Congratulations Littlejem on going home today! Your pups will be happy to see you. Good luck and take good care of yourself. Don't overdo it. Rest, ice, elevate, meds, just like everyone else says. You'll feel like a different person before you know it.

Home sweet home and licks from Henry, heaven !!:puppysmooze: :kittykiss:oh and the cats!!

Littlejem Nothing like the pets to keep you company. My 2 lil doggies can't wait until I come down the stairs in the morning, and they sleep in my room all night! They're just taken down and go out an hour or two before I appear downstairs. It's like they haven't seen me in weeks. Makes me feel wanted - awwwww - and loved. :puppysmooze:

I Know ByGosh when Henry saw me he went mad, it's unconditional love isn't it!! I shall be sad to not be able to walk him for quite a while, he's a big dog so could pull me over but also I won't be able to bend down to scoop his poop!! :puppysmooze:

@zauberflote my older boy cat is all over me but he really is a soppy cat and loves attention, my girl cat is a little witch and only has a fuss on her terms but she is sat on my bed with me as I'm writing this, I think they're both glad to have me home! :) Janet x

Poppet & @bottomshollo can you give me some help on making myself comfortable in bed? I'm mostly doing ok but I woke with an aching back this morning quite low down and even though I've taken my painkillers it's still there. I've tried putting a pillow under my knees and it's helped a little but it's still there. My husband has to go to work so for the rest of this week he wants me to stay upstairs because he's worried about me doing stairs with no one around but this means I'm on the bed as we don't have a suitable chair upstairs. Any tips please?

Littlejem Oh I'm sorry about the back pain:sad: Can you hire in a massage therapist and make Mr M come home to let her in? Or, since he would have to come home, maybe he can just come home and do it himself? I remember having terrible backaches from sleeping in a hospital bed, and that time I was only 37!!!
My male cats are the snuggly ones too. The female was snuggly until she was spayed, and now she's a witch who only wants attention on her terms.:kittykiss:

Congratulations Littlejem on joining our journey!! If you read some threads, sleeping is always a problem in the beginning. I found that if I take my pain med 1/2 hour before bedtime it usually made me a little sleepy. I put 2 pillows under my feet and eventually feel asleep. I woke up a few times at night but went back to sleep...if the pain was bad I would take my meds. After 2 nights I was able to sleep on my side with a body pillow between my legs. That was after I was home so it was actually day 5. If you can't get a good night sleep make sure you're in a comfortable position when resting during the day and you will probably nod out if the furry friends will allow it!!I also used a heating pad when I went to bed ..just to relax my muscles a bit. As for staying upstairs all day..is that where your main living level is? You will be amazed how you will be getting around a just a few days and you may not want to be isolated if you are not near your kitchen and living area. You want to try to live as normal as possible and be able to walk with your walker/crutch/cane. I felt better getting out of my bedroom everyday and getting dressed..even if it was just for the animals!! All the girls are on my bed as I type..my Maltipoo Mia and cats Bella and Zuzu.Oh yes..and the birds are in their room doing their comedy routine as well..meowing, barking, and talking to each other. WHAT A ZOO!!! :kittykiss: :puppysmooze:

@Zauberflote yeah I found that male cats are much more friendly, all the girl cats I've had have been stroppy little sods!! When I went to the rescue center to get another cat I had my mind set on a boy but Katrina, (Kat the cat!) was just 12 months old and had been in there for 6 months because she kept biting potential owners!! Me being soft I had to take her and we've had her for 12 months now, she's very pretty and my boy cat (Tiberious) loves her but she is a little witch!!. Love them all though xx Janet :kittykiss:

Littlejem we've only had 2 females-- the early one would have killed me if she could for sleeping with my husband, who belonged to HER, LOL. We've always had more than one-- never more than 3 though. Three tails at feeding time is alot of fur!! Our Jenny "mouths" us, giving gentle little love bites when we're not paying attention. And there has always been a fighter in the crowd, "Mr Claws and Teeth", whoever he is. Meaning, he likes to play rough with the human hand. Mr ZF loves it, but I'm a wuss LOL. This set won't be all gone till we're 70, and then I think that will be the end of cats.
What kind are yours? I have brothers, one orange tiger stripe and the other white with saddle, tail and head orange stripey-- Mango and Tango. Jenny is a black half-Siameser, we guess. A stray. She's built like and talks like a Siamese. Such a sophisticated vocabulary! She can cuss in 7 different Asian dialects! Pity the boyz only speak American LOL

Thanks acbelmar, I know what your saying about being isolated but because he has to go out to work and leaving me on my own he's really worried about me. I live in a very old cottage with steep spiral type stairs and having only come home late last night I've only done them once. My living space is downstairs and my only bathroom is upstairs so you can see the problem. He did leave me food and drink and the stuff to make tea but I think tonight we will have to rethink it all as like you say I'd be better downstairs. Without going into details there are reasons he can't have time off but one of my daughters has been round to check on me. Two cats on the bed my Henry dog asleep on the floor by the bed, thanks for the advice this forum is just brilliant!!:)

Littlejem I see a portapotty and a camp bed in the near future of your downstairs.  The cottage sounds lovely...I'm jealous. 1964 ranch house just doesn't have any panache, and not much better plumbing either LOL!
You are brave, going it alone so soon! I'm a chicken, and feel I will want hubby within calling distance at all times LOL. I hope I find that's not necessary:)

@Zauberflote both of ours are just 'moggies' and we did have 3 at one point but I think 2 is an easier number to deal with. Kat is very pretty, mostly white with some pale splodges of pale tabby and Tibes is a very large tabby with a white tummy and feet. I always wanted a Siamese cat they really do talk don't they!! My boy Henry is a rescue Weimararner and an absolute treasure and he sure loves his mum.

He has a new job @Zauberflote only started 2 weeks ago and had been unemployed for 3 months before that so don't want to rock the boat. I'm really fine though x

Littlejem oh that's great that your husband found a new job! I surely understand needing to be at work. 3 years ago mine lost his job, and is now in business for himself, which is kinda stressful, but at least he can set his own hours! I am glad you're fine-- watching too much daytime tv, are we? :)

Hi Littlejem - You're smart not to do those stairs alone just yet. The first week I was home, I got up early when my husband was still home, and he helped me shower and dress, etc. and settled me downstairs on the couch with everything at hand before he left. I'm lucky to have a bathroom downstairs, though. A commode or portapotty would be what you'd need downstairs in order to stay there all day. Can you rent one from a medical supply place, or do you have thrift stores that are likely to carry them? I have one that was previously used and I just bleached it to death before I got near it, although it was nice and clean anyway.

The stairs were tricky for about a week for me, and I was weak so I always had someone with me to do them. You might feel comfortable doing them alone sooner because I had both hips done at once, too.

It all happened to you so quick, you didn't have much time to prepare, did you? I started getting supplies months before I was even scheduled because I just knew I'd need hip surgery. There is an agency here that you can get whatever you need for $1. It was great, I got 2 canes, a walker, a commode, a shower bench, a wheelchair, crutches--everything! Wish you were nearby, so you could use it.

You'll figure it out. Just remember, safety first. Don't do anything that might hurt that nice new hip.

@zauberflote I so love it when you get stumped over our words it's really funny :loll:How to describe a 'moggie' though!! I suppose we would call all cats that aren't pedigree 'moggies' it's just a basic cat that has a little of everything in it. It's a good word though isn't it, you'll have to stump me with sometime with some of yours!! I've had too much daytime TV yes and this is only day one!! ByGosh we used to have a downstairs toilet until we downsized a couple of years ago and it's at times like this that you miss it, oh and when my 3 grandsons are fighting over the loo because they all decide they need to go at the same time!! Yes you are right my op came about really quickly and I didn't really have anything in, like you say its a pity I wasn't closer I'd have taken you up on your offer of the loan!! I was given sticks and a toilet seat raiser to bring home from hospital and someone has lent me a long handled grabber which I have used quite a few times already. When I did the stairs last night I'll be honest I didn't find it too bad but whether coming down will be harder I don't know, I'll come down as soon as my 'old man' is home, give them a try. I can imagine doing anything after have both hips done together would be neigh on impossible!! I have to have the left done sometime soon and the consultant said potentially he could do it in 6 weeks but I think i'd rather have a bit of breathing space before I go again, you were very brave!!:friends:
