Glad to hear you are on track!
Bonesmart saved me a lot of pain and worry through 2 hips now. I reread all their recommendations as it’s a lot to take in and may apply to different stages of my recovery. I still go back to see how I’m doing. Good read when you can’t sleep - it sets my mind at ease.

Just one of those things. Went for a 15 minute walk today with just one crutch, chatted with the postman, one of the neighbours, sun was shining and really appreciating no limping a bit of independence and bang.....met someone who said what happened to you...hip replacement 3 1/2 weeks ago I stupidly replied and of course not only had they had one done but knew of several others, Yep all of them had ditched the crutches after a couple of weeks, were out playing golf at the top of Everest or chasing wildebeest on the Serengeti, That followed a phone call from a so called friend yesterday saying that his wife had a THR last year ditched all walking aids after one week, no pain meds after three days, no numbness, no cramps, no bruising followed by asking why was it taking so long for my recovery. Well this is for those people and we all are going to meet them at some stage:-

Just one week into recovery
I ran the mile in 3 minutes 33
Rode my bike in the Tour de France
Parachuted from a plane and learned to dance
Went south face up the Eiger
Walked to Pakistan along the Khyber
Bench pressed nearly 300 pounds
Fought with Mike Tyson 15 rounds
Up to the Rockies and wrestled with a bear
Even had time to dye my hair
Bend much more than 90 degrees
Recovery is such a breeze
Helped my neighbour push their car
Well tractor really but not that far
Went and helped with barn raising
Bungee jumping I am craving
Tomorrow I am in a triathlon
The day after that its a marathon

But if you see me in the street
Be careful what you do with your feet
Just make sure to tread carefully
Don't tread in the bulldust that follows me

@wcgirl Many thanks for your message and it is just so reassuring to know that one is not the only neurotic...what was that pain...why is that happening...is that right...am I doing this right...still not sure how you do 2 hips , although need to get it done...in my 4th week of recovery, next week, I am considering walking from Hertfordshire in England to Cape Cod, should only take a couple of days if I use both crutches, so will pop in and say hi

:rotfl: Hilarious....LOVE IT!
We all did the - What was that? Is this right? Why does that feel like it does? Should I be doing this, or that?
Just think of the phone calls we save our OS by reading here. I guess I should speak for myself but I know I would have called with questions at least a few times if not for BoneSmart. You no more than pose a question here and get numerous replies. And the comaraderie, care and laughs with new friends is priceless.

Not sure if you noticed this in the Community Area under Social Room but your post needs to be added, I'll report it so it's included.

Thanks for the laughs on this Monday morning
Hope you have a great week!

@Jamesdean :rotfl:about your post!!! So great! Yes, I got a text from someone saying she met a lady who had THR with some famous Dr. in the US and the lady had walked out of hospital three hours later and was back to business at her horse breeding farm two days later or some ridiculous thing. I'm sure the lady did really well, but I know the story "grows" with each telling! What is the point of telling me that? Just want to swat them!

I really think people lose track of their recovery time. :umm:Not believing most of that. Why do people even think that's helpful?
This healing is going to happen when it happens, and your body is in charge.
You are doing fine...it will get better faster if you don't power through it! Honest!

Rest well tonight!

Slow and steady wins the race! Your poem made me laugh out loud and was an antidote to some of the comments I am getting at work who can’t understand why I still use a crutch.

I am severely tempted to snap a photo of my long scar on my iPhone and make them puke! If I could find a decent way of doing it...

Just rest, walk and don’t overdo it and you will be climbing Everest next month (or not)!!

@SurreyGirl . Glad you enjoyed my poetry...it's a method of healing for me....without becoming too frustrated or angry with certain insensitive people. You actually do start to think something is wrong and why isn't my recovery as quick and then lightbulb moment..epiphany..it ain't a competition. Although I am very competitive by nature am prepared to let "Lefty" (new hip) dictate the pace....Although already dreading when Lefty will be meeting up with Righty in about a year.

As for your work colleagues there is a fantastically revolting YouTube video of complete total hip replacement...show them that and give them a hot dog with ketchup on while they are watching....

Well, NHS doing themselves proud. Just had follow up visit from District Nurse and I am officially now a little bleeder, something that many people have suspected throughout my life. Some blood still appearing but not too much and the consensus of opinion is that cause is dissolving annoying stitch...who knows and as long as no infection and it stops, who cares. Am due another visit next Tuesday. Oh, she agreed with ice and elevation, and stop exercises if they hurt [unusual approach I think for UK].

The transfer to co-codamol [paracetamol and codeine] has been a glorious transition and the pain of the constipation has made me forget any other pain in the hip/thigh/leg/foot....Figs, senokot, liquorice, coffee...positive result - although square peg round hole springs to mind.

Ahhh...Memories!:sigh:
I had a time of it too.
I was talking to my Mother on the phone when struggling with this problem 4 days post op...still no go...but had to go...
Her suggestion.
Just go sit for a bit, relax, read a magazine.
Um...bilateral hip replacement and hard potty chair...relax? Right!

Many here sing the praises of a pumpkin puree cure.
I feel convinced that the reason that, prune juice, and other constipation fixes work is that they are all horrid and our bodies promptly eject them:heehee:

I did routinely take stool softeners, but did not find that made the toilet seat any softer.
Fun recovery stuff.
This too shall pass (pun intended):)

Not at all! Where do you think I got all this 'preaching' from? Hardly any of the hip surgeons I've worked with (since 1959) made exercises mandatory in any way, shape or form! That's where I got the BIG TIP from
"Hips actually don't need any exercise to get better. They do a pretty good job of it all on their own if given half a chance. Trouble is, people don't give them a chance and end up with all sorts of aches and pains and sore spots. All they need is the best therapy which is walking and even then not to excess."

@Josephine I stand corrected, actually due to the constipation, I sit corrected. Had it not been for your advice on here I would still be following the regime of the surgeon, nurses, physio and GP of exercising no matter what. I guess it's down to who you meet and probably a bit of research which of course I did not do...!!

If I had done any research I would have bought a recliner...oh how I long to sit on the settee again...it just stares at me, tempting me, taunting me.......it's cruel I tell you, so cruel and heartless

I didn’t have a recliner so just went to bed with lots of icepacks and put my foot up.

Re going to the loo..... oh the indignity of it all and us ladies have to sit down and get upEVERY TIME...remember! You men have the advantage here. .
