Hey Cathy, how's it going?

Pleased to hear you sounding so upbeat, seems like things are going great :thumb:

Have you got that exercise ball out yet? Lol.

Take care

Ann.x.

We live 3 blocks from a beautiful bike trail and that is something we do together along with the kayaking, but when the cold weather sets in and the kayaks are put away, I just might check out the NW.

Hi Cathy,

I think in your neck of the woods this is called cross country skiing...:heehee:

Hope you are doing well,
Cardie

Cathy,
I went kayak-ing for the first time last Monday. I have no idea why it took me all these years to try it, but I AM HOOKED! What great exercise! I felt so refreshed, and not too sore in the upper body the next day at all. Going again tomorrow and Wednesday.

Hugs.

Alicia

Hi Cathy,

Just sent pm to you and Dorothy. Will catch up on posts soon.

Hey all, just been checking in on others but have not posted myself in a while. This is just a quickie to say I am driving to Syracuse today (where I moved from) to spend time with my friends and have them help me remember just who I really am, in spite of this recovery. I plan on filling up with lots of love and affirmations that I AM NOTJUST THIS HIP STUFF!! Good plan right? ...thought so :)

Might even see Diane/and or/ Dorothy. Back at ya later gators, take care and remember, we'll all get to where we want to be eventually so keep on Hangin in.

I'm excited about meeting Cathy!!! We talked on the phone and had a nice chat. (I think I'm going to hide a cat or dog in her car, since I have so many and she told me she has none! :-) ) Oh wait ... Lucy says no deal ... well, the boss has spoken :-)

Dorothy

Very funny Dorothy, but you leave those pets at home :)

...and Ann, I did finally get that ball out, but for some reason it did not work well for me. Seemed to put too much pressure on my knees or something cuz I end up being on an angle.

Also very funny to you cardie, on your cross country skiing comment, made me chuckle out loud.

Thanks for checking in on me sandy.

And by the way, I did good on the 5 hour drive. When I think of bs (before surgery) much much better indeed.

Have fun you three :)

Well done on the 5 hour drive Cathy!

Of course we are going to need some photos?

Hey Cathy
Just dropping in to see how you are doing. Good, from the sounds of it! I would love a 5 hour drive in New England now!

Finally saw your "Marigold Hotel" fim whihc was wonderful. I so much prefer British film to Hollywood. (See Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, another Brit goodie). Hey, but back to Marigold...weren't you weirded out by the fct the lady with the THR was in a wheelchair? I kept thinking, "This is unrealistic. This woman needs PT!!"

Keep well!

Hugs

Hi Cathy,

I've forgotten what you are trying to accomplish with the ball -- maybe it was back in someone else's thread. If it is squats, why don't you do something simple like hold on to the counter top and lower yourself down? Like this gal, only actually with your hands on the counter's edge:

Would that help, or are you doing something more elaborate?

Hope you got to get together with Dorothy & Diane :) You've gotten to meet lots of the BS hippies!
Take care,
Cardie

Cathy.... thanks for checking in on me, and you are on the road, girl! Can't wait to hear of your adventure and meeting of other BS members!

Re: Politics.... I am definitely a Dem, but I am SO frustrated money-wise, and I deal predominantly with very wealthy people down here who are not spending their money on their precious pets because they fear they are losing more money (these people have MORE money than you know who!). Don't worry about my vote; I don't like how the "other man" feels about women's rights.... HUGE in my book.

Sending healthy and good wishes and thoughts your way!

Alicia

Just read your comment of "I am not just about this hip stuff".... you're not! It doesn't have to be our only conversation with the outside world (Thank God we have Bonesmart), and if you are anything like me, it is day to day. Each day is different. As my hip as healed, now I'm concerned about my knees which have been "crackling" for years.

You are MUCH MORE OF A PERSON than just your hip. You are obviously a very lovely person, educated, well mannered, caring, thoughtful.... these are just a few traits I gleen from you... and a great sense of humor.

Hugs to you.

(Do you know how I can change my title of my thread as Jo suggested? I have looked and looked.... don't want to irritate her!)

Staff comment: adaflorida, one of the staff has to change your thread title, so if you'll just post in your thread what you'd like it to be, we'll take care of it. And, hon.....you are never, ever going to irritate Jo or any of us by asking for help!!! That's what we're here for!!!

Yoohoo Cathy, pleased to read on Dorothys thread that you both had a lovely time when you met up. :)

I know what you mean about your knees hurting whilst doing the squats with the ball, mine did too and I had to really concentrate on which way they were going during the squats. Perhaps you could try tiny little squats at first when you are ready to try again.

Cardie, not sure what we are trying to accomplish with the ball.lol. Just told to do it by PT and had read on here squats are a good exercise to do so I do them.lol.

Take care Cathy

Oh and ada, only the mods can change thread titles so you need to give one of them a shout :)

Actually thinking of changing mine too, need to think of the new one first though :)

Howdy gang, had a great time in Syracuse. Felt like I really got away from my hip (not physically of course). I was there 5 days and I only used my cane 2x on walks. Frustrating that I still can only get a half mile without it, but I am focusing on all the things I CAN do. Got a kayak in while I was there and even got some pool pt in at another friends house. I was really pleased with how well I did over all with staying at a couple different houses, different beds, not really stretching out like i should have etc. I really felt like I had turned another corner a week or two ago. The corners are not as big, but I can still tell when I turn one. I feel a little bit further on my road to feeling more of what my new normal will be. ...and my friends all gave me lots of love and support and it really did help me gain a bit of confidence back. adaflorida thanks for your sweet words. I know I am more than my hip, I just needed help remembering and I knew where to go to get that help.

Anniepops C Mac I have been doing squats and it has been going ok. I am doing nothing elaborate. I do them with a chair behind me so i know to not go lower than is comfortable. Then someone mentioned doing it with the ball and that sounded like it might make it easier (supporting the back more) but for me, it did not. It actually seemed to put more pressure on my knees. I think Sandy tried it and liked it more with the ball. That's how the whole squat discussion started. By the way Poppet thanks for keeping tabs on me (and all of us for that matter)

Elle11 glad you saw the movie, and yes, the wheel chair was unrealistic, but they had to make sure people knew she was Ill, it's hollywood :tada: If you want another interesting movie, try "departures". Starts out kind of odd but a really beautiful story.

It was lovely meeting Dorothy. Great woman, we got along right away [Bonesmart.org] New hip 3/7/12 and wouldn't ya know it, she had a horse t-shirt on :) I figured after making people listen to me and all my canning, the least I could do was bring her some right? Actually, while i was there i got a great deal at the market on some tomatillos and canned some salsa verde today as a matter of fact. Ok, I'll stop haha.

First I met Deb, now Dorothy, when I go back in Oct. maybe Diane - I am working my way around, watch out, I might be coming to meet you next

Great update Cathy, so pleased you had a nurturing time with you friends...

Excellent update, Cathy! I'm so glad you had a fun trip to see your friends :) Keep turning those corners - you're doing terrific! Just two months ago you were using the cane almost all the time - now it's only 2x after some vigorous walking.

You hoo! Cathy.. Love your photo on Deb's thread..
