detazlady, to the "other side" and the wonderful world of recovery. I know is good to be home at last and to have that brand new hip. Just follow the mantra - rest, elevate, ice and take your pain meds by the clock, and all will be well.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

Day 5, Hip feels real good, but it seems that all I want to do today is sleep, and I can't seem to get warm. I've got the chills but no fever. what to do?

I think if you're feeling tired and drained then you can also feel cold, we all need to sleep lots at first and even now at 5 weeks post op I can still have an afternoon nap.

detazlady Sleep & cover with a blanket. Sleeping is good to heal. Speaking of which I'm headed to the couch now for my nap. I suggest you do the same :ok:

Day 8 and doing really well.Therapist doubled up on half of my exercises, said I should be able to go with out the walker next week. Will see how things go. Staples come out on the 30th. all 35 of them. Can't wait.Went for a walk outside yesterday, it went ok but the walker kept hitting the cracks and made it harder to walk so will wait till I'm using the cane. Didn't think it would be this nice not to feel the bone on bone pain when I move and walk. It's been heavenly with out it, sure don't miss that pain, I can put up with the healing pain, piece of cake compared to the other pain.Have a great day everyone.

detazlady Good for you what a lovely report. You are right it feels just awesome not to feel that bone on bone pain. Recovery is a small price to pay just knowing I'll have years (if not the rest of my life) of mobility freedom. Hip, Hip Hurray! :yay:

got woke up in the middle of the night finding myself trying to roll over to my side. This is the second time I've done this and both times is when I didn't sleep with my pillow wedge, guess I have to still sleep with it, it keeps me elevated some what like in a recliner. will be so glad when I can sleep on my side again.other than that for being 9 days out I think I'm doing really well. Will be glad when I can get rid of the walker. I's such a pain. take care everyone.

detazlady I know what you mean about the walker. Around day 7 & 8 I tried a cane and was whobbley. On day 9 which was Sunday no whobble been using every since. Today at PT the therapist wanted to see me walk without the cane she convinced me to walk normal as she said I did with the cane and I did. She told me to walk without the cane a little bit around the house but to be sure to walk normal. What a great liberating feeling! I never ever slept on my back but since surgery it has not bothered me kinda weird but, I do feel like one of these days soon I'll be rolling over on my good side just because I wake up headed in that direction without actually doing the motion. (If that makes any darn sense)
So glad you are doing well keep it up, you notice the differences each and everyday. Happy Healing!

It's interesting to read the difference in what we're told to do. I was using 2 sticks/canes from day 3 and that's all I came home from hospital with and within a few more days I was walking round the house without any.

I asked my therapist and he said the doctor said 2 weeks with the walker.oh well guess it could be worse.I am feeling much better, only thing is my incision is really tender today, but thats from healing I hope. It looks good so not worried about that.

detazlady I'm ashamed that I missed your recovery thread -- but now I found it, and I'm so happy to hear how well you're doing :) :)
It is funny how different surgeons say different things-- mine said one week walker and one cane/stick, and then bye-bye to support! BarbaraR had the same anterior approach as I'm going to have, and she never used a walker at all!!
Keep up the good work, and the resting/icing/elevation/pain meds, and the great updates! :)

detazlady, so glad you're doing so well. zauberflöte, I think my surgeon was surprised, but I brought a cane with me to the hospital so except for the day of surgery when they first got me up, I never used the walker-- I told the PT I wanted to go home with the cane. When I was home, I kept forgetting it, so I stopped within a few days, but I still used it when I went out for the first week or so. Everyone is different, and the early part doesn't matter nearly as much as the long term, so if you use a walker or a cane in the beginning it's really no big deal.

I guess it's different if you have the posterior approach. will be glad when these staples come out and I'm no longer sitting on part of them,

slept on my operated side last night and slept through the night, oh what a great feeling. was a little sore when I first rolled onto it but after that it felt so good. best night of sleep in along time.Take care everyone and have a great day.

Another milestone, a full nights sleep... That is a big one... may they continue :)

detazlady Wow sleeping on your operated side. I haven't even done that one, still sleeping on my back. I am thinking I probably am close to doing it automatically. It'll happen when it happens I really haven't minded sleeping on my back like I thought I would. Wishing you continued healing!:ok:
