Hi @SurreyGirl Aren't people sensitive? Not! Just what you want is a bunch of duffers telling you your recovery is slow. It will probably be easier for me but if I get the why is it taking so long might just moon them so they can have a good look at my Al Capone - don't call me scarface (old ska tune).

@Jamesdean Yes, my day has been productive and restful all at the same time. Tidied the house, took a nap, took a walk, followed by a nap. Seriously, a nap goes with everything! It seems my songwriting career ended as fast as it started. Just some bad cheese there. Look at that, I learned a little UK slang too.

@SwampHiker and thing Napping is a pleasure I agree with you and should I fall off my mountain of duvet and pillows on the settee I would just like to thank you and everyone else for their support as I heard it through the grapevine that it's a long and winding road to recovery and we have many rivers to cross and many mountains to climb but I have to admit it's getting better and we'll get there in the end with a little help from our friends.
Goodnight, and sweet dreams at hushabye  mountain

I think I took too many naps yesterday so up at 4.30 catching up on threads (how comes I missed so many)?
Are you nearly out of the ‘club’? Or is it taking a bit longer.
I can see your back at Rivers tomorrow, it’s become a second home for you, it’s the cold half eaten toast that did it for you .
Hope you had a better weekend and I will try and keep up this week.

Went for a lovely walk yesterday, leisurely pace, furthest I have been but really slowly, something I would not have enjoyed before op. Yep back to Rivers Tuesday evening 20.15 to see surgeon. Have a lot of questions so hopefully he has the time. Thats something I find really difficult is understanding the differences for all us hippies regarding treatment:
I had a long wait for various reasons before the GP gave me a 3rd referral to have my hip done, and it was urgent. Got the consultant appointment some 14 weeks later - spoke to him for about 5 minutes and then off for x rays. Back to surgeon consultant who confirmed I had no cartilage on left hand side [which had been confirmed 2 years before] and he would operate and it would be beginning of September. Just needed to clear funding with NHS as private hospital. I asked a couple of questions such as walking afterwards, what I needed to do prepare, would I be able to go back to work etc and however nice he is, and he is a really lovely guy, the answers were short and the whole proceedings lasted about 5 minutes. I subsequently received a date for beginning of September which then got cancelled three times because according to pre op nurse they did not have the parts [bit like a garage eh?]. So when I read on here about how a lot of people have had lots of pre op chats with their surgeon or their office wonder if I was just stupid?
Then you have people contacting their surgeon or surgeons staff if they have a problem, I tried that and really got nowhere other than is it red, is it hot to the touch, well you will be seeing him soon. GP tells you contact surgeon, hospital tells you to contact District nurse: District nurse tells you to contact GP: and this happens time after time. So tomorrow for my appointment I am armed with questions and more questions and will hold my ground.
Loads of hippies seemed to leave hospital with morphine, but I left with just some paracetamol and ibuprofen, and a fare thee well. Am I super human and feel no pain? If you prick me do I not bleed? [sorry Will] Stockings or no stockings? Knee or thigh high? Staples, glue or stitches? Tramadol? Codeine? Cocodamol? Which is best, why is that best? Exercise or walk? Exercise and walk? Just walk? Why the differences in approach, is there not a standard approach? I am easily baffled and honestly it does make for worries when you hear of all the different approaches and you start wondering if you are being short changed or the right procedures are being followed for recovery. If it hurts stop versus physio and GP if it hurts push through the pain??? My treatment has been fantastic regarding hospital stay but before and after could use a little bit of brushing up. And there you have it, my tuppence worth, actually it was probably worth less than that. And now, back to writing prose, poetry, jingles and songs with no inappropriate content and wishing you all a pain free recovery [I was going to put speedy but know different now] so just a pain and worry free recovery. Phew, I am knackered now.... [ I do understand the difference in private or national health medicine I am not that naive.]

It is true..I feel like I had a very skilled surgeon, probably just lucky as I did very little research...and stumbled through recovery as there was not much direction given on that front.
I feel access and the wait time is not as bad here in US, but do feel like I was left to figure the recovery thing out on my own.
Was ever grateful for finding Bonesmart however.
My OS had not had hip replacement nor did the PT who was too aggressive early on.
Getting the scoop from those who know certainly helps.

Good luck for some reassurance tomorrow.

Thank you @Mojo333 I too am happy to have found Bonesmart and I hope that has worked the other way round as well?? Answered a lot of neurotic questions for me but really nowhere else to ask.

Our shared experiences are what makes the forum work.
Our recoveries can be as unique as we are, so maybe that's why there is no succinct recovery protocols?!

Listening to your body and finding what helps and what hinders seems to be the best way to go.

You are still in early days of recovery so things will keep getting better.
Keep the faith, friend!

Hi @Mojo333 Thanks again. Yep, I know now that I am still in the early stages, wasn't aware of that before, there is an awful lot of talk, Gp, nurses, surgeon and physio about the magical 6 week mark and I think you are always going to be aiming for that - what they maybe should say is that an average ish recovery is 6 weeks but many many people take a lot longer than that, then you are no so disappointed at six weeks if you are not driving, skiing, swimming or playing ice hockey. I know its only words but this magical 6 week is bandied about far too flippantly in my humble opinion.

I was at the same hospital as you know I left with aspirin paracetamol and ibuprofen. I also got given by the nurse that discharged me some morphine. As she said she didn’t think what I had was enough pain relief and to get decent pain relief helps in healing process. I was never given morphine in hospital only paracetamol and oxedine (not sure if spelling). My friend who is a nurse said it does depend on the nursing team. I just wish I had the nurse that I had on my last day (she even asked if I had been given ice) all the time but unfortunately I had one that thought grin and bare it was the NHS way.

Happy Monday!
You do have to be your own advocate. Take my advice, or leave it, but one thing I wouldn't waste any time with the OS on is surgical "approach" it makes no difference and it's water under the bridge, you can't go back.

As far as PT, I think it's a personal choice. Some OS's believe in it and push it, some advise against it, others stay neutral and leave it up to you (my personal experience) I went three times and quit. Give it a try if you haven't already and you're curious. Just don't do anything that hurts, if it does, refuse and STOP.

As far as meds, if you're still needing them, ask for what you need. All they can do us turn you down.
I think it's good you're armed with questions but put them in order of importance in case he hurries you or cuts you off. I'd also consider recording the visit on your cell. When I have a lot of questions for someone I find I'm not always absorbing all they say as I'm anticipating my next question. Also ask him who you can contact when you have questions going forward.

Please understand that no two recoveries are alike. I know you've read it over and over again. You've also read it takes up to a full year and some OS's will tell you even longer. So.....you're in your infancy with a long, long way to go, separating you from these very early days of the surgical placement of an implant that will serve you for many years to come.

Go in peace.....ha-ha...I feel like I just gave a sermon.
@Jamesdean

Hi and thanks Layla @Layla . No, not a sermon at all, very informative, comprehensible, useful and measured advice..I really do thank you. As we say in the good ole UK, ta very much!! And I will take your advice.

And now, back to writing prose, poetry, jingles and songs with no inappropriate content and wishing you all a pain free recovery

@Alitm and @Ldm380 many thanks for your kind messages. Have all day to think about it as appointment this evening at 20.15. Plenty of time to do, cross out and redo my questions, as per advice from Layla @Layla, putting them in order of priority in case surgeon limits the time.

Wow, that is a late appointment. I always request mine late morning! Don't forget to put 'our' numbness on your list ... maybe he has a suggestion of something we can do, other than have patience.

Hi @Izabel Wasn't asked about time, just given it - shame really because I am more knackered in the evening with more swelling but at least he will able to get a good butchers [real UK speak] at it. Your numbness is number 3 question so don't worry, my numbness is number 5. Will report back Captain as soon as possible. If you want to make a start on willie warmer please go ahead, some of the numbness in that area now disappearing ha, ha
