Normally the electric one is fine, you have total control, 3 power levels in which the electric motor just cuts in and assists with the peddling, and then electric only when I don't have to peddle at all. It could be argued that if I use this last mode what am I worried about, but I feel that I need to be in control of my bicycle, not the other way round. I bought it a couple of years ago when it was obvious my knees were deteriorating, so that we could still cycle when we travel. I don't like the busy local roads, just old railway tracks, canal tow paths and very quiet country lanes.
Thank you for your good wishes for my daughter, we have all our fingers crossed for her. The presentation isn't until Friday, I thought it was earlier in the week. She is off on her riding trip to Norfolk today and will return on Tuesday. It's my Dad's 91st birthday on Thursday so my whole family will be taking him out to lunch, so hopefully she won't be stressing too much with so many other things going on.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend xxx

Ooh @Ellejay, I've always fancied an electric bike so that I could go out with my hubby. Before my TKR's it was a no go idea, but now...Mmmmm....do you recommend them? What type do you have? Xx

Hi @dogwheels I hope that you're ok? How's the crafting coming on? I love seeing the pics of your creations. It's so lovely to see x x x

Hi all - just guess what my husband brought back for me from his French sailing trip ???? ...... a streaming cold. Cheers and many thanks my loved one. He says he had it while he was away, but didn't mention it.
I don't feel bad just a bit warm, with a slightly sore throat and I keep sneezing. Still it is the first I have had for ages - stayed clear all the way to Christmas and right up until now, which isn't bad. Laughable thing is that I re-started taking Berocca a couple of days ago, as my husband asked if I was going to order some more. Now I know why he was so keen!!
Well I have spent all morning cutting and pasting my chairs. They are now both completely covered and next step is to cut and position all the bits that I want to look prominent. They don't look great at the moment, but will shortly start to take shape. The Vogue magazine is a real trip down memory lane advert wise - so many products that I remember .........
I have had a lovely lazy afternoon in the bathroom - legs, shower, hair, blowdry and now pedi and mani. I have a full morning at the hospital tomorrow: Xray; appointment with OS and then my weekly physio. I have to be there early so have already sorted out an outfit that provides easy access ie a dress, so I don't have to take trousers on and off x 3!
Up even earlier in the morning as we are having the outside of the house painted, starting tomorrow for 2/3 weeks depending on the weather ..... groan! They are arriving at 8 and start by putting scaffolding up to our bedroom window - I don't want to be prancing around in next to nothing with painters staring in the windows, so have got everything sorted and ready to go.
Daughter is coming round for supper soon, so wont be around this evening. Probably check in just before bed.
Take care all and enjoy the remains of the weekend.

Oh @dogwheels I'm so sorry you've got a cold. WhT a shame especially when you're going to be so busy tomorrow. Will you let me know how your get on with the OS please? I can't wait to see the Vogue chair as I'm sure that's the magazine you told me about from the year of my birth. Will you be posting any pics? Xx I hope that you have had a lovely supper and evening with your daughter. These moments and quality time are so treasured.

I do feel for you with the painters. Let's hope that the promised hear wave for the middle of the week comes early! The better the weather the quicker they're out of your hair x x x

Hope to catch up with you later x x x x

Hi Nana moon 27 - what an evening! Everything went well and truly pear-shaped.
First off, my daughter's house is on a private 'road' - literally just a bit of no through road in front of the row of 5 cottages, that's the remnant of the original old road. There's lots of parking adjacent so neighbours only use the bit outside for unloading. As hers is the last house she parked outside as her bf was there at the weekend with his car in the parking area. Her imbecilic neighbours for some reason unknown, parked behind her and then would not open their door when she knocked for them to move . Whether they were having an afternoon of passion or what, I have no idea. She couldn't get her car out to drive over and as she has to be up very early in the morning for work, had to stay and keep knocking at intervals until they would answer the door. Therefore dinner was postponed and she's coming over tomorrow instead.
Then the company who are supposed to be starting painting tomorrow rang to say that the man due to start work on our house hasn't returned from his holiday! They will not start tomorrow and will keep us posted.
All in all, a bit of shambles. Never mind though.
Hope that you have had a good evening. Sorry that you have to go to a funeral tomorrow - never a pleasant duty, but glad you found something nice in your wardrobe that fits you well. It saved you having to buy something just for that. Vast amounts of my wardrobe are black clothes - so I never have any problem on that score.
I will post some piccies of the chairs when I am a bit further along - currently they are very much a work in progress.
Took some cold and flu tablets and feel much better - just keep sneezing. I think its a 48hours thing so hopefully will soon be feeling OK.
Will post an update on here tomorrow re OS consultation. Fingers X'd that Xray and all is OK.
Must go to sleep now

Hi @dogwheels, how very generous of your hubby to bring you such a thoughtful present back (not!) I'll be thinking of you with your appointment, please let us know how it goes. X

Hi @dogwheels my goodness me, what an evening you've had! I hope all goes well for you tomorrow. What time is your appointment?

As regards your daughters neighbours I think they were being silly. Some people enjoy the power of making other people suffer with parking. My sil had a similar problem and her neighbour used to block her in deliberately and not answer the door either. In the end my sil left her car in the road until she was sure her neighbour was parked up for the night! She moved eventually and wasn't sorry to see the back of the place tbh!

Sleep well Chris x

Hi @Nana moon 27 - they say things happen in 3's, don't they??
First daughters car blocked in, then painters not coming, now phone call saying physio is sick. Just waiting for my X-ray any minute now, and then OS ..... Will let you know how it goes.

Oh @dogwheels, I'm sorry you didn't get your meal with your daughter, how inconsiderate of her neighbours, I'd like to think that they would buy her a bouquet to apologise, but the fact they did it in the first place means they won't think of such a gesture.
Good luck with the X ray today, sorry you missed your physio, I have another massage session tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to it, so I would be upset if it was cancelled.
I hope your cold isn't too bad, and doesn't interfere with daily life too much, and also that the house painters start soon. I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or not, but if this promised heat wave appears you may be treated to the sight of The British Workman in all his glory, 'sans shirt', :ice:.

I've posted this on my thread, but I just had to post it here as well.............

I HAVE DONE IT!!!!!!! IVE JUST RIDDEN MY BIKE
I
am so pleased with myself, as you know it's been my goal since the op, it's taken 4 months but I've got there. (I've now got to alter my signature). I've had so much support from everyone on here, I am so grateful, so I just had to share my good news.

That was so very sweet of your husband to want to share his cold with you! He's a true giver, huh? :heehee:

I am hoping your appointment with your OS goes well and that your x-rays look beautiful! Especially with just having shaved and having your toes done. :thumb:

Sorry about your daughter's stupid neighbor, but that's nice that she will be over tonight to help celebrate your good report from this morning!

I've missed catching up with everyone. As it's 4am here and I am still wide awake, I figured now was a good time.

Congrats Ellejay! So happy for you!!

Hi all - as promised the OS update .......
  • He is delighted with X-ray and placement - says it is perfect and could not be any better or improved upon. It appears to be very much part of me now and a part of 'my knee' rather than a prosthetic
  • He says my walking and walking pattern is superb
  • He did not dwell on the setback I had, but is very pleased and content all is bending well again
  • He was not willing to totally rule out a reoccurrence of a setback, but said that as the swelling goes down and the internal tissues heal it is less likely, and providing recovery is built upon slowly, the risk is minimal
  • Stiffness and disturbed sleep he said is to be expected and will ease over time. All my multiple and weird aches are commonplace and again will ease over time
  • Puffiness on the inside portion of knee was not a surprise as evidently most of the invasive work is done in that area - heat on the outside is due to the greater blood supply in that area
  • I need to build on bend, strength, stamina, and getting back to normal ..... yet again over time. My ROM will improve during this time, although he is happy with my +110 degrees. Physio will help to pace this, but he stressed those b***y 3 words again 'Slowly and gently'. Soon I can start to space physio further apart.
  • He says true recovery will take a year.
  • He signed me off, but is happy to see me again in several months should I wish. This is wholly to do with my insurance claims, rather than him. He said I would always be his patient and therefore he was always happy to see me.

Didn't get my physio today as she is off sick, so giving this week a miss. Boo! No massage.
For those sufficiently interested in these things, my knee was cemented in, and is a 'MRK medial rotation knee'. Just looked it up and it is really interesting.

Off to the Garden Centre - talk later

That all sounds really positive, congratulations and well done. I know that you had that awful setback, but it actually sounds as if you and I are now at much the same stage, and my op was a couple of weeks before yours. So, in fact, the setback hasn't been that bad after all, we've both got 'there' wherever 'there' is, in our own way, still counting our blessings as they arrive, still seeing the physio, still hurting at night, but..... much better than we were before. Life is good now, and we have the summer ahead to enjoy it. xxx Ellejay

Well that sounds, and looks, like very good news @dogwheels. Success! Onward and forward with every step. I wonder if I'll remember to ask consultant what sort my knee is when I see him in November, one year post op! Probably not. My knees had a very slight setback this week, with my having overdone the 'rough walking' at the weekend, also being scrunched up and very uncomfortable on the rear seat of a coach for 4.5 hours! I went for the back seat in order to stretch out, but very sweet fellow travellers thought they would keep me company, so much of the back seat was not available! Heyho! Kindness or comfort? I went for kindness and so couldn't also experience comfort! I'm resting up ALL of today, slept in till 12noon and slouching around all afternoon!

I'm glad to hear that the Cook's diet is seeing results. I was doing well on M&S, but that too took a setback over the weekend with good food and alcohol! Have restarted and hope to see results!

I ought to have posted that on my thread, so excuse me trespassing on your recovery thread! Your massage sounds a very real boost. Good for you. Is that because you have insurance? I don't think it's on offer with plain NHS.

Keep improving, your good news inspires others!

Hi @dogwheels what a fantastic report. I am so pleased for you, really, really pleased! You've done ever so well with your setback, you've overcome it and got back on track.

I hope you have a marvellous time at the garden centre, you know how I love the garden and plants. I look forward to seeing what you've bought.

Love Nana moon 27 xxxx

Hi @Nana moon 27 - yes, I am pleased by what he said, and now everyone has had a good look at my metal bits!! I think my OS must shop locally as the implant is from a company in Leatherhead, just a short bus ride from me. Well I am all for using British manufactured parts! When I got home, husband celebrated by removing the 'geriatric chair' from our TV lounge and putting it in the Breakfast Room out of my line of vision. It is destined to go upstairs in daughters old room with one of my patchwork quilts over it to disguise its brown, Dralon, disgustingness!! He rather sweetly announced that he's moved it as I was entering a new chapter, but he wanted me to ............... wait for it ........................ take it SLOWLY AND GENTLY!!!!!
Garden Centre was nice - the porch area at the front of the house where we had all the planters in Spring, well all those planters were removed as and when the flowers died. We went and bought new plants to plant in more planters (we have a lot!!) and I chose a selection of purples and white. Some trailing, some bushy and some cottage garden to go there. I think it will look pretty. We also bought some lavenders. At the front of the house we have 5 troughs of lavender. The lavender in one particular trough always goes brown and dies - my guess is that a cat or fox has selected it as his own personal toilet and gives it a daily spray. Euchhh..... We are forever replacing it.

Sorry that the funeral was so sad - it was so spooky about the poor mans wife and how he died. That's almost identical to what happened to my Mum's Dad. Went to the hospital for visiting time, they rang the bell (as they did then) he stood up and dropped dead. Very sad.

Well I will love you and leave you. Hope your knee isn't protesting from standing about today. Not long and you will find out what your OS's plans are to get you feeling fit and well and your knee back on track.

Talk later

Awesome report Dogwheels! Huh, my 'bits' look totally different and my knee cap (my own) sits WAY in front of my implant (so shows the only set of x-rays I have from week 1). So glad you got such a good report and that your OS was so nice!

It's lovely to read such a good report from your OS visit, @dogwheels !

"Slow and gentle" - It sounds as if your OS could be a closet BoneSmartie! :heehee:
I know those words are frustrating, but that approach really does work.
