Wow, Cathy...you sound so good and your hip sounds so good, too! I am glad you had a lovely time in the mountains and that you had the delight of getting in the boat yourself!! That is quite the accomplishment!
Hugs,
Elle

It's obvious that all of us have different joint issues and different recovery speeds. I think you are doing FABOO. When you mentioned that you looked back to 2010 and what you were suffering with, it made me think that we need to be grateful, for our progression whether slow or fast.... and ever so grateful to be out of the PAIN we were in.

"You've Come a Long Way BABY" :yay:

Cathy, you are an inspiration to us all.

Alicia (with the "companionship of Hurricane Isaac right now)

Hi Cathy, so pleased for you that there is that sweet light shining for your recovery.. Getting there girl :)

Gosh, I don't know how I missed your "return from vacation" post!

It sounds like you had a great vacation with just a little difficulty. I am just so impressed that you have been able to bike so much and get in and out of your kayak alone!

Don't you just love the Adirondacks!?! They are so gorgeous. There is a horse trail system at the southern end where I'm determined to get to when theses hips are healed up. I'm shooting for next year.

You are doing great! Just hang in there a little bit longer and you will be rid of that cane. You have such a great attitude about your recovery and I get inspired every time I read your posts.

It has been -about 6 months since my surgery. I do have to say I am really really glad I waited to do anything about the LLD. Those of you who have been on a while tp know how much trouble I had with my SI joint from limping. I still have a bit to go but it is soooo much better. I still need the chiro 2x a month but the LLD is so small now.

Hi Cathy,

I can't remember where I wrote this little anecdote, when I saw the prolotherapy doc and was complaining about my SI joint - pain/swelling, etc. in relation to my THR and the addition of about 1/2" of length to my femur to make up for my congenital LLD. My doc proclaimed that if we were to go out on the street and hand out 1/2" shoe inserts to a dozen "normal" people (non-THR/LLD folks) that after about a week or two they would all be complaining of SI joint pain as well. I took from this that it is the shift in alignment, as well as length change in many of our cases, that causes those joints in the sacroiliac area to shift and become aggrevated. The only other joint in the pelvis is the pubic symphysis (at the front) -- that's the one that gets achey when you are at the end of your pregnancy...

So, hopefully over continued time your LLD will improve and your SI joint will adapt and not be as painful. In the meantime, I told my prolo. doc that I thought we should go out on the street and hand out those shoe lifts so that others could experience what we've got going on... :heehee:

Hope all is going well now that you are back home,
Cardie

Cardie, very funny about handing lifts out on the street. I bet the other side of that is true too, that some peoples SI pain would go away because they have no idea why they have it .

Dorothy, I swear, you horse women, I don't know how you do it. A couple of summers ago when my neice was visiting we went on a trail ride (in the adk) and when I got off the horse I could barely walk and that was BEFORE my hip troubles. What's great about living in Burlington is that you see the mts across the lake every day. In the fall the mts change colors earlier and watching them is so beautiful, then when they are winding down, the color starts changing here. It is like having 2 for 1. ...and the cane? well I have no choice but to hang in there. I chuckled to myself when you said I had a good attitude. I feel ok today, but yesterday when I was "making myself" take an extra long walk, and went too far and my attitude on the way back was far from postitive :groan:...but then again, when I think of it, I recover from situations like that much quicker than I used to. Used to set me back days and today, though sore, I am still good to get on with things.

It is so great to hear you are doing better, Cathy! I'm betting you'll be able to ditch the cane fairly soon  I think I'll stick to carousel horses - it's been (subtracting in my head) .... a really long time since I was last on a real one. But I'm off this Friday to go attend my nephew's band's release party for their first full length CD ..... so I'll get to do some more boogying :egypdance:

Be careful! Many of those "free" sites will download malware to your computer. If you don't have anything to clean your computer, there's a program called Malwarebytes Antimalware that I highly recommend. You can find it at download.com and when you are installing it, one screen will have 3 check mark boxes. The top one, I think, wants you to try to pro version for free. Remove that check mark unless you want to pay for it in 30 days. This program is excellent for cleaning out baddies from your computer.

Hey Cathy, Just wanted to say a really big thank you to you and Ann Anniepops; for reminding me about the exercise ball and using it for the squats.

It was amazing, I loved doing them and it Sooooooo helped my sore hamstring and popped disc in my back.. I have been lazy about doing specific exercises and it felt so good.. thanks lovely ladies :)

p.s. Cathy... did I read that you find walking boring? If you could find someone to go NW with I believe you would find it fun... is this an activity that maybe you and your partner could do together? I know Cheryl is a workaholic though... :)

Hey Lynn, I actually do have malwarebytes on my computer, along with Nortons full package, but I thank you for the warning. I totally know what you are talking about with the free sites.

Sandy, I am glad you got your ball out. Even though I was also glad to be reminded of it also, I have not done them with the ball yet  and yes, I did say walking was boring haha. You have peeked my interest about the NW, so you never know. We live 3 blocks from a beautiful bike trail and that is something we do together along with the kayaking, but when the cold weather sets in and the kayaks are put away, I just might check out the NW.

Hope you are taking care of yourself this wknd with Your new issues

Thanks Cathy, amazing what a couple of days rest and my magical herbal rub does! Woke up this morning, no pain and the sun was shining... So, just finished a 5 k NW!

Love my herbal medicine when I cant take pain meds! Thanks for email xxx

Hello Cathy,
Speaking of penguins, you have to see the BBC's Frozen Planet. I hate any place I have to wear socks, but this (almost) inspired me to take a tour to the Antartic. The penguin shots and stories are amazing.
Cathy, it sounds like you are doing well, with less and less time on the cane. And you DO have a positive attitude. Even when you get grumpy with yourself, you seem to be able to chuckle.
Hugs,
Elle

Cathy, you have me thinking ... that's what you need to work those muscles in your butt and leg to strengthen them further--horseback riding! As you said, you discover muscles you never knew you had, lol. Seriously, it is super good exercise for balance, core strength, stretching, and strengthening. Before my hip replacements, it was the most painful thing in my world ... which was really sad because it is one of my favorite things to do in my world. But, it really does wake the body up in places no other activity or sport can. So, it's settled, you will find a good horseback riding instructor (must do this safely and find good instruction!) and begin today :-) :-)

Dorothy

Hi Cathy,

Catching up on threads after a visit to my daughter. You sound good. Know what you mean about the cane. Would love to lose mine but still need it a little. But those "good" things are happening where I forget where it is or realize I am in another room and don't have it. It will come all in good time, all in good time. Take care. You will have leaf peepers soon with the fall approaching!
