Revision TKR Never give up, keep trying, don't settle - that's me, Bonnie

Dorothy, we are having a pool builder out on Thursday and one on Saturday. We are getting several companies to bid and design. A big cost like that, you can't jump too fast. But yes, after surgery I'll have September for sure to help rehab in a pool.

Bonnie, what a great report. Isn't it funny that you're actually excited for surgery?

Just getting answers and hope for better days will take you quite far from the dark days you've had recently. Please remember that you need to control swelling this time around. The CPM is great for keeping things moving, and I was happy to have mine at home after surgery too. Please control the urge to push to hard to fast. I know you want to get back to your life; just know that it will be there when you arrive.

Something else that helped me after my revision, was pt was doing lymphatic massage. That was very helpful for the swelling. You should also get massage to help elongate those contracted muscles. Just not sure when to sprinkle that in, but it will help.

I look forward to the post with your surgery date! Congrats!

Kool-aide smiles all around!!

Bonnie, as you know, I also had a "Lysis of Adhesions" and I have been happy with the result. I was cautioned so many times by my OS that he wanted movement, but GENTLE movement on the knee. He advised me that if I tried to exercise or stress an inflamed, hot knee, it would contribute to the growth of more scar tissue. I found the recovery very difficult because I was allowed to do very little but gentle stretching for almost 8 weeks, but I have been very happy with the result. I am glad that you have found a solution to the problem. Kelly

skigirl Kelly, please tell me what you actually did as far as exercise, and stretching. I am determined to get this right this time!

I saw my family physician yesterday for blood work and EKG for surgery clearance. Got results today that I am in great health so now my new doctor has the clearance to schedule me for surgery. Guess ill hear from them Monday or Tuesday...if not I will be calling!

Bonnie, I did a lot of heel slides, patella mobilizations, clam shells, bending in a rocker---just the usual stuff. I did everything gently and spent a lot of time on the couch reading. I think I read about 20 books!!! After three weeks I started back to pt and did a lot of leg lifts, clam shells and stuff on the table for the another five weeks. At eight weeks I began to do strength training.----and I was weak then too!!

Four more days till I get my surgery!!' Hooray!! Wednesday August 21st is the day I get my RTKR scoped to cut out all the scar tissue. OMG, it could not come soon enough, I've been miserable. Because of lack of ROM in my TKR leg and lots of muscle atrophy, my good side/leg is really taking the punishment. For weeks now my hip has been aching, my (good) knee has started hurting now and I am fighting off the beginning of plantar fasciitis in my left foot! All because my left leg compensates for what the right can't do.

I've paid my co-pays, money to rent the CPM FOR 15 days, a leg brace and an ice machine. I'll have at least one overnight stay at the hospital. Check in time is 6 am, surgery at 8 am on Wednesday. I sure hope this does it for me this time. Whatever the doctor wants me to do, I am doing it to the letter! I must get this right !!!

Hi Bonnie, (Sherry, your words with friend friend) I haven't been around much lately. First, your daughter is a beautiful bride and I bet that was a lot of fun. We just came back from Blue Mountain Beach in June. I didn't know you were having trouble with your knee. I came to your store back last year and talked to you. I still have the really tight feeling in both legs that wraps around the leg and stays all the time. Is that necessarily scar tissue in my case. One leg is a year other will be year in October. I can ride a bide though and just got a cool new step through that I do not have to throw my leg over a bar. It's 6" off the ground.

I'm interested in seeing how your surgery go. If they remove scar tissue, what keeps it from growing back?

As far as your pool, have you check with Iguana Pools in Spring. They did ours about 7 years ago. They are really nice to work with (Ivel and Jamie his wife). If you need to look at one of their pools you can surely come by my house and take a look. After about 8 bids from other companies we chose them.

Glad to hear your husband is better. I didn't realize you have been going through so much. Let me know when you go to hospital.

My twin is ready to do a knee and I wished I could be more positive for her.

Good luck with your surgery.

Cflower, Hi Sherry, of course I remember you! I can tell you that there has never been a day since my RTKR in 2011 that I have not had that TIGHT BAND feeling around my knee. It has ALWAYS been there, it is just worse now. As far as scar tissue growing back, the doctor will cauterize it, then keep my leg in continual motion. Over night stay in the hospital after a scope is unusual but the doc wants to keep the knee moving. Then I have the CPM for 15 days and I have to do a number of hours each day. (Guess I'll watch lots of movies, or better yet spend time on Bonesmart). He wants in a PT on day 4 which is really day 5 because day 4 is a Sunday. There are never any guarantees but with cauterizing and lots of motion is a good deterrent for scar tissue. I talked with one of his patients at length who had the same done for her. She is doing great. I will be at Methodist Hospital in the Houston Medical Center come 6 am Wednesday morning.

Forgot to mention that when I wake up in the hospital Thursday the 22nd, it will be our 43rd wedding anniversary. I married my high school sweetheart at the age of 18, back in 1970!

Surgery in the morning, hoping that the 3rd time is a charm. I'll check in from the other side tomorrow...yet again!

I know you have to do plenty of CPM, you may be able to learn to sleep at night with it on which will take care of a good 8 hours of your daily quota. I used to sleep with it when I was in the nursing facility post op but of course I was also on 20 mg of hydrocodone every 4 hours.

I wish you the best and I know you will be back to running. I hope u will also have time for biking as that can really work on your flexion range especially if u lower your seat on level easy stretches for perhaps a mile or two.
Just a thought.

Bonnie, best of luck today and all good wishes for a smooth surgery! We will be waiting for you when your able to post! Be well, Dawn

Knee is all done and they let me come home today afterall. I am hooked up to a catheter of Lidocane to keep my leg numb thru Saturday, have to wear a knee brace anytime I walk with crutches since I can't even feel my leg. And of course those tight socks on both legs that we all love to hate!. I didn't talk to the doctor myself afterwards but he told my husband Dave, "I cut and cut and cut and cut, massive scar I've already walked weight bearing with crutches and have been about 4 hours in the CPM. This just goes to show us all...we know our own body better than anyone else and I knew that my knee was not right for months. When I would ask my surgeon that did my TRK if my tight painful knee and loss of ROM could be scar tissue. He would just dismiss me each time and say, "That is HIGHLY UNLIKELY." So please, always if you feel that things are just not right then go for that second opinion.
