OK, you are making me hungry! I want some fresh blueberries and some peach jam ... and some of that great bread Alicia spoke of. Sounds perfect to me.

Cathy, I'm glad you are able to get out and do some fruit picking and canning. Isn't it a great feeling to be able to do it without your hip killing you with every step??????? Yes!!!

Dorothy

ann guess that means we are on the road to someday not needing that darn cane. Cannot wait for that day, and I know you are with me on that one

Dorothy, yes, it is nice to not be in pain every step of the way. Last year we went picking, but I don't remember hanging my cane on a branch. I think it was with me every step of the way at that point.

TWO HIPSTERS MEET [Bonesmart.org] New hip 3/7/12 Drove to Warren VT to meet up with djklaugh (Deb) today. Lovely person! We had a nice lunch at a health food store/cafe. Yes, we did take a pic but you'll have to wait till she gets home from her trip. She is having a fabulous time btw.

Happy Monday everybody (Tuesday to you sandy)

I sure am having a great time - and it was a very special part of my trip to meet you Cathy! Lovely lady right back at you!! I am so very glad we were able to meet up - and enjoy that great lunch :) I promise to post the pictures as soon as I can - hip bumps and grins included

BIG DOINS ! Went to Kmart yesterday (not the big DOINS haha) and left the cane in the car, YOU HEARD ME :yay: left the cane in the car!

Walked around, went to the back of the store, concentrated on keeping my pelvis straight as I could, concentrated on walking correctly and my hip was strong enough to do it. Went to Lowes after and took the cane. Did not want to get carried away. I think this going back to the pool thing, mixing things up is working. Best of all it gave me hope that yes, some darn day I will not need the cane at all.

Cathy,

Great point about "mixing it up". The best of exercises only gets some of the muscles....but a little of this... a little of that...goes a long way.

Now, having said that, I bet there are some martial arts or Tai Chi or Yoga which might be a pretty well self contained (complete) workout. And I'll throw in a plug for soccer (football) as being one heck of a thorough hip workout. There may not be any movements with your leg (hip) that don't happen a fair amount in typical run of the mill soccer activities...

Glad you had that success!

Z

Hi Cathy,

What excellent news on your walk without the cane!!!! It must have been a big confidence boost :yes!:

Mixing it up is good as well as the gift of time & your continued healing (blueberries probably helped too....:heehee:)

Take care,
Cardie

WOW Good Job. I guess this mean you aren't going to ride the cart any more! Just joking. This is great I am so happy for you. There is no stopping you now. Have a good week. :puppysmooze:Tashia:bicycle1:

Wow, Cathy! I am just catching up with posts and I have just ready your MARVELOUS news about being a KMart Shopper WITHOUT a cane! This is wonderful and you were so wise to take the cane to Lowes. (As opposed to showing off and being sorry, as I could see myself doing!) YAY! This is really a major accomplishement, oh Caneless Wonder! And I am with Cardie on this: eat more blueberries!

Oh, that is SO fantastic you got to meet up with djklaugh! AND at one of those wonderful Vermont health food cafes! I would love to be able to do that with you all! Cyberspace is such a blessing, but it does want for the warmth in a friend's eyes and a shared piece of fresh berry chessecake. Sigh.

Wishing you a lovely weekend,
Elle

Elle, thanks for your note. Yes, it would be lovely to be able to meet up wouldn't it? We have company again YIPEE. 2 very good friends from where we used to live. We are having a lovely time. After they leave, we will have 4 days to regroup and my brother and his family will be coming for 9 days. Thank goodness my body is now cooperating at a different level now, though I have to be careful to not overdue.. After a long lonely recovery winter, I will take all the company we can get, I love it, Cathy

Just a quick hello to all my hippy friends. Don't have too much time to get to your pages, will catch up when I can. More company at our house for a long wknd last wknd and today my bro and his family are arriving for a week. Have been loving all the company this summer AND am looking forward to OUR vacation in August. All this fun can be exausting

Hope everybody is doing ok
Cathy

Wow, Girl! Fantastic progress... and how courageous of you - without the cane! "One step at a time" - sounds like you took SEVERAL.

And, how great that you met a fellow "hippy!" I would love that... someone come to Sarasota! :)

Enjoy your company, family, fellowship, and continual healing.

Alicia

What a party girl you have become Cathy!

Great to see you catching up on life and congrats with going cane less... It will happen... Slow and steady babe :)

Hey everybody, I missed all of you. Have a week off from company and getting ready for our vacation next week. Whew, like I said, all this fun is exausting. In reality I am doing pretty darn good. Going about 7 miles at a time on my bike (ready to increase but have not had time with all this company), lots of walking around Montreal and here while my brother and family were visiting, down at the beach walking without my cane, (though walking on sand wakes up my muscles big time) lots more trips here and there without the cane (still use for longer distance. A little over 5 months now, hard to believe.

I am looking forward to my vacation next week. This years will be a lot less painful than last year. The place we rent is right on the water in a gorgeous setting. Swim, kayak, enjoy the perseid meteor showers at night and have some much needed time with, as Sandy says, my SO. When i return I need to get back to more specific exercising and a more consistent workout routine so I can lose this extra weight I put on through all this hip shenanigans. It will only help me get rid of this cane for good.

Now I need to bop around and see how you are all doing, Cathy

Well, Cathy, it's obvious with all your comings and goings that the hip is just getting better and better. The day is coming when you will actually not think about it at all. Happy for you things are going so well, that you've been having fun with all your company and are a good tired as a result----and now a vacation. WOW! Have a great time---with no pain.

Great that you are enjoying yourself..... the vacation sounds MARVELOUS. What a description..... NICE! Take care.

Alicia

Hey Cathy

Great update. You sound good. Seven miles at a time on your bike is wonderful! I know, I know, you want to do 30... :)

Enjoy your vacation. Have fun.

Suki

Hi Cathy,
So good to have an update! It sounds like you had a wonderful time with your visitors and could really keep up with them! The cane seems to be less and less in the picture as well-YAY!

Oh your upcoming vaction sounds divine...don't know waht perseid meteror showers are, but I am sure they must be lovely.

Take gentle care,

Elle
