Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

That's wonderful, Janet. Prednisolone surely is a miracle cure. Hope it lasts for you.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I hope it lasts too Jo. But for now, I think I've got my ducks in a row, seeing the Rheumatologist in two weeks as well as a follow up with the OS. Just took 2 tylenol as I have been really working this leg. Am sore, but not the inflammation sore.

I just feel like at least 10 years have left me, that I was getting old really fast. I feel lighter, painfree and happy :prayer1:!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi all. Just thought I'd give another update. I honestly can't believe it, but I am feeling soooo good! I forgot what it was like to not be in constant pain. I am on the remaining few Prednisone tablets, one tomorrow and one Monday and I am done.

I didn't really get the hungry horrors from the drug, but I did get the big ol' "moon face". I have to laugh though, not a wrinkle to be found! Boy, now I can begin to live my life with my year old hip. Of course, I have overdone it a few times and gave myself a scare that the thigh pain had returned. But I'm fine.

So needless to say, I haven 't been just sitting at my laptop. I just got my life given back to me so I am livin' :yahoo:!!! I hope this miracle drug continues to work. I am following up this week with a Rheumatologist and see the OS next week.

Thanks for being there with me every pianful step of the way. Don't know what I would have done without you wonderful people and BoneSmart! I will continue to give updates. :wub2::grouphug2::ThankYou:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Janet,
I'm so pleased to hear you are still feeling great and doing all those things you would have been able to do before, had you not been in so much pain.

Is it on Thursday you see the Rhuematologist?
I haven't a clue about the life of Prednisone in your body, but would presume that by Thursday you will know how you feel when you don't take it, so hopefully, if you need it, the Rhuematologist will put you on a regular course?

As you said a few posts back, it's so good to know that there is something to alleviate the pain you have been suffering.
But I also think that getting your life back over the last couple of weeks and being able to forget the pain will also go a long way to speeding your recovery.:thumb:

Good to hear such a great report! :yay:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So good to hear you are still pain free Janet! Wiil they give you something else to keep you moving or is this drug supposed to have lasting effects? In any case, fingers crossed for you!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Janet,
happy to read that you have finally gotten relief after all your suffering. Did the doctor suggest what will happen after you stop the prednisone, any other medication? Good luck with the rheumatologist, and we'll pray that your pain free life will continue.

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I honestly on't know what lies ahead, as I have never seen a Rheumatologist before, but glad I got to trial the prednisone before the fact. And the follow up with the OS remains a mystery as well. Have no idea what the next plan will be.

I have to admit though, I feel more "something" on the lower dose of Pred than I did on the higher, so only time will tell about any long term lasting effects. I also think the steriods give you more of a mental high.

I do know a lot of what ever it is I'm feeling is not pain, just muscles being used for the first time in a loonnngggg time. So that's not concerning at all.

But, now I have a satrting point. My last PT wondered if there might be something systemic going on with me, and not just the THR, and he could be right. I'm sre all the labs done this coming week will be an indicator.

That's ok, if somthing's broke, we'll fix it. I know I've had real pain, and now I don't so there is something that can be done. I have HOPE!

Sorry Suzie, the appointment with Dr. Gupta is on Thursday (Rheumatologist) and the OS, Dr. Sledge on Friday. Perfect timing!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hope all goes well with the Rheumatologist today Janet. :thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you so much for thinking of me Suzie! I promise to give an update when I return. Probably won't have any answers though until he gets lab results.

Fingers crossed. The prednisone only worked in the higher doses and I'm back to where I was before that. Hurting even worse as I have not got back on the NSAID yet. He's my last resort, but who knows? He may have the answer!

Like I said, I am HOPEFUL!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sorry the pain is back. :sigh:

But he may well have the answer.
So HOPEFUL too. :thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

It's worn off already? Oh brother, that is not fair. I thought you'd have had a better run than that. (((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Unfortunately, NO! I was on 12 days of 6,6,5,5,4,4,3,3,2,2,1,1. I felt like Wonder Woman for 6 days, and as soon as I got to the halfway point, BAM! It creeped right back. I see the new OS tomorrow.

The good news is...I LOVE Dr. Gupta! He just explained so much to me and i think he may have an answer! my thigh has a pretty long scar/incision from being operated on twice in such a short period of time (2 weeks).

He feels the nerves/vessels are short circuited for lack of a better term. Whn the were first cut and started to heal, they were cut again and this got their signlas all messed up. SO they are still in battle mode, but he thinks thy will calm down.

He was amazed at my knowledge of my body/medicine in general, and was extremely opn to everything I had to say. Knew right off the bat that I wasn't just looking for meds, but that i wanted answers.

All my labs are so current and thorough that he didn't order any for the time being, and wants me to try Neurontin and Tramadol to see if that combo will calm things down. Everything he said made so much sense.

And of course I had to spread th word again about BoneSmart :wink1:!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Dr Gupta sounds great! :wub2:
I do hope he has found the cause and a solution to your pain.

On a side note, what he said makes me wonder. I had an op go wrong a few years ago and when they found the reason I needed another op in a similar place.
This would mean cutting across the original scar and the (new) surgeon decided he wanted to wait until the scar tissue had settled down before putting me under the knife again - over 3 months.
It was a long and frustrating wait, but reading this, I'm glad he did.

Hope your visit to your new OS goes well today.:thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Well, here's the latest. My OS, Dr. Sledge, is so excited he couldn't contain himself! He said the way I responded to the steroid is making him think "back" and not "hip"! Just coincidental!

I had already had a lumbar disk surgery when in my early thirties, and he is thinking more on the lines of the stenosis/disk problem now. I have an MRI scheduled for July 19th now.

But, he was ecstatic by the results. SO, I am going to think positive from here on out. You know, my hip has felt fine all along, but the thigh pain has been so unexplainable and debilitating. Who knew?

He agreed with Dr. Gupta to a point, but feels strongly now that we have been looking in the wrong area.

Well, as long as I keep them all involved I think I'm going to get the answer!

:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:Better days ARE comin'!

See, when you hear hoof prints, it's not necessarily horses !

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Well I am not sure I should cheer or cry Janet! I HATE for anyone to suffer back problems. But I guess it's good news you have another area to look at. Certainly your hip surgery could have aggravated any back issues (she says from painfull experience).

Have you ever had a lumbar epidural? My first one worked for about a year - but that was after the spinal decompression.

Great that you can get an MRI very quickly. Please keep us updated!

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

So....
If you take what Dr Gupta said about scar pain and can take the meds for that....
And listen to what your new OS says about it being your back (and noting that he was ecstatic)....
Plus take into account the MRI very soon....
YES - Janet, you could well be onto a winner!

But make sure you get the meds to deal with the pain (although by now I'm sure you will be insistent on that).
Answers are good, especially if they are the correct ones, but pain solutions following those answers are a must.

Glad you are happy with the result of your visit.:thumb:

Re: Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Hi Janet

You so deserve more than has been given to you, a pain-free life particularly. An MRI scheduled for the 19th is quick indeed and I hope they find an answer for the reasons why you have been in so much pain and thereafter appropriate treatment. Light at the end of the tunnel!
