Thanks Shelly, Randi and Marianne. Well, it was expected in that she was 15 years old and dwindling away and losing vision, hearing and she was slowing down. But it was also an accident in that she somehow got in the way of my car as I pulled out of the driveway. I was sooooo traumatized. She was a dear little doggie. I had a horrible time yesterday. We are missing her and so is my other dog. Misty just looks everywhere for her and even has her tail down, which she never does. She is a Samoyed. If you go to my thread you can see the pics that I posted of my dogs.

Shelly, I do hope that you were finally able to get some sleep and that your day went well today. I also had a very rough time sleeping last night.

I manage to sleep alright but then again, I don't have to get up and work. However, I do relate to the coldness issue, then I'm too hot, then my tummy hurt, then my socks pull on the covers. I guess I don't sleep that well actually. I usually get up about 2am and move to my extra wide window seat in the living room where I can rustle around without worrying about waking someone up. Really, though, having to get up at a certain time adds a whole layer of stress that makes sleeping harder.

I was hurting pretty bad at 6am and decided I was staying home today. Didn't sleep much and being in pain makes for a not to productive work day so I stayed home and worked on the files I brought home and whatever else they sent me today. I am glad I made that decision because I feel much better now. I had a different PT because my guy was booked yesterday and she was nice but had me do more than he does so I think I just over did it especially after working 4 hours. Let's see how tomorrow goes.

It seems like there are a lot of blues this week for a lot of people. I wonder if it is because of the holidays coming and us gimpy folks can't be out and about like we normally are so it makes us unhappy. This year I am doing all of my shopping online. I am almost done with it already! :happydance: but I am thinking that may be part of everyone's sadness right now. Any thoughts?

Defnitley Shelly. It does get you down when you see everyone running around doing the normal christmas activity. Last year we were able to do it all be it a bit slower than everyone else but we wernt bystanders like tihs year. Everyone tells you "Tis the season to be jolly " well its not the same with pain, ice and elevate. I really do feel for you having to work. I really couldnt cope with that, People at work must think Ahh shes back so she must be ok when in reality we know youre not. Keep resting and dont work too hard. Take care x

Oh Patricia, That is soooo true that people look at us and we "look better" we are doing some regular everyday things and they have no idea that we are on a loooonnnnnggggg journey of healing. This healing is a very long process and it is so hard not to start thinking "I should be doing more." NO! You should not! We need to resist that temptation and get ourselves back to the sofa, bed or recliner and Rest, Ice and Elevate. If we do too much too soon our long journey becomes even longer and more painful. It will do each of us well to inform others gently that we are in the process of a healing that takes a year. They are clueless and we need to educate them. Hang in there!!!

Take good care of yourself Shelly, and come here when you need to, because we get it. We know what it takes and how long, and what you need. We are here for one another! :console2:

BJ is so right. It's frustrating when we are forcing ourselves to walk "normal" thinking about each step and feeling the pain or stiffness. Then people say, "you are walking so good now!" And they think all is well. It's not that WE want sympathy at all. We just want understanding when we have to decline certain events or activities and understand when we can't bring a homemade dish to an event or help with things where we have to stand for a long time.
Shelly I am glad you took care of yourself and stayed home today. Good for you! Hopefully they will see that you can get alot done at home and will let you just stop coming in, except for picking up work. You are probably right about seasonal blues too. We want to participate and provide special times for our families and kids and it's impossible right now.

Shelly I too started back to work (too soon I think now) first from home at about 3/12 weeks! I was mostly answering emails and monitoring reports, then at 6 weeks after my doc said I was doing amazing for a BTKR he released me to drive.. well I said I guess that means I can go into the office now, he said only for a couple hours.. or I won't release you.. I promised.. and then thought I was superwoman and would stay 4 to 6hrs and limp home and cry until the pain killers kicked in.. all the while everyone in the office saw me there and figured I was "all better" ... I am now at 12 weeks and working mostly 8 hr days, but when I get home I am exhausted and am very lucky to have a helpful husband that can cook, although I know it is getting old for him and he is getting ready to start a new job so I try to help as much as I can, but he sees me working and feels if I can go to work 8 hrs I can make a meal or do some laundry... it's that perception thing... and he KNOWS what I went thru, he saw it.. so I can only imagine those that don't have a clue what they think or perceive to be normal... So happy to have my network of Bone Smart friends here!!!

Shelly, on top of short days and the holiday bustle around us, the full moon effects me terrible and always has. The full moon this month, according to the Farmer's Almanac, was November 28th (Full Beaver Moon) at 9:46 am. Whenever I start to feel down, I look up!

Thanks everyone! So, today I went in to work and had a talk with my bosses. We cut my going in to work down to 2 days a week, 4 hours a day for at least the next two weeks and then slowly wean myself back in. My bosses are so understanding, it is wonderful! I will still be working from home (As I have been since DAY 6) but at least at home I can do so with my leg in the air with ice.

Men - Stop reading here as I am sure you want nothing to do with this part!
I am a bit worried about my emotions next week. As young as I am, I still have to deal with my monthly visitor. Unfortunately, I always get very emotional/moody around that time. I am already way too emotional right now due to all of this other ****. How am I going to do it with both of these issues going on??? I will be a crying mess! Buy stock in kleenex because I think I will be raising their value next week!

I am glad to hear that your bosses are so understanding and flexible. Yay, You get to work at home and take care of yourself a bit more that way.

Now, hang in there with all that emotional jazz, that just stinks that you have one stacked on top of the other. Maybe some vitamin B and Herbal remedies would help.

Today was a fairly good day. I didn't have much pain to speak of at all. I stayed home today and was in my PJs until 5pm. I sat on the couch watching Law and Order episodes while working on the computer all day. I did have a sleepy spell so I took an hour nap. But overall I had a relatively decent day. Here's hoping my night follows suit. Good night Smarties! Until the morn, I wish you all well!

I found out that my city has a pool that I can join! I was wondering if anyone knows how long I have to wait before I am able to get into the pool. Is it just once the scar is healed and closed or should I wait a certain time frame? I would love to be able to get in there and start water walking to build the muscle and lose some weight. I am still using the cane right now but I was thinking that if I used the cane just to get to the steps then my hubby could go put the cane at a chair for me and I could hold the side of the pool or a floating device for support while I am in the pool. My only fear is if it doesn't have one of those step areas to get in and only has a ladder how the heck would I manage that? I think I will go there and check it out first.

Shelly, I know what you mean about being emotional, however I don't deal with the monthly issue anymore the first couple of months after my TKR I was a basket case. These emotions would pop up out of nowhere, my poor husband must have thought, geesh I hope she's not starting up with her periods again :skep:, I would start to cry over commercials for goodness sakes! Being on all those heavy duty drugs had a lot to do with it, then when I weened off of them it continued until they were completely out of my system. I cry at the drop of a hat anyway, so it only got worse with the drugs and being laid up from the operation, and feeling so vulnerable.
The raw emotional stuff will pass Shelly, it just takes time. Think of the tears as cleansing the soul, after a good cry you kind of feel like the shades have been lifted and you can see clearly again. Just let hubby know that it will be there for a while and it's not him, it's just the way it is for a while.

Stay well my friend! :friends:

Just reading this got tears in my eyes! LOL! It will be wonderful when these issues are gone. I did tell him about it and not to worry and he understands. He laughs at me sometimes because I will cry at the commercials but you put one of those ASPCA commercials on an watch the water works from him! Though, I don't know a soul who can watch one of those and not tear up at least a little. :puppysmooze:

Oh, Shelly, I can not bear to watch those ASPCA ads----they are heart breaking----I will never understand people who could be so cruel to animals---nor do I understand people who are cruel to other people.

:)
Hi Shubbles My LTKR is one year and two days old and I was feeling exactly like you a year ago but listen to Josephine and Roy and all the bonesmarties and you will get there, It is major surgery and post op it is scary, frustrating, emotionally draining and hard work but for the first few weeks I would rest, ice, elevate, watch movies, read, and only do very very gentle stretches, you will get there in the end, I too was frustrated and scared and and fought against and was trying to push too hard, it actually has the opposite effect and probably held me back, I had to learn the hard way by pushing things too fast too soon and making my recovery longer, please try and kick back and let your body do its healing and take your pain meds regularly and dont wait until you are sore,I am back at work full time, I can walk miles, dance all night, go up and downstairs, hills, and no pain but even at a year if I push it I still need to ice but its a small price to pay, it can take even up to 2 years to fully recover and who knows for some maybe even longer but in general after about 6 months you see a huge improvement, you will soon be looking back same as me and encouraging someone else like us at this time next year. Your doing great and on the right road now, its just a long haul and not a quick fix but you will get there -hugs to you
Linda

Not having a good night tonight. I didn't feel as if I overdid it today but tonight I am having a ton of pain. I went out this morning but I only did a little walking and the big part was my hubby pushing me in a chair. Then I came home and elevated and was fine. Later in the day I had to walk outside in the drive and stand there for a short while and sit in a seat for about half an hour, but now I have had my leg up and iced and doubled the pain meds almost 3 hours ago and I'm still ready to scream! I don't know what else to do. Ugh!!!
:gaah: :hairpulling: :hissy: :tantrum: :headbang:
