Re: This is my story

Hi Janet,

If they're right (?) and everyone truly hopes they are! This may be the first little glimmer of the end of the dark and long tunnel.....

Re: This is my story

There is no date as of yet Jaycey. Yesterday I had the Bone and CT scans from the local hospital (from my hospitalization this summer) sent to him for review. He may not have them until the end of week. He wants to review those first.

I hope it is done ASAP as I desperately need to find out if it is the wires that have been causing the problems. There sure are plenty of them in there if you look at the films in this thread, 7!

Then he will tackle the knee problem. So, I am glad that I returned, even if we were in battle mode with each other. Hey, it was his own fault that I left. I knew I was in the best place for treatment, but he dropped the ball BIG TIME where I was concerned!

Seems like he grew up a lot since I had seen him last. I hope he also learned a lot. As I said, I know accidents happen, and I do have tiny bones, but I have suffered tremendously and got no answers from him! I had every right to look elsewhere, and in the end , it brought me full circle!

In the overall scheme of theings, if he can fix me once and for all, that is all I want.

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet,

I hope that the removal of the wire goes smoothly and is the answer to your hip and leg pain. Also hope they can get to the bottom of the knee problem too. You have so much support here from your BS friends and we are waiting to see you be able to get up from the recliner and have some pain free fun!! :yes 4:

Take care,
Cardie

Re: This is my story

Me too Donna. Unfortunately it's been a week since I cut back to 20mg Prednisone, from 30, and the thigh pain has been almost unbearable for the last two days. I have to call the Rheumatologist about it tomorrow. I have no idea why this is happening.

When the OS asked me if I noticed any difference with the thigh pain while on the Prednisone, I didn't think there was much. Now, since a few more days on less of it, there is significantly more pain! I must call him tomorrow as well.

Somebody has got to figure this out. I can't explain how bad this is...

Re: This is my story

Sorry that you are back in severe pain, Janet. But I am glad that you have a positive option with the day surgery. I hope it is the answer.

Re: This is my story

Glad to hear you are getting some positive action at last.

Forgive me asking what is perhaps a very stupid question... but I'm intrigued.

What is the purpose of the wires exactly? Have they achieved whatever it was they were put in to do?

I was thrust rather unceremoniously into the world of hip replacement, and have learnt quite a lot, but I've never heard of the wires before.

Re: This is my story

I sufferd a fractured femur after my THR (probably happened and was missed during the surgery) and had to have a revision 2 1/2 weeks later. The inner trochanter or top of the bone was broken off in a "V" shape so they used seven circlage wires to reattach the bone.

If you click on the attachment before you open this thread you can see all the wires in the scan.

Re: This is my story

Hi there Janet,

I haven't been on "Bonesmart" too often in the past couple weeks because I've been working, and trying I suppose to keep my mind off of this old problem hip of mine. My Doc and I have spoken many times since Octs. revision about a 6th surgery, but to be perfertly honest I've pretty much told him I don't even want to think or talk about it any further until I allow it all to sink in a bit more.

In a million years I would have never expected such a complex and crazy two years with this hip... but life can certianly throw some curve balls, as you well know.

I read your update from your appointment with your first OS that did the first surgery.. and I'm sorry in a way that he wasn't able to give you a definative answer to the ongoing problems your having and have had to endure for so long now. I'm hoping that removing the wires will help you, I knew two days after they removed all the wires around my femur and GT that it wasn't the problem causing all that was going on in my hip. However, I've talked to many patients that did have problems with the wires catching and causing a good amount of pain and once they were taken out they did great. So I'm praying and hoping you will be one of those that do wonderful after they are removed.

You mentioned that you are picking up the films bone scan and such from the hospital that did them last... were any of these test done after you fell in Sept? If not, I don't understand why he wouldn't order new since you fell after the bone scan and CT scan... I know I may have misread it, but I hope they are doing a new bone scan if they haven't ordred it before he goes in and removes those wires. I'm truly hoping that the films your picking up are some that you just had done since you've seen the OS and after the fall.

Anyway, I just wanted to stop in and say hello, and I've been thinking of you a lot. I continue to send prayers your way, I know you've been through a lot! Peace

Re: This is my story

I am hoping removing those wires does it for you, continued pain is so draining. Hope you get a date soon. Saying prayers for you.

Re: This is my story

SL, he didn't order a new bone scan, felt the xrays would have showed anything significant, wasn't really concerned. He is checking the scans from the summer as he is very concerned about my knees and wants to see what is up with them as well, as these scans are from when I was hospitalized. He plans on getting fluid samples as well.

I was waiting for the Rheumatologist to call back yesterday as the pain became so severe in the back/underside of mt thigh Wednesday nite that I had to go back up to a third prednisone. Seems like as soon as I cut back to 20mg for a few days I am in TERRIBLE pain again.

Needless tosay, I never got a call. When I hear from him today, I then will call the OS and let him know. The plan was to lower the Prednisone and increase the Cymbalta, but I need to show these three docs what happens when I decrease the prednisone first. Prednisone works on inflammation.

I do believe now that whatever I injured when I fell was soft tissue damage and has healed. This ongoing thigh/femur pain has no sign of lessening and in fact has gotten worse.

I definately will try the wire removal first as it is day surgery and an easier fix if it in fact works. Fingers crossed at this point. Perhaps after his review of the scans he will want a new one for comparison anyway. He should have them today if the local hospital sent them out on Monday, but they may not have gone out until Tuesday as it was later in the day when I got back from Boston and called for them. Monday for sure.

Thanks for your thoughts. Hope you are having some relief.....can't say I blame you for not jumping into yet another surgery... :friends:

Re: This is my story

Today I have that terrible aching pain in the center/ back of my thigh again. Is that a particular muscle or something @Josephine: . I just can't get relief from it no matter what I try. It went away over night on Wednesday, but is back with a vengeance today after putting up the Christmas window candles .

Icing, pain meds, nothing is working today...

Re: This is my story

Perhaps you've stretched a hamstring, Janet. That's what you can do when reaching up to do things, maybe standing on tip-toe?

Re: This is my story

Not that I remember. This is "constant" when I am walking, but it has gone from the front to the back. It still seems to be right where the tip of the stem hits. It just sort of radiates mid thigh. It is enough to drive me mad. Sitting on ice helped it a few weeks ago, but not anymore...

Re: This is my story

Just dropping by as I always do, I don't always post for you Janet because I just don't know what I can say.....there's nothing I can say that will take your horrible pain away or make you feel better.

I really feel for you, you don't deserve it and I hope you get some relief soon. Sorry I can't help but you are in my thoughts :friends:

Re: This is my story

Hi Janet, like Lisa I feel a bit frustrated and helpless and unsure what to say (an unusual state of affairs I can assure you).

But thinking of you and sending you good vibes.
