Left hip needs done, have to settle CRPS first

#CRPS Frequent placings of the good foot and looking at the mirror have almost meant I take the mirror image as real regularly. As to has the pain gone I'm not sure how much it is because of the mirror or a remission. I do know if I bang my foot in the wrong place its a.definite ow and Beezer. I also lightly trace over my skin with some cottonwool and the iffy leg and foot are most definately not as sensitive as it was. Re nerve damage no alteration in sensation or mobility. The foot and ankle have more natural movement but that is other muscles aiding and becoming more free. Daft really two main areas of no muscle movement are spreading toes but also ability to go on tiptoe. I regularly try but nought, silly really but then I'm a silly chap.

Hi @Legin wow what you have been through and now bouncing back! You are amazing as we all keep telling you! You survived those long and frequent walks from last week too. Isn't it strange about the non working muscles. Am I understanding it right - it was triggered by the hip op but not connected?
I think I might have been given just little taster of your bigger picture. With my foot in plaster, toes are numb but if I touch something accidentally it is like lightening hitting me. Where I have the "hardware " as they call it i.e. the screws and pins and like scaffolding in the foot, I feel weird sensations fizzing, wiggling and popping but not usually painful. But cast is taken off in 12 days time. My hip is, thank goodness surviving all of this, but is very tired!I look forward to your next instalment x

What a great update @Legin ! So glad you are starting to see some results. You definitely get a gold star for patience!

Ty Jacey, it seems as tho all my life has involved some fight in one way or another. Coppers the numb comes from nerve damage that occoured during the operation, gleaned from snippets I got from diff professionals after the opp. My pain management therapist thinks the #CRPS came from the same procedure. My foot was badly bruised and this was linked to the major problems with dislocating the hip. They are often so closed in info and I have stressed I'm not looking for compensation just help. What infuriates me is the lack of communication sometimes. I found out that after the opp, well wife thought I had gone as I wasn't responding properly then suddenly she is rushed off and I'm being given a morphine antidote. They had overdosed me. Then I wasn't breathing properly apparently had a student nurse counting my breathing record, two to five times a minute. I found this out three days after and when I asked what is going on, also numb leg and foot. Withing five minutes I had a three line whip at the end of the bed. The consultant, the registrar and head of physio. All saying, I had been told at the time, when I was out of it...... Its all very alien to me coming from the care profession where absolute transparency is a core feature. Any way rant over sorry for the verbal dooodas.

I do find it difficult when there is no transparency but doctors are so worried here as in the States about litigation. There are a lot of numpties out there who will try to sue them at the first opportunity for the smallest thing but there are many more people like you who accept that mistakes can be made and need answers so they can move on with their lives and deal with the outcome they have. It's a shame you have to experience the lack of communication because of the situation. Of, course there are always genuine tragic incidents of neglect or ignorance that do need dealing with properly.

I am so glad that in spite of everything you are moving on with things and life is improving for you.

@Legin You have been through so much so it is wonderful that at last your patience and persistence is paying off and you are seeing some improvements.

@Legin I missed all those scary happenings in hospital-- wow.
Your foot report sounds good! Maybe your special PT can tell if things are all due to your work, or to a remission. Glad other muscles are pitching in! The toe spreading and tip toe ing are likely in your future! :)
You are, as everybody else is saying, amazing, persistent, compliant with health regimens, and out there being good help to others all at the same time!
I love "numpty", wish I could use it here and anyone would have a clue what I meant! Must be related to our "numbskull", which people don't use much anymore. More's the pity!

Hi @Legin Oh wow!! What a lot you have had to deal with. I cannot exclaim in the way I want as this is a public forum but expletive.. expletive ... Awful for you and I can just imagine the scare your wife had being a bystander in all of this. Transparency makes things so much easier to deal with. The nurse counting your breathing , reaction to morphine, nerves .... ugh!

On a much lesser level, my consultant re my foot has been very transparent and as a result things that would have been very problematic for me have faded away e.g.
  • By their own standards I should have been seen with in 3 days when I did my foot injury. It took 13-14 days to be seen. The consultant apologised, explained how I fell through the net and seemed genuinely concerned about it.
  • In my surgery they had a small, medium and large plate available they could have used in one part of my foot. unfortunately the small one was too large for me. They had to use it but as a consequence it is too near the surface of my skin which means I will have to have it taken out with surgery - no choice. The consultant , did not cover it up but explained this to me in a concerned way so again it seemed less problematic to me
  • The first plaster cast that was put on my foot when I was still knocked out was not done properly. The consultant with the member of staff who did it discussed it with me so that I knew what had happened.
All this transparency made me feel that I had had a GOOD service!

You have handled a really difficult series of things so bravely and the lack of transparency must have made it all so much worse. After I had my hip done I got a copy of all of my medical records and this was second best to having had a transparent service. As you said legin, coming from a service where transparency is the norm makes this all the more shocking. No more drama, you have more than enough for one lifetime!

One thing I have learned thru work and generally just normal interaction is everyones own pain, turmoil and anger is individual and in itself your problem which needs a plan and action, the idea of other people are worse of than you doesn't make you actually feel that much better. I do feelnthe health service still can't actually get its head around transparency and accountability. Don't get me wrong some are brilliant but it is in my opinion the minority, as we slip into a blame culture, but surely anyone can see that restricting information actually feeds the blame culture and we then get this spiral with the patient getting lost. So to all I say the first step to take is if you are not sure about any part of your treatment either past present or future is use your voice and say excuse me but I am the patient and I have choices but give me all the information so I can make the best choice for me as a recovery is best undergone with a settled mind.

Another week over seems like only a day or so ago I was celebrating having last weekend off. Work is going well the chap thonhas hurt his back and leans heavily on me. I asked him do you think I'm his PLP he looked and said well you use was there. His daughter had difficulty keeping her coffee with the mouth.
On a dagnabit issue the blisters are still popping up so no doubt stronger antibs will be on offer on Monday

Legin THR Sep 14

Ok I looked up PLP and still don't know what you mean by it!
Re blisters--arrgghh! Are the antibx for prevention of infection, or what?

Hey ho Angel I'm grant ty and I hope things improve for you.
A restful weekend for me, no work, no big meals just pottering in the garden and walking the pooches. The wiifff spoke to me last week and spoke of her worries for me and overdoing things. I ended up feeling terrible as I was so caught up in trying to be normal, what ever that is and as many of us do, esp males we miss what's in front of our noses. So here's to all those Smarty background people who put up with our moans and groans, give the one who is there for you a hug.

Went to drs yesterday as blisters are going and not good at all. Got stronger antibiotics so we will see.
Work was fine but walk home I had a major drain of energy, have eaten a cereal bar and feel better. Special PT thingmabob tomorrow it will be interesting to see how she feels as my progress with mirror has gone back somewhat. I'm also supposed to gently skim my leg with cotton wool going downwards. My skin is hypersensitive there and I was getting a feeling that with time some area didn't feel as bad. But now I have leg covered to keep dressings on.

Legin THR Sep 14

Hi @Legin, I missed your post this morning. Those blisters! That walk! Antibiotics! Those dressings!. The stars are not treating you well either! All I can say is be kind to yourself and look after yourself. x
