TKR New to the world of TKR

I have read the articles and I am so glad they are here as a reference. thanks again

Went to PT today. The therapist says I am a model patient, however, I have some IT band issues causing me pain. Does anyone have any easy exercises for this? I read some of the posts but I was not able to get into those positions. Thanks everyone.
Any suggestions out there on how you keep your leg from getting stiff during the night?

I suggest you go back and read my post to you - the one where I replied to your answers. At 4½ weeks that's not IT issues but simple post op pain.Have you increased your meds as suggested? And cut down on the exercises?

I am now taking pain meds more often. I am taking my tramodol every 8 and Tylenol in between to give me something every four. I feel like if I am not exercising I am just lying around doing nothing which makes me antsy. my therapist told me to rest for a couple of days so I am taking your advice ice elevation rest. I have read the articles. it seems at almost five weeks people were doing much more than me.

It's hard not to compare, but remember that tkr is an "individual sport." :) You will recover at your body's own pace.

I'm also taking Tramadol and Tylenol. If your medication schedule works for you, that's great. If not, try taking them both together every six hours.

Hi @jbucks I thought that I would pop across to your thread to see how you are getting on. Seriously well done you. Everything you are feeling is normal and WTG with that rom so early in your recovery. It's brilliant. Your PT sounds lovely!

A word of advice that I can give to you is please, please, please don't compare yourself to anyone else. That was my single biggest mistake! As @kneeper quite rightly says it is an "individual sport' (I love that phrase so much! Nice one Kneeper)! My recovery and also that of my friend on here @DogLoverx3 has been quite different and slower than some. However, we have come to realise that this is an individual recovery because we are all very
unique. This is why recovery can vary from one person to another. I love hearing about good recoveries, it makes me glad to my heart that they are not going through what myself and some others are. I have not been to work or driven since I had my knee replacement. However, I have a lovely positive hope now. I am going into hospital on June 19th for day surgery. The surgeon is going to drain my knee under local anaesthetic and do cortisone injections. He reckons it will work. My private physio said I will feel amazing a day or two after. I cannot wait. I actually feel so excited that something is going to be done so I can return to my normal life!

Josephine is always on hand to give you practical, no nonsense, very valuable advice. She is amazing! I just so love her humour! She has oodles of knowledge and experience in this field x

Just be careful around the scar when shaving! Try to avoid touching the scar with the razor !

Take heed of the lovely reading material you have been given, it helps so much. The article are nice and short, very concise and easy to read (thankfully)!!!

I have to say I have really enjoyed reading the posts on your thread, thank you x if you have a read fro page 1-20 on my thread before it took off and morphed into Nana moons coffee, stop and chat shop. You'll read how differently my recovery is to yours.

Please take care
Love Nana moon 27 x x x

referee54 are you a tribe fan. we usually take a trip up every year but not sure I can sit that long. maybe at about 20 weeks it might be better

thanks nana moon I really appreciate the words of wisdom. it am trying to remain upbeat and am looking at the small achievements. thanks to josephine who does have great wisdom, I am sure she has seen and heard everything.

I had a great day today my husband planted flowers and I admired them from the porch. thanks so much everyone for the continued support. jeannie

Hi @jbucks a little word of advice. You see how I have tagged your username @jbucks,you need to do that in front of the user name you wish to chat to e.g @referee54 or @Nana moon 27. As you begin to type the name the proper spelling and appearance will pop up and all you need do is press it or copy it. I noticed you had left a message for referee54 but he won't know that there is a message for him unless you put the @ in front x x just go back to yr previous message and try putting the @ in if you want to try it x

I only found your message to me because I thought I'd see how you were doing and spotted you had tried to send me a message. You can come and post onto my thread anytime you want x x x

Hey, as you like flowers I've posted some pics on my thread of some flowers in my back garden. (Page 134). At the very bottom of this post y will see something saying woohoo I'm starting to feel better just click on that and it will take you straight to my thread. I'm currently on page hundred and something!

I just read your thread. Your comment about sitting around doing "nothing" is wrong. When you are doing nothing you are healing. You don't see it but in the inside your body is hard at work. That's why we get tired so easily. Healing is hard work. So, sit back and let it happen.

Retread my post. It seems harsh. Sorry. I am 8 wks out from a LTKR. I was my hardest lesson- waiting. I have RA so I heal a bit slower and won't walk well until I have my other knee done and healed. So I had to learn to fill my time. Relax and think of the inside magic going on. :- )

I am a big-time tribe fan, Browns, and OSU fan, too

You will be amazed at what you will be able to do---and do it pain-free, when you are all fully recovered/

It's hard not to compare, but remember that tkr is an "individual sport." :) You will recover at your body's own pace.

If you compare yourself to others, you are setting yourself up to become depressed, as somebody will always recover faster than you---trust me, I know, as my recovery was very slow.

Just focus on yourself---and the day. Do not look ahead, just take care of what you need to do for a day.

Eventually, those days will add up to a full recovery.

Thank you, I'm OS glad you liked it x you have figured out the tagging just fine, well done to you x x x it is a lot of work but I so a little each day x x

@waitingtogarden it was not harsh, more of a reality check. I have been on the go at my job for almost 30 years. 7a-7pm. even through my two pregnancies I was able to return back to work early. HOwever, this has been an eye opening experience for me, and my dependence on others to do for me. I have always been the one to organize and put a party together on the spur of a moment, doing everything myself. But now it seems much different.
I am very hopeful that within 6 months as I continue to talk here with all of you, my progression continues to improve and I like my new knee. For right now it is just a waiting game. thanks to all of you i feel very supported

@Nana moon 27 I cannot believe you do all of that yourself. that is fantastic. It is beautiful and looks so peaceful. I am sure it is a great place to rest and read. Love it.

Having a bad couple of days. My 5th week and I am kinda stagnant. I have been having problems with IT band. My PT guy JT is wonderful, he says too much pain is not good. He is having me do some stretches and is taking it slow while working on my IT band around the area of my new knee. He says it is common problem and he sees it in almost every other patient. I love this guy.
I told him I dont know how I will get back to working in just 7 weeks, but he said I should be fine. My flexion is not moving but I continue to try to be positive.

Oh well back to the ice, rest and elevation...

Five weeks is still early. You have a lot of improving time ahead of you.
