Good Morning on a and all from Dublin at 5:13 am on Wednesday 23 July. Very, very patchy wi-fi/internet connection here on Tuesday, so only looking at forum posts now.

Tuesday was a very long day, felt unwell for most of the day, no appetite -not truly nausea but generally tired and food was the last thing on my mind. Other than the 2 short PT sessions in the hospital "gym" and 2-3 walks in the corridor stayed in bed icing and sleeping most of the day.Awake now and that sluggish and nauseous feeling is past.

I transfer today from the hospital to the Rehab/Convalescent Centre. I am booked in for the standard 14 day admission, but can be discharged sooner than that if/ when I want to. At this moment, think that I will probably stay 5-7 days and see how I feel after that. I was a patient in this centre about 2 years ago after previous bowel surgery and was very happy with the care and staff & PT facilitates.

Well here is the next instalment in my recovery journey. Left off on Monday 21 July morning.

Monday afternoon - 21 July
  • After rest and ice, ice ,ice had second short session in the PT gym. Going up & down stairs, leg elevation exercises and quad strengthening exercises
  • Second CPM session at 80-85% Flexion. Really feel that the CPM benefits me and know that it is not for everyone and each of us finds what works for us as an individual.
  • Good afternoon and night husband and 2 friends into visit throughout the afternoon. Two friends worked it out that they would come at different times and Only stay for 10-15 minutes each and no longer. Find that short visits work best for me.
  • Monday night - slept through from 11:00 pm - 5:00 am without a need for pain relief and then back to sleep until about 7:00 am
Tuesday 22 JulyWoke at 7:00 am with a slight queasy feeling, not nausea but couldn't finish my morning porridge/oatmeal
  • Up and showered without any assistance and took first of my morning walks in the corridor
  • Meet my OS while walking and had brief chat and he said he would call in later when he was making rounds
  • 9:15 am PT session in gym, felt slight groin pain and it was thought it might have been from the straight leg raises on Monday, so advised to skip those to day and given several 'instant cold packs' to ice the area throughout the day.
  • Knee Flexion at 85%
  • Still feeling out of sorts, but didn't want anything for nausea
  • 11:00 CPM for an hour at 85 -90 % and then nap until lunch at 12:30
  • Light lunch of soup and herbal tea.
  • Ice and nap for the afternoon and visitor at 2:00pm
  • Took short walk in corridor and then CPM from 3:30 - 4:30 at 90%
  • Nap and ice until tea time at 5:30 - still only able for soup & jelly/jello and herbal tea
  • Husband in about 8:30 and he brought some dry crackers and diet 7up and that was greatly appreciated
  • Lights out 11:00 - after watching "Greys Anatomy"
  • Slept until 4:30 when requested something for mild 2-3 pain and awake since
  • After breakfast and looking forward to my porridge this morning, will shower and get organised for transfer to RehabCentre
  • 2 other knees and 1 hip are going from here to there, so will know some familiar faces.
  • Discharge time is 10 am and looking forward to the short drive ( about 5 minutes) to get out and get some fresh air.
Don't know if Tuesday was just a post-op blues day or build up of medications, but it was a"blah" kinda of day.so far, this morning feeling better, leg less stiff and dead feeling, bending it with less difficulty.

Will update later and hopefully, the wi-fi/ internet connection will be better in Caritas Convalescent Centre.

@tiredwife you're up very late, you mind yourself and make sure that you get your sleep too !
Thank you for the advice about over doing it and will take that to heart. Wi-fi down on IPad, but working on my IPhone .
The workings of internet technology are a mystery to me.

Will hopefully, have better internet connection in the Rehab centre.
Have a good sleep, ...

@marmora Glad to here you are doing well. I had a lot of queasiness and low appetite too....still do, 5 weeks later. Didn't keep me from gaining 10 lbs...I think that may be thanks to all my meds, such as prednisone. I hope you like the rehab hospital. I loved mine...best thing ever. It did get boring, but as it turns out home is boring too. For those of us who like to be active, I guess knee surgery and the resulting long healing process is just going to be a bit dull! Fortunately we have this place and all our other Internet buddies to entertain us. I hope your move goes smoothly.

Had to laugh re your post about visitors,
This week. I have apologised to three people who came to see me in hospital, and I drifted off to sleep while they were there.
One was my brother in law, who didnt bring flowers, he brought a small bottle of scotch. He handed it to me, I said thanks, and went to sleep. If the staff had come in, it would have made a pretty picture with me holding a bottle of booze.

@marmora My daughter works 12 hour shifts (nurse) at night her husband works 3 pm to 11pm. So I have my grandson from 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm on the days they both work. (yesterday, today and tomorrow). I think sleep is getting to be an endangered species. Have a great day.

@Gingiebot the loss of appetite is from the pain meds. I was on prednisone for my sinus infection (just got off them). Hate them, they always make me puff up.

@Reebok Ahhhh. Such a cute picture!

@marmora Hi, sounds like you are right on track! You will have good days and "bad" days. Keep positive! Better go my p.t. person is here! I hope everyone has a great day!:sneaker:

@bball78 How are you doing? You are so right about good days and bad. ROM will bounce back and forward. That is the nature of this recovery. Positive attitude will get you far.

@Roselover
Just posted my 'Battle Scar' photo and ours look very similar!

Long day and will do update on Thursday. Delay in leaving hospital for Rehab had to have an Echo Cardiagramme, blood coagulation screening and seen by Haematologist and now on Xarelto to prevent blood clots.

Didn't get to rehab until 4:30, tired and settling in. Only IPhone seems to have internet connection & not Ipad, so hard to text.

Heading to sleep at 9:30 pm. Tomorrow is another day.

Hang in there're! You are making progress; not uncommon to have a few bumps in the road in early recovery days......it will get better!!

Best of luck!

@marmora Keep us posted! Get a good night sleep, things always look better in the morning.

@tiredwife My recovery is going well. Doing my p.t., walking, icing, taking my pain meds.....trying not to over do my exercises (I can push myself too hard at times).....I am bending at 107. So far the pain hasn't been too bad, the biggest negative is getting my blood regulated.

Have a great night everyone and stay positive:flwrysmile:!

@bball78 Great to hear except the blood issues. Hope they get everything worked out. Everyone seems to have their own issues along with the regular recovery issues. Have a great evening.

Hi there, from one still on the " dark side " I really appreciate yr story. So encouraging.
Thanks for sharing.

Btw does George clooney do hospital visit in Sydney Australia or will I have to make do with Russell Crow? :chinstroke:
Lots of best wishes for an uneventful journey.

Good Morning it's 6:15 am in sunny, hot, tropical Dublin !
The Irish have many words to describe rain - 'soft rain' 'fierce rain' 'hard rain' 'shocking rain.'
But, very few terms to describe high temperatures with sunshine - only,
'Bejesus, isn't it fierce shocking hot" ! As the night nurse just said to me, after giving me my 6 am pain relief!

Update Wednesday 23 July 2014
  • To be discharged & transferred to Caritas Convalescent Centre after breakfast at 10 am
  • History of DVTs & PEs with blood coagulation problem
  • Ready & dressed - then nurse comes to say prior to discharge to have Echo Cardiagramme, second blood coagulation screening and see Hemotologist
  • Tests completed and as a precaution after knee surgery where there is a higher risk if blood clots/ DVTs change of anti- clotting medication to Xarelto indefinitely
  • Minor discharge hiccup and tests should have been done a day or toe prior to discharge
  • Arrived at Caritas for admission about 4:30 pm and joy of joy given a wide brimmed sun hat, sun high factor cream and suggested to sit in the garden before tea time at 5:30, as 'have to enjoy this sun while we can, sure it could be gone tomorrow'
  • So good to be out in the fresh air and sun !
  • PT will start on Thursday
  • Majority of the 56 patients are THRs and then about 20 TKRs and a few post- non Orthopaedic surgery
  • Have been a patient here in 2012 after bowel surgery, many familiar staff still here
  • Pain meds and my Cryo Cuff and to bed about 9:30 pm
  • Pain meds again at 1:15 am & 3:30 am and now again at 6:15
  • Looking forward to the new day and PT and getting back into the garden while the sun is still fierce shocking hot !
  •

@Lori will ask Mr Clooney to travel to Oz to see you.
Russell Crowe wouldn't be a bad stand-in, but I'd prefer Hugh Jackman if George is unavailable!

Will have to get my people to talk to Georges' people - as I'm still waiting,....

How about Keith Urban??? @Mamora and all - sounds like you are off to a great start with recovery! It is great to keep such a detailed log of your recovery too. Six months from now you will be. Amazed when you reread your thread as there are so many details you forget. Did you have a national holiday when Rory won? Both my son and daughter's partners are Sullivan's but in no way related. My DH and I are both Italian so our grandchildren have T-shirts that say "pasta and potato's". Hope your move today goes well! Xoxo
