Morphine....Morphine.....Morphine did I hear the word Morphine!! I'm starting to act like that commercial for kibbles when the dog is running around like a lunatic oyyyyyy!

I love the magic of how these pills can take away the pain. On a serious note I would never take as a recreational item. I think they all have their purpose and if taken correctly work and help with the problem.

Chef you are in pain, hopefully this pain dude can give you something that will help with that, then you can worry about either having the pain fixed, or maybe once the pain is under control you can heal naturally.

Sorry to always make jokes about the morphine, I just giggle thinking how silly and happy I was for those first 48 hours after my surgery in the hospital, no pain just pure comedic relief. Hey this is a good thing considering what had just happened!

Love to all.....

xxooxx

Hi Chef,

I'll throw this out there in case it is something that might be helpful for you -- or maybe someone else in your thread has actual experience in this realm and can speak to it -- you have a lot of friends in your thread.

My GP is now suggesting medication for pain modulation, something like Neurontin or Lyrica or an SSRI such as Cymbalta. So, I don't know if your on-going pain issues are considered to be related to post-surgical pain from the procedure itself or that your body/brain has gotten stuck in a pain cycle.

I am not saying that I agree or even understand this theory but maybe with more research and speaking to your doctor you could see if this is the type of approach you should try next instead of the pain killer medications.

Take care,
Cardie

Cardie

You are RIGHT ON with the Cymbalta suggestion. That is the medication that my doctor wants me to take but I can't get approved by insurance. I see him next Friday and since the current "medication" isn't working I'm hoping this will open the door the getting the Cymbalta approved. I'm sure it will help with my "frustration" and I hope with the pain.

I had another bad night again last night waking up at 3:30 restless like a rattlesnake and feeling sick. 3 nights in a row but I'm currently starting a reduction. All will be good soon.

I was telling Sandy - I think - how snowy the weather has been over the past 24 hours. We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday and are expecting 4-6 overnight. I got my car tucked away in the garage and don't plan to go out again until Sunday for groceries.

Thanks for thinking of me.

I hope it works out next Friday for you to get the right meds that you need. I hear you on the sleep thing. I watched the clock most of last night and again tonight just can't get into that sleep. How I could just use a decent night of it. Let us know what goes on next week. Eager to hear how new meds will work for you.

Almost forget... I saw the ENT today for the veritgo and tinnitus. Good news is that my hearing is normal for a 50 year old. Bad news is they can't do anything for the tinnitus. He too thinks it is medicine induced. He would suggest trying another medication. Can we all say at the same time Cymbalta?

He is not concerned about the vertigo either. Me too. It seems to be getting less obvious.

So a couple hundred dollars later I'm sure, the only thing we know is that my hearing is normal.

Does anyone know a good exterminator to get the 3.2 million crickets that are singing in my head?

I could send the SAS swat team over to fix the 3.2m problem.... but it might be a permanent fix... if you know what I mean... Hahahahah....

Good morning Chef - 7:06am - being dragged out of bed for a walk - Sarah... One would think SO is the new puppy in this household - no wait, more like the Sergent Major!!

Chat soon, lot of love to you both xx

Chef

Went for a mile walk around a beautiful part of our big lake and parklands in the city - guess what, unaided..... Da Da!, drum roll please... Big, big achievement for me.

Then SO treated me to breakfast out..

He keeps saying how much he is enjoying us slowly getting back into living.

Yep! Loved the markets yesterday... Hope you get to your soon... His are the snow falls? I see your temp is around minus 4...

Oh heck, Chef - join the club! I wake up some mornings wondering why next door doesn't take that darned whistling kettle off the hob1 Then I realise it#s me1 I've had it for around 10 years now and sometimes it near drives me mental. But eventually you just get used to it. I always have something on in the house, tv, radio, music centre. You have my sympathies.
My GP is now suggesting medication for pain modulation,
This might be the latest protocol in pain management: multiple modality meds. Meaning you take smaller doses of two, three or even four different meds at the same time.

I read a paper about it recently and had to chuckle as I've been doing this for years for my migraines. The usual dedicated meds never worked but I found a cocktail of 1,000mg paracetamol (Tylenol), 30mg codeine and 50mg diclofenac worked a treat. I 'discovered' this cocktail when working in recovery as we used to give it to patients after surgery who couldn't have morphine because they were going straight home. Since it worked a treat for them I tried it myself and it was ace!

Hence the medical fraternity have 'discovered' that smaller doses of two or more different meds are often more effective than large doses of opioids like morphine or oxycodone.

Good luck on Friday Chef, can your doctor make arrangements for you to get a basket full of Cymbalta samples to try whilst the insurance negotiations are going on?

Are you prepared to begin the ascent up the "food chain" to pursue authorization for the medication? Maybe check in with the benefits department of your job... some well placed letters & phone calls.

Squeeky wheel,
Cardie

I have seen this OTC Med for Tinnitus at Walgreens, always wondered if it would work.

Read this on the Walmart.com site:
Tinnitus

Also indexed as: Ears (Ringing), Ringing in the Ears
Health information provided by Aisle7

Roaring or ringing in your ears may mask other sounds and make it difficult to sleep. What can you do to tame tinnitus and hear clearly again? According to research or other evidence, the following self-care steps may be helpful.

  • Rest easy with melatoninImprove sleep quality and relieve other symptoms of severe tinnitus by taking 3 mg of this natural hormone every night
  • Think zincSee a doctor to determine if you are zinc-deficient; if so, taking 90 mg of this essential mineral per day (along with 2 or 3 mg per day of copper) for three months may help
  • Get a checkupVisit your healthcare provider to find out if your tinnitus is caused by a treatable medical condition

Thanks Cardie. I'm the Vice President of the company so I can only go to the owner! I didn't think about the samples route however these drugs are pretty sensitive to stop taking them so I think a constant supply would have to be in order before I started. I'm already on Effexor which has a withdrawal list not to be messed with after taking only a short period of time.

Haldox - I saw a Ear/Nose/Throat doctor last week. He explained how hard it is to treat. I'll take a look at the information you sent. I already take Ambien and the ringing is so loud I still don't fall asleep for an hour or 2. I'm pretty comfortable with the Melatonin. I use that on occassion instead of Ambien. I also take Benadryl. Never any of those at the same time as one another.

This vertigo has got to settle down. I think it is worse than ever. Last night I could hardly sit up and watch TV it was so bad. I layed down and at one point grabbed the sheets things were moving around so much. I think that is a bad side effect of the Effexor. Before it only bothered me getting up or laying down, now I don't even have to move...:rolleyespink:

Chef I am also on Effexor, going on 1.5 year now(anxiety/panic attacks). I had been on Effexor in the past for quite some time too. I had very slowly weened off the last time and didnt experience the horrible withdrawal that I have also read about.

But I will say it took some time to find the right time of day to take it. If I took it too late at night, when I woke up in the morning I felt very groggy and experienced slight vertigo. Too early in the evening and I was kept up all night! Also having a light snack just before taking it helps a lot with any other side effects.

We had/have a guy on the knee side, Tykey, who suffered from tinnitus and used meditation to control it. Didn't work for me though. And neither did any of the things you suggested, haldox. I went through all of that and more and nothing. zilch. Just have to learn to live with it.

Hiya Chef

Good luck with the next appointment, sorry about the vertigo and tinnitus.. I did have a solution!

Thanks for the email xxx Sandy

Boy, I've had really bad vertigo a couple of times and there is nothing worse. Hang in there....hope it improves soon!

I had my PMS (no not that, Pain Management Specialist) appointment today. He wants me to stop the current medication I'm on in 4 days and start taking Neurontin after that. Build up to 300mg and see how I feel. Since the last meds didn't do anything positive for me trying something new is okay.

He was pleased with my reduction in Percocet consumption although doesn't completely understand why I can't just stop.

Don't much feel like anything more.

I hope all are healing well and staying as active as possible.

Hi Chef! Can I ask you one big favor... Keep your freezing rain and snow in Ohio!!! It's coming from you guys and I'm not to happy... hehehee! I also have horrid tinnitus and my doctor told me that there is nothing I can do about it. I've had it for awhile but it has gotten worse since my surgery. Try doing your leg stretches while you are try to fall asleep with a little music on.... it helps me. Huggs!! Lisa
