Therapist just left and I get to use a cane (stick) now, but if it's really hurting use the walker. Such a good feeling graduating to 1 cane. Staples out tomorrow, (happy dance).not to bad for 13 days out. So glad it's all comming together.

detazlady, sounds like you are really doing well with this recovery! Be sure and sleep with a pillow between your legs if you are sleeping on your non- op side. You need to keep that leg from falling forward onto the bed. Happy healing!

detazlady Wowwee, you have just graduated from walker to cane (stick). Great news for you, you'll be amazed on how much more independence you have (at least I did). Even dishes yuck but it was time unless there are alot of dinner dishes then hubby does those. Last couple of days dinner hasn't required many dishes so I have done those....me 5-10 minutes, hubby 20+ time to cut him a break....lol Even did a load of laundry gotta say I love my grabber just wish I one in each room:heehee:

I do what i did was I bought and extra pillow case for my body pillow and sewed some elastic stripes from side to side, and slide my leg between the elastic and it stays in place where ever my leg goes the pillow goes, no problems so far. it works out great.

I have 3 of them one in the bathroom, bedroom and computer TV room. if I start spending time in the basement I'll get one for down there.

Went for a walk with my hubby outside today with the cane. went a few blocks, odd thing was it bothered my knee more than it did my hip, but felt good to be outside.

I meantioned the same thing to the therapist today about my knee on the unoperated side. She said, it is from the sitting position and standing all weight going on the good side. She said just lift the good knee up and down which works for me. Maybe that'll work for you and congrats on the walk to today

Liveringer it's the operated side that's bothering me, but I just took pain meds and iced my knee and it feels alittle better. thanks.

Mind do everything in small doses detazlady, do to much and it will only set you back. Getting onto the one cane is a step forward and i am sure it won't be long before you start leaving it behind.

My goodness that's pretty rapid transistion to a stick. Well done to you detazlady. I can get where you're comin from with the knee...first few weeks I had more pain in that than my hip ... dont worry it should ease off. Am no expert but I think it must be taking a lot of pressure just now.. theres been a lot of hammering and trauma aswell so maybe that's a lot to do with it. You're doin great anyway . Claire.

thats what I was figuring . but I knew with having had both knees replaced allready it would take some time for thoes to feel betteralso. so and steady I go.

Just noticed you're a fellow Michigander, detazlady. I'm in the Lansing area. Isn't it wonderful to finally get some real spring weather? Hope it sticks around this time!

The various aches and pains in different places are so common for a quite a while yet. One day it's a knee. The next day it might be the thigh. Then back to the knee or an ankle or a calf muscle or the other knee. On one walk it's the front of the knee and later in the day it's the back of the knee. You are relearning to walk in a normal way, and there is a whole lot healing that has to occur....over the course of a year or more...maybe two years. And you've had your knees done too.....I don't see your surgery dates, so I'm not sure how far along you are on any of the replacements. But you obviously know the importance of patience. :)

I had my LTKR in Florida 5.5 years ago and my RTKR June of 2011. Also had my back and neck fused and plated. so it's going all over the place but mostly my L knee.
Yes it's about time we get some spring weather, my granddaughters are even talking about laying out when they get home from school the next few days. I think they are pushing but you know how teens are.

nurse came out and took the staples out, not a drop of blood or oozing from any of them, she said she wishes they all went that good. feels good to have them out.not to bad for 2 weeks out.getting around much better and not much pain meds during the day.wonderful feeling.

detazlady, good to hear that you've got those staples out and are feeling good and happy with where you are in recovery.

Could you please put your surgery date in your signature, as well as what surgery you had (i.e., LTKR, RTHR) like the rest of us do? And knee dates, too. You can find the instructions here: How to create a signature. But please also remember that our membership is international and for clarity use the International Date system being Jan. 10, 2013 or 10 Jan. 2013 rather than 1/10/13 or 10/1/13. Thanks so much for your cooperation.

Therapist came today and said he will release me from home therapy on friday. I don't start out patient therapy till the 9th. He also said If I'm not taking my pain meds. I can drive if I want to. I didn't think I could just 15 days out. So I will wait atleast till I go to out patient therapy and see what they say.Does anyone have any feelings about driving so soon with a posterior approach? any sugestions would be greatful. Thanks.

detazlady They say if you can do quick braking that you should be able to drive, the only concern would probably be the 90 degree. Wait and see what others might advise. But good for you if you can drive!

Driving again is mostly feeling confident that you can make a hard, quick emergency stop. It's a good idea to find a safe spot and test it out. You do need to be able to comfortably move your right leg from accelerator to brake and back. I can't speak to straight shifts---haven't driven one in years---but both legs will have to be able to do their jobs with relative ease. Again, you just have to find a safe spot and test it out.

I personally don't think you have anything to worry about regarding the 90 degree restriction---I never even thought about it, but I did not drive for 6 weeks with my hip and for 4 weeks when both knees were done 2 days apart.
