Ooooops @DogLoverx3 - Crafting can be challenging at times !!:heehee:

I am so sorry that your efforts were not as successful as you had hoped. Metal is an utter 'female dog' to work with, and like you discovered it is often hard for the paint to grip. I have never done a glossy or shiny finish on metal - but did OK with a metal fire surround using that gritty stone effect spray paint. However it was very much a case of it looking disgustingly patchy at first, but persevering with lots of light coats, until the layers built up and I got decent coverage. My usual trick is to find something close in colour that will grip well and do a first coat in that - it usually doesn't matter too much what sort of finish it is. Then coats of the 'proper' finish will have something to bind to.

My husband is ridiculously clever, very good with mechanical stuff, but artistic and crafty he is not. My daughter wanted to replace her door furniture, and the closest fitting brass letter box was fractionally too big. His answer was brute force and he successfully bashed and hammered the new one into place, however he slightly split the wood of the old front door. Out came the super glue, but he managed to glue himself to the letter box. When I had finished laughing uncontrollably, I managed to slice him off the door.

I am so with you on brass though! My Mum had some sort of brass fetish - so I grew up in a house of dark cottage style furniture, chintz and more brass ornaments than you could swing a brass monkey at. To say she liked the 'country look' would be a massive understatement. Little wonder that both my houses are somewhat 'minimalist'.

Well I hope you enjoy your weekend - whatever you are up to. Daughter is coming over this afternoon to remove a few more of the dregs of her things ....... I am really hoping that the life-size cardboard stand-up naked Morrissey will be leaving soon. Love his music, but I have had enough of 'that charming man' .

LOL @DogLoverx3 - that one thing I did learn early in my DIY career - doing it "easy and fast" always take longer and are much messier than doing it right. Pity...every now and again I try something like you did and recall why I don't do that. Hope you persevere! Brass is the work of the devil...my new husbands house was lousy with it as it was a project from the 80s but I'm nearly done with the switch to nickle...thank goodness!

@dogwheels - bummer about your box, I totally agree they either need to produce it for you or pay for it!

Oh @DogLoverx3 I had to smile at your attempt with the painting. I avoid stuff like that as I am not great and have no patience either. I am not allowed to use superglue because I'm notoriously clumsy with it. I get it every where and stick myself invariably like your husband @dogwheels! Nowadays my husband insists on doing super gluing!

I did start knitting squares for my sis in law, I did four and got bored. I started my tapestry and I was all fired up to do it and again it's been abandoned. I would love to be able to do crafty things but I have no patience these days whatsoever. Prob the meds lol x x x

Have a lovely time with your daughter. I have to agree with you about wanting to see the back of naked Morrissey yuk! Xxxx

Catch you later

Love Nana moon 27 xoxoxoxox

Hi All

Yes, @TexasTee I will certainly be saying something about the 'missing' box and making an attempt to get some compensation (although I am not holding my breath). I could understand if one of the smaller items had gone astray - as they would be quite 'pocketable' for anyone given to a bit of shoplifting. With all due respect the town is a popular tourist venue and regularly frequented with foreign language students whose behaviour is often somewhat unruly, to say the least. But this box was big. No way could you fit it in a shopping bag - you would be hard pushed to tuck it under your arm.
I am even more cross now, as husband has returned home with the one unsold item. The idiot staff left their price label on it and their mark up was over 100%!!
I may have to write off the beautiful big box as collateral damage - they are so disorganised I have little hope of compensation. Perhaps I will be surprised and they will do the decent thing - or make a token payment? I am now going to craft a suitably worded email ....
At least I have severed my links with them, but now need to find somewhere else to sell my things.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone.

Hi Chris. I'm really annoyed and sorry about what has happened to your craft and 100% mark up, omg! It annoys me the fact that you spent all that time creating it for it to be blooming nicked!

I'm glad you're getting your study sorted and yes it is therapeutic to sort and organise things. Take care love Ann x x x

How about your own virtual storefront on Ebay? Now you know how much you can charge so you could charge that price but include shipping within the UK and still be ahead of the game.

Or Etsy, I love Etsy! Very annoying for you Chris, your talents deserved better care! Xx

@DogLoverx3 you and I are kindred spirits. Like you, I want to believe I can be creative but once the ideas get out of head and try to go to my hands it all goes wrong! I once tried a painting lesson. I told the teacher I couldn't paint, she replied that everyone could paint and she hadn't had a failure yet......yep you guessed it, by the end of the lesson she was inhaling Valium and still shakes involuntary and starts mumbling whenever she sees me! X

@dogwheels, the story about your husband and the glue had me laughing out loud! You need to write a book, you're a natural storyteller and I think you have a lot to say ;) X

@cafecortado (what does your name mean, btw) yes, we probably are kindred spirits. If I took the time to be precise and patient, I might do better, but that's just not my style. :heehee: It's the same reason I prefer cooking over baking. I don't like having to be precise, measure things and 'follow the rules'. Good suggestion for @dogwheels ! I was thinking Etsy too but wasn't sure if was popular over the pond or not.

:capn::kayak:hahahaha, I love these emoticons for your hubby Chris! I swear we could be best friends! All this talk of cocktails and sailing! I don't really love shopping though, so I hope you'll forgive me that. ;-) Glad you're getting your study in order. Although I don't love organizing/cleaning, it is a great sense of accomplishment when done!

Hi @TexasTee @cafecortado @DogLoverx3 - thank you all so much for your help and encouragement as my marketing team! I have sold some of my things on eBay before, but not the decoupage. (Shut your ears @DogLoverx3 - I do all sorts of craft!!) The biggest problem is the cost of postage on large items, buyers really baulk at it - plus I get the distinct impression that people only go on there who want something for nothing. I did set up a store front for Etsy, I agree its brilliant, but that's as far as I got - it is much more a US thing and there's the postage to consider yet again. We do have a sort of 'poor mans' Etsy in the UK called Folksy - I may give them a try. I think I need to do some research and find someone with a popular vintage-style blog and send them a freebie - perhaps I could score a bit of free advertising that way? I wouldn't mind, I don't make the things for £'s, I make them cos I enjoy doing it and know that they are original. Its just that once they are done I can't keep them all. I do my bit by donating a couple of patchwork quilts to charity auctions every year - I've just got to find the right spot to sell these particular creations.

Ha ha - I am glad that you enjoyed the glue story, at my husband's expense @cafecortado. I certainly 'have a lot to say' - my wordy and l-e-n-g-t-h-y posts bear witness to that! I have spent my whole life always seeming to see the comical in everything. Funny you should say about a book - when I lived in Indonesia, I used to send an open letter every few months to all my UK friends. Loads of them kept the letters and wanted me to get them made into a book. I found my set of letters a while back and they do make a fascinating read - culture shock, expat life and an account of the 'troubles' there and our ultimate last minute evacuation.

I love the sailing emoticon @DogLoverx3 - and how did you know he was a white-water canoeist in his youth? How I ended up with such an outdoorsy type is quite unfathomable!
You're right - I have no doubts that we would be great friends, but hey, we are already! Heaven help us if you were here and we met up with my brilliant chum who is Italian/South African. We were both living in Abu Dhabi at the same time and had such fun there, and ended up with quite a reputation  Just before my TKR she moved house and now lives only about 10 miles away. She is loud, noisy and extrovert ................ hmmmm wonder why we get on so well??

Well here endeth today's epistle from Dogwheels - take care all and talk soon

Look what I found for you, my crafty friend! New fun things to make!
[Bonesmart.org] Oh Baby feel the (k)need in me - the sequel ..

Oh yes!

"Goodbye, Bill!
Goodbye, Ben!
Bill and Ben,
Bill and Ben,
Flowerpot men."

Now, have you got anyone who looks like Zebedee, from the Magic Roundabout? Or Dougal?
Or Dylan?
My niece called her son Dylan and both my brother (her father) and I immediately thought of Dylan, the hippy rabbit from Magic Roundabout. LOL.

These are the Flower Pot men and Little Weed in the middle. They were part of the Watch with Mother' programmes. They used to be shown in the daytime, in the 1960's. This was a huge part of our childhood programmes along with 'the Wooden Tops' I adored their Spotty dog! Another of this series was Andy Pandy, who was accompanied by Looby Loo and Teddy! I cannot recall much more as it is so late here now and I'm a bit tired.

I wanted our friends over the pond to know what @dogwheels was referring to in @DogLoverx3's pics she posted earlier. I believe there are clips of these programmes on YouTube. I hope this helps all x x x

Oh well recalled @Celle happy innocent days. The only blot on the horizon was the arrival of Captain Pugwash. Oh dear, I was so innocent and it wasn't until many, many, years later, that my husband explained their names were double entendres! Oh dear, that was my bubble burst x I know what you mean exactly about the happy rabbit! Yeah man um like um! He was hilarious x

I also loved Fireball XL5 I was obsessed with Zoony the alien and the robot but I cannot recall it's name! X I used to sing and dance as small as I was to the fantastic theme tune...I wish I was a spaceman, the greatest guy alive... Oh bliss x

Oh, such memories, I used to love the Flowerpot Men. Another one was Rag, Tag & Bobtail - a rabbit, a hedgehog I think, and I can't remember the other one.

Oh yes @Ellejay - 'Rag Tag and Bobtail' was my absolute favourite, and I loved the Woodentops:
'........... Daddy Woodentop, Sam who worked in the garden, Willie and Jennie the Twins, Mummy Woodentop and the Ba-by and the Biggest Spotty Dog you ever did see, and they all lived together in a little house in the country'.
I was always amazed that 1000's of children didn't grow up with weird speech after watching 'The Flowerpot Men'. When you consider how children all picked up the Teletubbies 'Eh-oh' - I think it is a wonder we didn't all go round saying 'Flobberlop'!
Do you remember 'Picture Book' and 'Ivor the Engine'?
I expect you all 'Listened with Mother' too?
Last night my husband was watching a TV programme on the Crusades. I annoyed him by singing (and actually remembering the words) to 'Richard the Lionheart' - anyone remember that one?

Ha ha Nana Moon, I loved Captain Pugwash - I was 40 before someone mentioned the rather rude names of some of the characters (Master Bates; Seaman Staines and Roger the Cabin Boy). Hate to disappoint but this was an urban myth arising from a newspaper article, the real characters were more innocently, Master Mates, Seaman Baines and Tom the Cabin Boy.

Off to physio this morning, talk later.

YES I remember all those! I loved the flower pot men, Andy Pandy and all of them really.
@dogwheels, you really do have a book in you, you're such a natural writer and have us all in stitches with your stories. I love reading your posts. And the more I watch French Collection, the more I think I would love to see you on there, you'd be fab at it....Happy to be your literary/booking agent anytime ;) I loved the washi tape bird houses, I've heard of it before but never used it, I like the idea of using it to neaten off the decoupage items. I'm watching a lot of Annie Sloan on you tube at the moment, the trouble is, it makes me think I can do it which as @DogLoverx3 and I know, it's not that simple! Ok got to dash, I have a massage in 30 minutes and I'm still in bed! Oops! Have a good day love Bernie xx
