Just checked your weather Chef.. Hope your asleep, it is -2 degrees...

Hope you get some relief from the new drug and feel better soon, hang in there buddy :) xxx

LisaP : You had your surgery about a month before me. Do you think any of your tinnitus is because of medication? Do you have any suggestions how to reduce the distraction it causes? You said it has gotten worse. When did it start to get worse? Can you pick out how many different sounds you hear? I normally have 5 sometimes 6. I don't want this to become the "tinnitus haters forum" but I sure would like some ideas if anyone has some. I've tried the music but I would have to turn it up so loud I would keep everyone else up.

Regarding the freezing rain, snow, etc. My feeling is better you than me. Just remember, come summer time you probably still get your nice weather from us!

Oh Sandy:

-2C = I'm not even bothering to wear a coat...

We are tougher than that.:cat-kittyandsmiley:

Hi chef,

Brrrrrrrrr!! Hey it's a tad nippy here tonight "43" nippy enough to wear wooly hat, gloves and a jacket hehehehehehe!

Sorry about this tinnitus it sounds frustrating. Do you hear it all the time of does it come and go? I had never heard of before now! I just read a little about on the mayo clinic page. Hopefully it is medication induced and now you are switching up it will improve.

Are the new drugs working for you? Do you feel better? Probably need to say the new drug (singular!)

Xxooxx

That's actually a good point, Chef. You would do good to research all the drugs you use or have had to see. Some of them do list tinnitus as a side effect.

This Neurontin appears to have some interesting uses including:
a) effective in reducing narcotic usage post operatively
b) chronic neuropathic pain
c) treat some symptoms of opiate withdrawal

I originally thought it was also a possible treatment for tinnitus, but that wasn't the case:scratch:.

YooooHooooo Chef,

It is an interesting drug if you google it says it's one of pfizers top selling drugs! Treats all kinds of things, epilepsy, alcoholics, shingles wooooooo the list is long plus there is article it helps women with hot flashes!

Back to your tinnitus hopefully it was triggered by earlier medication and now you are changing up this might natural make it go away. Unless you were due to start having this ailment which I hope not it's sounds frustrating.

What would we do without google and the Internet to look up things!

Are you feeling better? that's the most important thing!

Hi Chef,
sorry to hear about the tinitus, sounds really annoying. I hope you get some relief soon. I get loud ringing but only very occasionally and have done since childhood when I was convinced I was picking up radio signals. The sleep issues I can empathize with more. I didnt expect to be still struggling with sleep this far off my op. Not that I actually thought about it in advance-but had I done I wouldn't have expected it. Now that does sound like a kind of sleep deprived logic!!:what:
Best wishes
Gizmo

Gizmo -"sounds really annoying" - very funny.

Sarah - Yes, it is 24/7, all day, every day.

Hi everyone, just logged on for two minutes to check how you are all going... It is in my very late lunch time here in OZ - 1:55pm - got to run to another meeting... Will post tonight..

Lots of love, Sandy... Keep moving Chef xx

Hi Chef,

So, it's neurontin now -- still no authorization on the Cymbalta?

If it is not authorized by the insurance company what is the next step to take to appeal and continue to push for authorization? Does your company have a benefits person in the HR department that you could inquire about this process?

I am part of the tinnitus haters club as well -- especially when it wakes me up in the middle of the night and I think it's the darn smoke detector... Would it help to try ear buds with some quiet relaxation type music as you are falling asleep?

Hoping the medication transition is going ok...
Take care,
Cardie

Cardie - I am the HR person, VP, etc. My PMS guy seems to have gone the Neurontin route instead of Cymbalta. "Frustrates" me everytime I see a commercial on TV. I think the Effexor is causing the vertigo and some of the tinnitus as both, especially the vertigo, seem better. Not gone, but less bothersome.

So far no problems with the Neurontin. Tomorrow I double the dose and will be done with the Effexor. I've been taking 3 Aleve daily and getting some relief but causing some other distress in the hip that I'm not sure what to make of. I'll stop the Aleve Thursday and see what happens. I would really like to get back to some exercising but by the time I get home from work, make dinner, eat dinner it is after 7:00 and exercise falls pretty far down the list of things I want to do.

Can't wait to go home today. It should be about 55F when I leave.:dancy:
No snow predicted through the weekend.

LisaP - You're welcome for the nice weather - or will it have changed its mind by the time it gets to you.

Jen, Dallas "still not posted the new 'do'" Sarah, Tashia - Hi:friends:

Chef - I need someone to take picture, Miles hasnt quite learned how to use my iphone to take photos LOLOLOLOL

Hurry up and get better....xxooxx

Okay. It is official. Effexor was NOT causing the tinnitus because it is louder than ever and all that should be out of my system by now. I'm hoping this is just temporary while I ramp up the Neurontin. I'm back to the not sleeping well club.

I have been reading lately about some others with LLD. While I still agree with the "give it some time", I'm no different now than 3 months ago. In some respects it feels worse, but that probably isn't possible.

Oh well, another day, another challenge. Keeps life interesting.

Hi Chef, if the LLD is still bothering you find a very good physio or orthotic maker who can measure any difference properly and advise you on the way forward. It is important that they do this correctly. Here's a thread from the Library that shows how you should be measured.

I had a custom lift added to my orthotics and it worked a treat!

Hope you get the tinnitus sorted soon!

Have you tried registering on a tinnitus support forum? I did when mine was at its peak and they correctly assured me that it would settle eventually. The trick is "mind over matter" meaning - if you don't mind, it won't matter! This is very true because the more you let it get to you, the worse the noise gets.

You need to make almost superhuman efforts to convince yourself that it's really not bothering you at all and as you succeed, the noise will wane. I know, I have done this and there were times when I felt I would go stark raving mad if someone didn't get that whistling out of my head! Sometimes it even seemed to drown out things like the TV, telephone and other extraneous noises. But I managed to beat it. And now, when it gets up steam again, I find I can just tolerate it and very soon it goes away. But once I start fretting about it and thinking how desperate I feel, it just gets worse and worse.

Jaycey - thanks for that suggestion.
Jo - Does it mean anything that I'm ok looking forward but if I try to look to any other position i notice an immediate increase in noise, almost pain in my ear,and a fluttering in my chest?

Hi Chef... Lunch time Friday here, so quick post from me :)

I think this tinnitus needs more investigation, especially if you are experiencing pain in your ear and a sense of fluttering in your chest... Just to be sure, to be sure :)

Big hugs xx

Well, my immediate reaction would be that the pain could be from your neck (though depends what kind of pain, etc.) and the fluttering in your chest is palpitations due to anxiety - literally 'butterflies!'

Have you not had an MRI scan to rule out any pathology on your auditory nerve as that appears to be the first line of diagnosis according to my ENT surgeon. That was the very first thing he ordered. Just occasionally tinnitus can be caused by an anomalous lesion (also know as a lump, growth or innocuous tumour) but only a tiny % are.

Tinnitus can also be caused by conditions in the cervical spine like arthritis so your neck should be investigated too.
