MUA New Knee #2 Recovery<

They are sending me home 3 pages worth of exercises to start before I go to outpatient pt ( or so they think lol)

I got those, too. I still have those pages sitting around somewhere, gathering dust. Never used them. :heehee: You chose wisely to just put them in your bag and smile.

Glad to hear you finally get to come home. Hoping your pain and nausea stay controlled I got the same list. Haven’t looked at it. I have in home PT every day. Very light stretches. Short walks with walker, now cane around house. Focusing on ice, elevate rest and gait. Staples come out tomorrow.

Oh it's so nice being home. Ride home was uneventful. Propped up on my lounge doctor and trying to ice but it's a bit sensitive tonight so just doing the sides of knee. Getting ready to take my 5 different pills and go to bed . Wasn't home 5 mins. And all the phone calls started . Home health and home pt..oh we need to get started blah blah. Little did they my os put the keebash to that. Besides I still have a pico unit with tubing I'm carrying around haha. My OS doesn't let anyone else remove the bandage anyway so what is the point of them coming lol.

So with that being said, I'm just going to relax, elevate and ice. I know from experience that's about all I'm going to feel like doing the first week home. I was the only patient left on the floor yesterday so it was easy getting my meds lol. And yes these nausea patches are amazing

I'm checking out for the night. I am exhausted so I hope I sleep! Take care all!

Should I be concerned about running a low grade fever? Its running between 100.5 to 101.6 in the last 14 hours. Also have diarrhea (sorry tmi) that's gone on since I got home yesterday.

I ran a low trade fever the first week or so. If yours goes any higher you should call your doctor. It's strange, but some people do get diarrhea after this, though it is not as normal as constipation. Be sure and drink plenty of liquids to help replenish those liquids that you're losing with your upset tummy.

@sistersinhim thank you for the information. I will just wait and see what happens. This didn't happen last time so wasn't sure. Thank you again!!

1 week post op and am still fighting nausea..its just not relenting. Everytime I drink or swallow anything it feels like it wants to not go down...like my throat is closed up. It does go down but it hurts. Also having acid reflux, something I've never had before. I just don't get it. Dizziness wont go away. Been getting up every hour and walking with walker. It is rather painful but at 1 week not surprised.

Ok whining over..at least for now :heehee:

Can you contact your surgeon or your own doctor? You can be prescribed medication to stop that nausea.

Also, are you taking any non-steroidal anti inflammatories (NSAIDs), such as Ibuprofen? They can cause stomach upset and bleeding. If you are taking an NSAID you should stop taking it now and tell your doctor about the acid reflux.

@Celle I'm on a nausea patch ...my OS tried 2 different meds each time after the surgeries. It seems nothing we try works. I'm not on any nsaid mefications.

You are probably because you aren't eating well. Have you tried adding motion-sickness pills? They helped my nausea. Can you drink protein drinks? They help to coat your stomach plus give you some much needed protein.

Because after a tkr you really need yummy troubles. Geez, that has to be miserable. Are the patches helping?

My appetite is off but no nausea. Feel better.

@sistersinhim I will have hubby pick some up
so I can try that. This patch obviously isn't working amymore. I have quite a stack of protein drinks in the garage. I will get some refrigerated. All i can really stomach is soup, oatmeal, and applesauce, anything I dont have to try too hard to swallow.

Thank you for the suggestions!

I found the colder the protein drinks, the better I tolerated them. Good luck! I pray you can get rid of that nausea.

@beachy the patches seemed to help at first but not so much now. I had nausea last time but not like this. And your right it's making life miserable right now.

Went to see OS for 1st post op check up today. Stitches removed, everything looked ok. More bruising than last time but still not to bad. Have some blood pooling on the outer left side so will be keeping an eye on that. They asked about if I was going to PT. Told them I hadn't started yet and really hadn't decided whether to go or not. He only asked that I go to a couple of visits to make sure gait is ok etc. So I will go back to the same place as I know them and they know me. They know not to touch the knee and never pushed me to do anything that hurt or I couldn't do. We are moving Saturday so I will actually be closer to OS and PT (they are in the same office), so will give it a whirl. Just that little outing wore me out so I'm just laying in bed elevating and icing and watching Halloween movies with one of my grand babies.

Getting those stitches out has got to make you knee feel better! It sounds like you OS is right on board with the easy PT! Wonderful!
