@dogwheels - your poor daughter! Her garden is lovely - real shame about the neighbors...can't imagine a person who doesn't love flowers? How unhappy they must be, in general, to be so rude!

Hey@dogwheels, just catching up! I can understand your worries, but I don't think you're on a never ending wheel of 110 rom. There was a reason for your stall last time and you're moving forward now!....SLOWLY and GENTLY of course ;)

The positive of being a "solo painters babysitter" is you can have as many parcels delivered as you want ;)

As others have said, I'm sad to see what your daughters neighbours have done, what sad lives they lead!
Take care Chris, xx

@dogwheels I so get that fear. After what I did and the insane stiffness, I am just SO anxious! I am unabashedly jealous of having a daughter AND watching b to b Glees. I have two sons, I love them but I never knew what I was missing until the past few years seeing and hearing about daughters. I have trouble with the PT too. I don't know how much to push, especially now. I was really encouraged about my progress. Now I feel just SO bad.

Hi Ellejay, I LOVE your picture, puts the whole process into a visual. Yes, also a Glee fan. Aren't those kids talented. I like Glee Project who Moore added his input and the kids tried out for the next spot. Hang in there you all.

Hi @hopefaith - how is your knee today - stiffness any better? I really hope so. It may make you less worried to know that I have read of lots of people taking falls, tripping, walking into things, post TKR,on this site. Nana Moon is a prime example ..... poor Ann she has tripped on things a couple of times now. Swelling and stiffness afterwards is to be expected but there are rarely long term problems. I have had it on good authority from my physio, OS and others in the know on here, that those metal joints take an awful lot to shift and damage. I even read that in the case of a car accident victim who broke their TKR leg, the metal joint was fine, the leg broke above the replacement and was treated just as a normal leg fracture.
Your midnight feast stair episode will have given your knee and yourself a bit of a shock - just try to take things easy and let the knee calm down again. It may set you back a couple of days in terms of stiffness, but in the grand scheme of TKR recovery - 48 hours is not a lot!!

Daughter and I are very close - and thankfully we have always enjoyed each others company. My husband travelled a great deal while she was growing up, so it has always been the pair of us - which is lovely. On my side of our family we are all girls and only children - so no experience of having sons/boys at all!!
Last night we nattered (is that another word for you? ie chatted) for so long we only had time to watch one Glee episode - but as we are eking them out, we didn't mind, AND it was a Christmas one which is always good. We laughed that Sue S always becomes nice at Xmas, Artie has a dream sequence in each series where he can walk, and Blaine appears to have no relatives whatsoever!! Daughter finds it disconcerting though, that Finn bears an uncanny likeness to one of her long-term exes!

Have to go as it is time to make coffee for the painters - if I keep them happy hopefully they will do an excellent job.

Talk later

Just popping in to drop off this: ((hugs)). I am so far behind I have no clue what's going on in anyone's world right now but just wanted to wish you a happy and pain free weekend!
:bath: Mars Bars all around!

xoxoxo

Hi @dogwheels I love the poster it so makes sense. I feel like I've lost my sparkle (my glow stick), so maybe it'll shine again soon.

I love what you wrote about you and your daughter. It's so wonderful to have that relationship with her. I'm like that with both of my daughters. I love my son too and I don't see enough of him because he lives in another town.

If you give the painters coffee and cake p, maybe the infamous lemon drizzle mmmmmmm yummy, it'll be perfect!

I hope that you are okay Chris. Take care

Love Ann xx x

Hello @DogLoverx3 - thank you so much for the hugs and 'Motion' picture of Bathtime :heehee:. I hope that your new house is beginning to feel like home, that the doggies are behaving themselves and that the men in your life are looking after you well. I doubt if you know whether you are coming or going at the moment. As if your life isn't busy enough, I am so sorry that the knee is being a pain in the proverbial. Not too long now and hopefully you will have some answers and some solutions.
Yet again I am home alone for the weekend, overseeing the exterior of our house being painted, while my other half has fun sailing. As soon as this **** knee improves it will be my turn for fun, and he needs to be prepared that it will be expensive!!
Enjoy your happy hour, have a good weekend, take care and talk soon

Crossing my fingers that your time for fun comes soon!!

Glad you did ok last night - I wouldn't have been too happy to have windows open and ladders leading in, either. Enjoy your day with Mario and Luigi :heehee:

Cheers @@dogwheels, enjoy your wine. I did exactly the same exercise as you, swapping over summer and winter clothes, luckily I did it last week when I didn't have a little 'helper' following me everywhere. I did just iron everything, but I did sit whilst I was doing it, so not too bad.
Grandson has eventually gone home so caravan is now packed, I'm off for a bath before I'm given another job to do. Luckily I never did catch his cold (oh dear, that's done it now!)
I will try to keep,in touch, but I know that some of the places we intend to visit are fairly remote, and the campsites charge a small fortune for wifi connection. Keep up the progress you are making now, hopefully you will be visiting your other home very soon. Lots of hugs, Ellejay xx

@dogwheels thanks for your very kind words. Yes, this is a set back and I am becoming okay with it. Nattered now that is a new one for me. I love all these words, but sometimes, I feel silly asking what they mean. I was amazed at how you actually could sleep with windows open. I would have been in a tizzy given that situation. Sounds like it went okay though. (this post just hopped away, I was afraid I had lost it.....why does that happen?) I feel much better this afternoon. I have been doing acupuncture and I think it is helping my emotions too, maybe placebo, but I'll take it. So what color is your house/trim? I love color (for you all colour, right?) I love the differences in color shades, intensities, saturation. Have you heard of your own Annie Sloan chalk paint? I have painted many furniture items with her paint. Very fun to play. (not a pastime now, mind you, but maybe. soon...I hope) many bunny trails on this site, nice distraction from pain. I am so happy that you and your daughter had that time together. Take very good care.

oh, I love the saying you posted. I enjoy sayings that strike a note where we all can relate to it. thank you.

Hello @hopefaith - I am glad that the acupuncture did good for you - and hope that your knee is settling a little bit now.
The good weather here for the last few days mean that the Mario Bros are making good progress with my painting!! Husband returned last night so we had all the windows open without a worry!
You asked about the colour of our house - it is boring in the extreme - white with natural brick work and a wood stain front door. We live in a Conservation area - I am sure that you must have something similar in the US. Where we live there are lots of old Victorian and Edwardian houses and the area has quite a lot of historical interest and so it is deemed a Conservation area. This means that close attention is paid to keeping any changes/developments in keeping with the surroundings. We had the house built for us about 15 years ago, but our architect had to adhere very closely to the rules - eg our windows are not sash windows but have to look as though they are from the outside. The house has to be painted white. I have pretty patterned and curled lead flashing under the windows. I cannot prune any trees in the garden without permission ..... you get the idea.

Yes, I know all about Annie Sloane paint although I have not used it - in fact I was discussing it with @cafecortado just a short while ago. My daughter has a little 19th century cottage right by the River Thames, she has used a lot of the Farrow and Ball paints which are quite authentic historical colours - I think you have F & B in US? Her outside walls are a pale buttery colour with a deep aubergine front door. Looks lovely. My other house at the seaside is also in a Conservation area and yet again has very strict covenants concerning decoration, so the house is white yet again (boring!). We did have a beautiful deep blue door but have replaced it with a wooden one - but I actually like it much more!

Well after this rather weird conversation about house paint, I have stuff to do, so will talk later.

Take care and look after that knee

Hi Chris

Hope that you are okay? Thank for your post. I do so love to read them x x x x x

Hi all - just a quickie!
Yesterday was a good day - the knee was behaving and even after it's escapades on Friday, climbing up steps and clambering over furniture to open windows for my painters, it felt good. It withstood me standing about for ages on Saturday while I changed over all my winter clothes and summer clothes and stored them away. So yesterday, fired with success I shoved the chair right up near my bike wheels and was still able to pedal, slowly at first but it soon got better. A bit later on I was about to come downstairs and had that funny feeling where you are about to descend properly and stop yourself short and think, 'Ooops No!' I was told this was a sign that you would soon be able to do it - so mind over matter, I gave it a go. A tad uncomfortable but we were back in business! Of course after these efforts I woke very stiff this morning - no probs with the knee, it's just my hamstrings and calf that are a bit tight and achy. Off to physio - no measuring ROM - just lots of massage. Yes!
So ....... I am now starting to wind down with physio. Gosh they will miss me, I think I have been their best customer this year! Physio is delighted and says that we will space the next few appointments out, then once I am OK with the stairs, she cannot help me further. Strength will come gradually, but that is something only I can build. Swelling and stiffness will continue, but that's to be expected and again it will improve with time. She says the knee is fast looking like a normal knee. I now have a patchy scar - completely healed and invisible in places, still a bit purply in others, but it improves on a daily basis.
The rest of my session was spent discussing interesting stuff like wearing heeled shoes again, my new clothes steamer that is arriving tomorrow, clothes for weddings and jumping on and off boats.
Back home now - euccchhh everywhere smells of paint! I've volunteered to go for a walk to post letters just to get away from the smell.
Hope everyone is OK. Talk later

Fantastic news Chris!! Stairs and the possibility of heeled shoes, I'm so impressed, go you!!

BTW, what did she say about the heels? I can't fathom the rest of my adulthood without heels...

Hi @TexasTee - the abridged version is:
1. comfortable, well fitting flats
2. well fitting - slight wedge (Sperry's??)
3. higher wedge or small heel (the squatter the heel the better, not stilettos)
4. slightly higher wide heel or very low thin heel.
Then increasing as you are able or feel the need, with the proviso that comfort over vanity should always prevail with a big old safety warning thrown in. Don't do it if it hurts or you don't feel safe. There is more to life than vertiginous heels (really??) and better a lower heel than tripping a*se over t*t or more politely base over apex.

Hope your day is going well

Oooh - how pretty @TexasTee - I'd never have thought of pinecone mulch. The other half is the self-nominated garden expert and I am not sure he would go along with that - too many flowerbeds! Also I'd be doing my gardeners out of business!
I was getting ideas on Pinterest when I got to the entry which said not to forget to bake your pinecones to get rid of seeds and bugs. I refuse to put any potential insect carrying pine cone in my oven. Perhaps if I put them in a bag and sprayed inside with insect killer and knotted the bag it would work???? I particularly liked these ...... really easy and effective.
