Revision TKR Never give up, keep trying, don't settle - that's me, Bonnie

Wow, Bonnie, I cannot believe what you are going through. I have not heard of that at all. I'm due to go back for my second knee's one year anniversary and was anxious to ask about the chocking feel but in no way do I want to do anything further. I may just wait it out. I hope you get some answers and relief soon.

Bonnie, I am so sorry you are going through this. I have no input for you other than I'm thinking about and hope you get some answers and relief soon. Have you tagged Mary? Other than Josephine, I have never heard anyone talk about CRPS.

Keep us posted.

Hugs, Dorothy

Bonnie,
Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. Please take good care and please follow the Bonesmart mantra!

I had hoped that your absence meant things were going well, so sorry to hear otherwise.

I don't know anything about CRPS so I won't comment. I will say that I too had extensive scar tissue that my doc said was like a wall and was everywhere. I did very little the first 2-3 weeks except for gentle stretches, heel slides and mainly rest. I iced and iced, used the compression hose with the foot cut out. The point is, try not to worry too much about a lack activity and motion. Also, don't let the CPM fool you, the readings are not always accurate and thinking you are getting 120 is very unlikely while on the machine because of how it's set up, the position of you leg, etc. don't let the numbers drive you just yet, there is time to deal with that.

I will tag a few others in hopes that someone will be able to comment and assist. In the meantime, know that we care and are all here for support!

Bonnie, I also used compression hose when I first had my surgery done. it took a long time for that to settle down, I was depressed enough that I just sat there reading mysteries day after day.

Let me be clear...I have not been tested or evaluated yet for CRPS. My doctor threw that out at me Tuesday because of the high pain symptoms I had been continuing to have. In reading about it, it sounds scary, although some of my symptoms matched up, not all of them did. I certainly don't want a nerve block if I don't have to have one. Pain has actually eased up on me some today, and according to symptoms it is supposed to get worse.

Bonnie, I'm so sorry that you're having such a hard time with pain. I do hope that you and your OS can find something to help.

Best wishes!

Kelly, I wore them for one week, that's all till they told me I didn't have to. Instead of reading mysteries, I've been watching HGTV, ALL DAY LONG!

CRPS is a rather difficult diagnosis to make. It used to be referred to as a diagnosis of "exclusion" meaning that all other diagnoses needed to be ruled out be for CRPS was even considered. However, more recently this syndrome has been given more weight in the medical community as a real entity that can lead to significantly disability to patients.

I sincerely hope that this problem you are facing resolves soon and that you can start to take your life back.

Orthodoc, funny that you say it is usally a last resort because my OS told me, "If you have the nerve block then it goes away, we'll know what it was. If however if the nerve block did not take care of it then we'd look in other places." Each day since Wednesday I have been feeling better. Actually slept pretty well last night, no pain pills. My walking feels pretty normal to me, not sure how it looks to others. But...I know with out a doubt that I am walking better than I did with the scar tissue. I did not use the CPM yesterday, I iced on and off and put my feet up, I know that rest is helping. I can tell you this, I am not buying into CRPS at this point, I am not even going to go see those doctors about it!

I think you are following the path that I followed. I just could not believe that I had that much pain--but i also had "extensive" scarring.

I have not used the CPM for 4 days. I have taken it easier. Feet up, compression icing on and off. Heated up my knee a bit ago, then did heel slides, then wall slides. Since I can't measure my ROM I thought I would see if I could pedal my bike (which I have on a trainer in the house) to get an idea of ROM. I was able to pedal forward and backwards albeit slowly and cautiously not forcing anything. Just a couple minutes of that and now icing...I don't want to make my knee angry again! Last Thursday I could only get 95 degrees and that was work. So I am making progress!!

I am so glad. It is frustrating to us who are active to realize that we have to slow down to make the knee better!!

Bonnie, glad you're feeling better and that your ROM is improving.

Bonnie, glad to hear that you are improving and feeling better each day. Take it easy and don't do any running for a long time :). I have my one year check up on my second knee Oct. 1.

Bonnie, I liked the pedaling because it is something easy on the joint that I could do a lot of without getting bored(especialluy once I got on a real bike on level foot paths) and it definitly seems to improve flexion at least up to the limits for cycling which I assume is between 90/95 and 110/120 depending on seat height. I still have a little heat in my joint after 4 1/2 months and hope it goes away. I dont beleive it has any thing to do with cycling because I took two weeks off cycling for the first time in four months and the warmth in the knee did not go away. I think the warmth is just part of healing and a result of day to day use (walking, lifting etc).

All the best.

Cflower, Oh please believe me, I am not running anyhere. I have trouble walking around the grocery store for too long. You know how big our HEB's are here. If I start on one end get then to the other side and realize I forgot something, I won't even walk back to where I started. Baby steps is what I am doing now.
