Maybe this is the answer to your bad night. These knees can be so unpredictable during the first 3 months---and so mean to us. You're really doing all you can at the moment. Could be that you need to take tomorrow off completely---do as little as possible other than taking pain meds on a schedule, resting, elevating and icing while watching mind numbing TV or reading or anything where you are NOT on your feet. This frequently works pretty well. Could be we all need to be making sacrifices to the "knee god" who seems to be in charge of pain and swelling. Take care and keep us posted. We care.

Ok, so my Vicodin has really kicked in all of a sudden (After 3 1/2 hours!) so you can no longer hold me responsible for my posts this evening. Who knows what may come out of these fingertips! :rotfl::wink:

Oh, Shelly, I can not bear to watch those ASPCA ads----they are heart breaking----I will never understand people who could be so cruel to animals---nor do I understand people who are cruel to other people.

This is a video my hubby made. After you watch this, you will forever think of this anytime one of those commercials comes on again!

Shelly, I am sooooo glad that your Vicodin finally kicked in. I do hope that you get a good sleep. Take care of you tomorrow!!! (((((hugs))))) :console2:

OH MY GOSH that is the funniest video EVER!!!! I laughed out loud when Hubby started bawling.
Okay now being serious....you need to STOP with the non-stop Law and Order when you start to feel down. Hit the Hallmark,s/h/appy ending stuff when you know you are at risk. Law and Order is about the dark side of life. How about a nice English mini-series or Hallmark or something you might find to be happier?

Aaa that's lovely! I was told 3 months for swimming, but others have been in a pool as soon as scar is healed. You can maybe manage the ladder the same way as you would a staircase, I did that at first. And I discovered at our local pool I discovered I could go in via children's pool and walk round in the water to deeper 'end'. It is just a leisure pool.

Shelly, your hubby's video is the bomb! And you're right, I will remember it every time those gut wrenchers come on. He did a really good job---and the dogs gave outstanding performances. I'm still grinning from ear to ear.

Awe Shelly, that video was awesome! When that tune started, I started to tear up because that tune always does that to me, but when your hubby started to crack under puppy pressure, that's when I lost it! I was laughing so hard tears were rolling down my face! Norm heard me and the tune and came right by my side and asked what I was listening to, so I let him watch from the beginning. Both he and I always tear up upon watching those ASPCA ads, cause we can't believe someone can be so cruel, so now we will always remember the good people like you and your hubby! Thanks for sharing! :friends: :goodpost:

Shelly,
The video was great. I almost didn't watch the whole thing because when the song came on I just cannot deal with it, ASPCA and all. I breed Great Danes and the thought of someone doing harm to any dogs just makes me crazy.

Awesome... your hubby should submit that to America's Funniest Home Video! Adorable pups too... remind us of ours and how they make us feel like we have starved them when it's time for us to eat...
On the pool thing.. I was told by my OS and therapists that once the scar is healed and sealed you are good to get in the pool, I was using clear sterile bandages before it was completely healed that the hospital gave me, because my hospital has a therapy pool they try to get you into within a couple of days after surgery... best therapy in my book for this surgery!
I went thru and still occasionally have the blues, it is part of our post surgical symptoms mostly brought on by the pain meds... however there are days I just wonder how my poor hubby can deal with this emotional wreck of a woman.. so you are in good company here and know that it will slowly dissipate with a little time... hang in there Shelly!

Hi Shelly, I have been off the forum a bit lately as my surgeries have been postponed. But I read your post about infertility and just wanted to add my two cents if it helps at all. I hope it isn't out of place and I understood it correctly, but I wanted to post on your thread.

My husband and I didn't have any kids for a long time. I did raise my sister's kids quite a bit, she was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic and had others live with me in my house. It took 19 years(!) for us to have our one and only. Yes I did hear all the same phrases you wrote. It does seem heartless and cruel when they offer those platitudes, but I know they don't mean it that way. When we miscarried no one seemed to care and just offered, "at least you know you can get pregnant" like that helped. ha. People even told me I could never love my nephews as much as my own and I always wondered about that because I loved them a lot. I always wondered if I would love my own more and how could I. Well it wasn't true. I loved my nephews and nieces that lived with me just as much as my own come to find out. And if I hadn't been so busy with them I would certainly have adopted. I just wanted to encourage you to not give up, and if you felt any opposition to adopting because of any similar poor advice I received, just go for it. But whatever you decide, know that others have been through the same thing.

Hope your Knee recovery is going smoothly, isn't this forum great? Helps so much to hear from others that have gone through it.

Kayekaye,
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts. We have not given up on adoption yet. My husband just wants to hold off until he feels that we don't have a chance of our own. Both of us need to lose weight and we started to do that but then had the set back when my knee went phooey again in April and we started putting the weight back on again. I am hoping that once I can get mobile again he and I will get back on track and lose that weight so our systems will start working properly again. I have an issue that I don't ovulate on time monthly so trying to time things is nearly impossible but after I had lost 40+ lbs last year I was back on a regular cycle. It has gone awry again due to me gaining the weight back. He also has some issues so he needs to get healthier to make his issues go away. We are hoping that with this new knee, I won't keep getting these setbacks in my weight loss (not being able to be active and being miserable wanting to eat my troubles away) and we will be able to make things happen. But, the closer he gets to 40, the more adoption seems probable. The hardest part for me with adoption would be having to choose which child I would want because I would want to help all of them. It would break my heart to have to pick only one.

Well, apparently I overdid things yesterday because I woke up 4 times due to pain in the 6 hours of sleep I had. I just took more pain meds but they take a while to kick in. I am so very tired this morning. I have to work from home today too. I also have PT at 3:30 this afternoon. Ugh! This is going to be a very long day. Looks like a nap will be in order.

The video your husband made was, as in Judy's words, 'The Bomb". My three yr old son watched it said, "That man is a goofy-crack-me -up but he loves his dogs. Does his brother cry like that too?"

Shelly, I hope your pain subsides and allows you to get some much needed rest! If you don't feel up to PT it's okay to cancel for one day until you feel better. :console2:

Stay well my friend! :friends:

Hugs Shelly! If you feel too run down, its okay to cancel PT for a day. I am surprised with my tender tummy that hits me a few times a week, hasn't hit on a PT day yet.

Aw Shelly..be gentle on yourself today and let yourself catch up on your sleep but not so much that you can't sleep tonight! Take good care and cuddle those sweet puppies!
