THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

Hi everybody 'happy hump day ' as they say around these parts:wave:

I could do with getting away as I'm feeling quite down Mainly from pain in my hip and shoulder, I'm exhausted and I know I've not slept well for weeks now, which is making me quite tearful
I have another date for the 16th of October and until I wake up from that up I think I will continue to worry that it will be cancelled. I think I need to try and change my mindset .
I'm off work this week as I cannot distance myself from the physical and emotional pain :boohoo:. It's not entirely professional crying about patients situations constantly is it ?:scare:
I'll get through this ,I know I will, but I think I just need to be kind to myself.

My new recliner came yesterday and it is lovely and comfortable but too low for me despite me checking the seat height measurements - However hubby is going to raise it on a plinth a couple of inches so I can get out of it safely after my operation. It was great fun watching everybody try to play 'sofa and chair Tetris' in order to fit it into the lounge! We now look like a waiting room rather than a cosy home but hey! it means at least we can all sit together now for a longer time !
So @ahipgma you asked about plans ahead of surgery and to be honest I don't have any. I've had to stop swimming as I caught swimmers ear ( you couldn't make this up!) I guess I'm just going to take each half day as it comes and try and avoid plans might go awry ! I know I need a haircut and another pedicure and to continue walking as much as I can. Oh and chocolate I feel chocolate is compulsory at this stage !
it is such a strange time in my life and I know I look back and All will be well But thanks to everyone here I know I'll be supported I am presuming it's normal behaviour ?!
How are you feeling with your dental health?
@ChrissyW I hope your OFSTED is going well?

It's cup of tea o'clock now so I'll pop back later :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

Aww, Mayhip....I'm so sorry. Chronic pain and sleep deprivation suck the energy right out of us and steal our joy. It can make us feel irritable, head achey, unmotivated and plain old moody.

I understand your uneasiness in regard to your surgery actually happening. After two cancelations it seems normal to feel that way. But the possibility of another cancelation doesn't seem likely. So with only one week to go, it's looking like relief is in sight.

It's good your recliner arrived and you're finding it comfy. Once hubby raises it, maybe you can catch a few naps in it, wearing it in a bit before next week.

I'll bet a haircut, pedicure and of course chocolate will get you through the next week. And you have your special friends, Chrissy, Calgal and ahipgma plus the rest of us to uplift and cheer you for as long as we need to. We're here for you.
Big hugs and wishes for your comfort as you wait. :console2:
@Mayhip8

No, @Mayhip8 for sure these things are sent to test us. After my root canal calmed down, as I have long standing Menieres disease and its accompanying positional vertigo popped up 2 days ago so I am dizzy, but that has come and gone in the past.
It's like you have to tell the rest of your body
"hey, hurting hip here, knock it off!" But as a nurse you know that doesnt always work.
I will be so glad to hear when you finally go, you have done amazingly well, with your trials, tribulations, and cancellations!
Keep pampering yourself because as you know, once you begin recovering things like pedicures and haircuts get pushed back, just think of it as basic ladies maintenance to get ready for your big day. I LOVED my recliner while recovering, it helped me relax as I couldnt move from my assigned position and I could drift off safely.
And especially from me to you, wait till you are some weeks out from # 2!! It is so amazing, your gait is so normal, the pain is gone, from BOTH hips. I feel like I'm walking like a 30 year old, as long as I avoid mirrors. Ha ha
It's coming my dear. You have done so well, just hang in a little longer. Big hugs across the pond.

@Mayhip8 you are unbelievably stronger than you feel at the minute. Just think back to what you overcame pre surgery one, how you worked through recovery of hip one and also the fact you have no doubt got through many many things before so yes it is hard but you can and will get through. Like @Layla said chronic pain and sleep deprivation is awful and I know how I felt when the mist sleep I had for months was an hour or 2 at most. We are all with you and know that soon our virtual vacations will transform for all of us in to real vacations but until that time we are in this together. Hippie sisters all the way xxxxx

Oh my stars...:sorry:
What in the world?
Really hate this for you.

I absolutely understand its reasons beyond their control (my surgeon has become ill and they do not know when he will return )
I can be referred to other surgeons at the same hospital but their waiting lists are long.
I've just rung my own GP now to asked to be referred to a private hospital Under the NHS choose and book scheme. I'm waiting for their call back.

My knee-jerk reaction is to cry and feel upset and that's normal- in the background of my anxiety worsening anyway just is beyond belief. !
I can't control the situation I can only control the way that I react to it so I am going to cry and then I'm going to get myself up dust myself off and go and jump in the swimming pool with earplugs in, and swim away my frustration. And I am going to come home tonight and drink gin! Or at least a good glass or two of Sauvignon blanc ..
I don't know how many times I'm going to say this but "everything for a reason"
Thank you everyone for your continued support xxx

So How Many cancellations does this make?
I remember my mother telling me once
God doesn't put more on us than we can bear...
I looked up and said I think you have more faith in me than I have in myself. :umm:
How much sweeter it will HAVE to be, when this is finally over.
Heartfelt sympathy Hugs from Georgia USA

@Mojo333 So -My second op was meant to be in August, however they admitted I'd been given the wrong information.
Last minute phone calls on two different days offering next day surgery in September-then cancelled straight afterwards- administration reasons .
and planned surgery dates Now cancelled four times ( last week I cancelled as I had infection to the incision area )
When you look at it like this it looks quite intense doesn't it ?!
I know all will be well, there are worse situations to be in I'm sure.

planned surgery dates Now cancelled four times
I would be rattling some cages! Granted the cancellation due to infection was needed. But three other times - NOT! Sounds like a formal complaint is in order!

You know in all honesty I don't think I've got the energy to start complaints at the moment. I want to get my operation done I want to feel positive and then I'll probably reflect and maybe make my concerns heard but at the moment some things are beyond control.
Let's see what the GP says when they ring me back X

Oh @Mayhip8 I am so sorry.
I agree with @Jaycey, when your swim is over and you've had your gin or wine,
Maybe just compile your timeline of what has happened to you and find out what your formal channels are for a complaint.
I hesitate because I dont know your health system. ( it's hard keeping up with ours sometimes!), but as a nurse here I know people I could have gone to to try to expedite things, grease the wheels a little and push things along. It's not like you havent had your turn to be inconvenienced, and now you deserve as much as anyone to have your pain relieved and your op and begin recovery!!! You know as a nurse people are body mind and spirit and this gearing yourself up then being cancelled is hard on the psyche. I wish we lived closer:console2:but I can send determination vibes and prayers your way for support! Please keep us in the loop, we are all pulling for you!!
Love and hugs

I'm speechless. There are no words other than, unbelievable!
I'm so sorry, Mayhip. You certainly have a healthy attitude and are taking it in stride. I realize you have no choice but not all would handle it as gracefully.
I hope you enjoyed a good swim and then a Sauvignon Blanc, or Gin. :martini:
Prayers this doesn't happen to you again and that you're able to get another on the books soon. Peace and comfort to you as you wait. :bored:
@Mayhip8

asked to be referred to a private hospital Under the NHS choose and book scheme.
You go girl!! I had mine done private courtesy of NHS and I was thrilled with the level of care, private room and prompt surgery date - less than a month after referral. I sincerely hope you have the same great experience. You soooo deserve a break my friend. Till then, bring on the gin!!!!

Awwww Thank you everybody, your words of comfort and support mean a great deal to me and do help.

I've just spoken to my general practitioner and she has referred me on to the NHS private hospital scheme 'choose and book' so I'll go and pick that paperwork up in a bit.
Ironically I worked at the private hospital for 12 years and still have some colleagues that work there -so I know I have every faith in them and a private room does sound tempting doesn't it ?
It will be a different surgeon because obviously mine is unwell however I'll be able to choose . Hopefully.
Onwards and upwards hey ?!:loveshwr::thankyou:

@Mayhip8 Well done on getting things rolling in the private hospital. Still a wait list but I had my first THR on the NHS in a private hospital and it was magic! More like being in a hotel than a hospital. Food was great and staff were totally attentive. Fingers crossed you get that date soon!
