of your house should come with a warning. Right near Outlet shopping? Wow that's my idea of heaven ........ not good for the bank balance though.
Talking of coming with a warning, I think those ballerina flats have got a lot to answer for and people just do not realise until it is too late. The leather Topshop ones were my favourites and I spent a good 5 years wearing little else, apart from when 'dressed up'. As you say, they give no support at all so your foot is always 'rolling'. I was also shocked as when we were in Abu Dhabi, I popped out to the corner shop in my trusty black ballet pumps, and couldn't understand why my feet were so sore afterwards. It was about 50+ degrees outside and the hot pavement had burned my feet through the sole. Now I know it was hot, but it just goes to show how thin the soles are and how much jarring must occur when we are walking on pavements.
As for X factor you are right, it can be annoying, it is such a set up and a tad predictable. Interestingly, we used to regularly go to the Harlequins Big Game at Twickenham over the Christmas break, and they often have XFactor finalists as the half time entertainment. I have often found that 'live' my favoured artists (who sometimes have not been the winner) are in actual fact really not as good as their more successful rivals. I think it is a case of 'you had to be there' mixed with a dollop of digital enhancement. I love watching just to see the $$ signs in Simon Cowells eyes!
I don't normally watch 'Strictly' but may have to watch this season as I freely confess to a bit of a crush on Tim Wonacott? from Bargain Hunt - I love the way he speaks and his old school classiness. He would definitely score a seat at my 'who would you invite, if you could invite anybody (living or dead) to a dinner party?' Hey, perhaps that would be another one to put in the Social Room here - if it hasn't already been thought of.
Sorry you still have chaos with your son staying - I so hope that he is OK and gets through this. No matter how big they are, us Mums don't stop worrying and hurting for them, do we?
My daughter's pile of left behind stuff has reduced by about a third - yippee - so hopefully it will all be gone in a month or so.
Take care Pat, hope your other knee recovers soon from your high heel escapade. Enjoy your week and talk soon.

Hi Chris

I thought I'd pop in and visit you. It's been a while. I've been reading through your posts and as usual they're brilliant and such a good read. Tim Wonacot eh? I agree about his voice. I adore Oxford English oooooohhhh xxxxx

Just watching through the keyhole. Keith Lemon is irritating but sometimes very funny if you can accept his outspoken ways. I preferred it when Lloyd Gross,an did it but he irritated me. I'd spend more time taking the mick out of his accent it was atrocious xxxx

Love Ann.

Just a quick hi. Off to sleep. Everyone tucked in and doing well

Hi @susanne - sorry to hear about all the probs you have been having with your bf's care. It sounds worrying and I really feel for you.
I know how busy you must be, but just remember that I am thinking of you and hope that his health improves, so that you can relax a little more.
Lots of love and hugs

Hi @dogwheels I'm so glad you enjoyed it!!!! Please have a read of my post to Ellejay about moms antics today and last week. I just put it on x x x x

@dogwheels can I have some lessons on capsule packing please :heehee:. I can't even pack a caravan, I always add extras in when I'm supposed to have finished packing. Whenever we fly I have the utmost difficulty packing a suitcase, last year in India I had to buy an additional case as I couldn't get everything in the one I'd taken,

Good Morning Chris, @dogwheelst

You must be nearly on your way to Budapest.

Fabulous city and very interesting, if it interests you a visit to the Gellert Baths. Warm enjoyable soothing water and splendid architecture. Think that it has been used in several films.

I'm having slow & steady progress, as my OS told me last Thursday.

Take care,
Cathie

Hi ladies. Don't you ever stay put??? All I do is work, hospital, home and the best sleep
Bf finally in room. Just so afraid I may run into my first hip surgeon again. Must steal clear of au Bon pon but the toffee cookie are soooo good. Things moving along slowly. Waiting to get pulmonologist To check on him. So far top busy arguing with drs and nurses. Everyone has a different story. Believe it or not the most helpful person was the janitor. He seems to know everyone and gave us a few names to contact. I know, stop laughing. This is what it's come down to. Knee is bothering me at night, too much with the kids constantly bumping into me like an arcade game boing !boing!! But I will carry on
Hope everyone us feeling well and safe travels to these wandering around
Live to you all susanne

Hi everyone - here's a novelty - I am posting on my own thread.
Just a quickie and apologies if I don't reply in all the right places.
@Nana moon 27 - ugh those staples must have been horribly painful and your knee looks sore where they have come out, but the lack of swelling is impressive. I am SO grateful I didn't have staples. I usually heal too quick and the stitches get buried, so goodness knows what staples would have been like.
@Ellejay - scary times in the caravan - hope the weather picks up for you.
@susanne - thanks for posting. Glad the bf is doing better and the janitor is such a fount of info.
Having a great time here. Weather glorious yesterday but chilly today and then good again until the end of the week. Yippee! Don't want to jinx it but the knee has been so good so far - even negotiating the bath tub shower and stairs. We were out for 5 hours yesterday and 6 today. Knee is SO good it's just the ****achilles that acts up. Eating lots of yumminess and sleeping so heavily, I think it's due to all the exercise!
Have been taking photos but on my camera not my phone, so you will have to wait for them Ann - I'll try to do better tomorrow!
Love to all xxxxx
