TKR Lavender's getting a new left knee for Christmas

United StatesHi everyone and thanking you for nice posts. I think the cortisone is working feels like a success as the swelling in my left knee has gone down a lot looks like it did more many years ago. My right knee is finding it easier to and it looks a lot less swollen to. Watching the news last night so many warnings about water levels on the rivers around us and with the amount of rain over the past few weeks the level of water on our river is highest we remember it ever being. The weather at night here is starting to get so much cooler last night was the first night we did not turn on our air conditioner it is now 15 degrees celsius only 59 degrees but beautiful and fresh.

We meet a nice woman in our park and she has a male dachshund his name is Jasper beautiful coat and so cute he has decided that he like to chase squirrels and has now decided that this is his mission. We sit together and talk and until a short time ago she said he did not notice them but now he really keeps them on the run usually sleepy under the bench and now very busy seeing your little dog on your post reminded me that it has been a few weeks since we met and wondering if she is alright. Reading along with your post you have done so amazing with all you have accomplished and should be so proud and how many of us you have helped along our way to with your kind help.

Today we are going to our park maybe take a sweater and with my knee feeling so much better hoping to get back to the walks we love. Even sitting on the benches so much to look at so many amazing things to enjoy and sit with our geese and ducks and the seagulls and just relax. Familiar faces we meet a lady each day and her little dog so who is so smart goes without a leash and knows what to do. She loves out park to.
We sit and watch the geese and ducks almost looks like they are doing a water ballet. They fly above and then land almost like they are on water skis. The ducks like to dive down and then pop up in sequence they look like they are dancing sometimes 20 or more all at once and like they are putting on a little water show like synchronized swimmers all together. Hoping the water is a little calmer . Lot of people let their dogs loose and they swim along down the river and meet up further down . Water so rough they might get caught but then the dogs we meet are really smart and would probably know not to go in when it is this fast. Well off to our park and a nice walk taking my Dads walker just in case and hoping like each day when we come home surgeons office may have called with appointment date for surgery. Should not be too much longer but know it is coming just the same.

Hi Today it is very over cast almost looks like it could snow oh no not yet please. The river in our park is even deeper there is a dam quite a bit up above the large falls and it seems that with all of the rain and the deeper water they have opened it to release the water further up . I can't believe how different it looks the sidewalks are covered in close to 8 inches of water and instead of dropping down into the water they just walk in. The upper falls are running so fast that there is a deep foam from the water pounding down and the area in front of the smaller fall of water is white and foamy wondering why we could not see the logs and branches no longer there the water is flowing so fast that they seem to have been swept down the river. Looking a little like pictures of rapids where people go white water rafting that I have seen

We usually go to the town nearby for breakfast on Saturdays mornings but this week instead we made a last minute plan to go for lunch there today. This restaurant is owned by family and they put so much care into making it a comfortable friendly place this month is their 18th anniversary of owning it so each customer is given an envelope as they are paying their check and inside the chance to win 5, 10, 25. 50 percent of even the entire meal free. So far we have had 5 and 10 percents discounts but last year and the year before we were surprised to see upon the waitress opening the envelope that we had 25 percent and the first was a 50 percent nice whatever discount as it makes your bill smaller.
The town is a tourist area and today at the buffet there were 2 tourist buses full of seniors ready to have their lunch and they all looked like they were enjoying themselves. It is such a nice place and a few years ago they put an addition on the building which has a few good sized rooms to hold large groups some get lost on their way back to their table get confused at which door is theirs so we found ourselves trying to help them back.
Today we are going to take our air conditioner out of our bedroom and hoping we will not be sorry but it is getting cold and should be ok now. My leg is feeling so much better just hope it holds on till surgery but at least it is a break for now from the swollen feeling. @lavender Glad your knee is doing better! We went out to breakfast at McDonald's today, don't usually eat at McDonald's but they have pretty good breakfast. They have a wall down part of their eat-in area. This morning there was at least 10 older gentlemen on one side of the wall all eating together and on the other side of the wall was about 8 older ladies eating together. It was kind of funny, reminded me of lunch time in grade school where the boys and girls didn't want to sit by each other! I kept wondering if any of the gentlemen where married to any of the ladies.
Hi @tiredwife Hope you are having a nice day. It does sound like how girls and boys did things on their own. Boys were busy with boy stuff and did not want their friends seeing them with a girl. Girls stayed together to and how things change when they grow up and want to do things together. At the restaurant we like to go to there are a few large booths they hold at least 4 people on each side. There is a group of men and husbands and wives I think that gather men on one booth women must be somewhere else cause they seem to gather at one booth and meet up after they are finished eating and then on their way together .
Not sure why just like to talk girls stuff and guys stuff maybe. I like to eat with my husband and if we were with a group we would just have a larger table and eat all together I hope. Almost like the older times when men went off to smoke their pipes together and women went off to do their own things together in the kitchen. It would be interesting to see if they went out together after they ate. Different with friends women going to do things that men may not be interested in doing together but think it is nice if family can talk together so like it better when we all mixed together and shared together. Easier then having to remember what each one said so you could share what was happening and nice to get together as a bunch and spend time together. Have a great weekend Holly

Hello @lavender - just popped by and caught up with all your lovely posts again. I find it interesting how all of us here have different weather patterns. Some of us are anticipating the winter, others are just coming into their summers, some have summer all year round. A while back I lived in Asia and also the Middle East and one of the things I really missed were the seasons - I am so used to UK's Spring Summer Autumn and Winter and found it very difficult to just have hot weather, as nice as I thought it would be. The only plus side was that I never had to take a jacket 'just in case it turned cold' or an umbrella 'just in case it rains' - that bit was good!
I was interested to read about the squirrels, I have loads of them in my garden, they live in the big trees and are forever running about and sitting on my garden furniture and running along the walls and fences. We only have grey squirrels here - there used to be red ones too which were beautiful, but the grey ones were a bit nasty and the red ones died out. However there is an island near my seaside house, that has a big colony of red squirrels and they are so handsome. My daughter used to keep fancy rats - they were so cute and I posted quite a few pics of them early on, but they were old boys and sadly don't live very long lives. It amazes me how alike the squirrels are to them, they just have the big bushy tail instead!
Its lovely to read about your geese. We call them Canadian Geese here. I live very near the River Thames and lots of them are often on the banks - we don't often see them flying though, that must be so special. When we were first married my husband played rugby and the geese liked to group on the playing fields. I have to say he moaned at them sometimes, being tackled in a pile of Geese poop was not much fun and neither was trying to get the stains out of his rugby kit!
I am having a quiet day today. My husband loves sailing and races most weekends. This weekend however it is a regatta for really old sailing boats and he has been asked to crew on one. They are so beautiful, the one he is on was built in 1895. As he will be on the water most of the weekend, I decided to stay here and not go with him to our other house, but have asked him to take some photos.

Hi It is morning here and just woke up and thought maybe I should come down and get something to eat. It is neat how different parts of the world have their weather. Time changes different times different places and weather can be so totally different to. Interesting to hear how different places we all live experience these things.
I would really miss the changes in seasons not sure about the snow but always something to look forward to and although I would like to have it a little warmer sometimes love the seasons we have.
Squirrels in the park are cute to watch but in our garden so many bulbs were chosen for their food does not bother me that much now but strange how things that we have planted are seen flowering in other gardens next door and noticing something growing like crazy that looks like a plant we had out front in our yard is now missing from there and seeing it beside our outside stairs instead.
Almost like they are thinking that some bare spots in other yards and ours need a little fixing up so they move things around. I was thinking the same thing about the things they have in common it is the difference in their tails one bushy one long. the other day when a little squirrel sat down on the bench of the table we were sitting at. I have always been afraid of mice and rats. My friend had a pet rat that she looked after and one day she realized that he was missing.
I was staying overnight at their house after we had attended someones birthday and uncomfortable that he would appear in the bed with me. My Dad would never have hurt anything he was very comfortable with nature but they squirrels in his yard drove him crazy ate his magnolia blossoms they had a little battle going on.
Remember when I was little he went into our attic and all you could hear was him crossing along the boards trying to get to the end of the chimney where they had made a hole in the roof somewhere and trying to put screening up. I think the squirrels liked the action because after my Dad died there were even more and almost like they were missing him. Your husband really must enjoy his sailing beautiful going out on the water nice to have something that you really enjoy. The boat he is sailing on must be amazing and to be that age and still sailing how wonderful. Seeing pictures of some of the older boats the wood and how beautiful they are.
Very cold this morning in our house temperature must have dropped quite low feels like it could snow. Woke up to a dream seemed so real wondering if they mean anything and thinking maybe they do or maybe just tired and that is what popped into my head. This one was like someone was telling me that things are good and my Dad was in it. Knee feeling much better and not so swollen just hoping for long enough till surgery. Making my sugar readings a bit crazy up and then really down but oh well at least my knee is happy and so am I.
Just thinking about your daughter and her new hearing aids how is she liking them now and hoping she is finding it easier now after a little time to get used to them. Hope they are helping her with the new sounds she is hearing how much wishing they will make things for her. Wishing you a really nice weekend and nice to wake up to your lovely post and thanks and hoping your husband has a wonderful time with his sailing to. Holly

We are having very foggy mornings, then lovely warm & sunny afternoons - so warm you could eat out in the garden and then cool to cold evenings, where you might need to turn on the heat for an hour or two to warm the house. But, we have not had rain for the last 7-10 days and predicted no rain expected until the end of this week.

Good morning to you and hope you are having a nice weekend to. Our weather has been so much colder over the past few weeks in the morning wake up to heavy dew on the grass and car windows. It warms up and the sun is out by middle afternoon and love how the light reflects on the grass and trees and makes our roses look so shiny. I like the weather warm during the day but love getting into bed and pulling the covers up usually keep pushing them off but keep them on now to stay warm.
I do not know why but for some reason I have never like anything on my feet. Lot of people like to wear slippers but I rather go barefoot. Just one of my things I guess whenever I come home and wearing socks take them off right after my shoes just do not like the feel of anything on my feet not sure why. Have not worn any socks all summer makes my feet feel free not looking forward to putting them on again when it gets cold although I do have some nice soft ones.
Yesterday we went to the movies they were showing the one we wanted to see at 11:00 am and we have been saving our movie pass to go to one we really wanted to see. We save our air miles from grocery purchases and a few other stores and then trade them in for movie passes movie two diet pop and one popcorn nice and all free
We saw the movie "Dolphin Tale 2 about rescued dolphins which were cared for in a place in Florida, Clear water beach and about the dolphin that lost his tale to a tangled fishing net and how they cared for her. Loved the first Dolphin tale movie a few years ago and this one to and although I try not to can't help but cry the story is so beautiful they make her a tale in the first movie and teach her how to live again with the new tale.
I love this movie and almost like the way that they can replace our damaged knees they replaced her tail and as our movement returns after thinking it won't hers did to. I always take it slow going down the stairs at the show wait till everyone is leaving wait till the crowds slow down noticing yesterday I was not the only one doing this. A little boy was sitting in the front row in his wheelchair, only about 8 years and the people above us who were still sitting looked like they were waiting to as noticing a few with canes, and a couple of others doing the stairs like me and so many of us who are dealing with mobility issues but managing just the same.
When I was at my appointment at the hospital the other day my surgeon never made any mention of my right knee and its bend. I have achieved a the highest 90 degrees and with so many through the recovery time making me push harder no more bend just the way this knee is and it is working fine. He did not ever push bend he was hoping I could get more but told me that at one time this was all they expected and as long as I was ok did not make me feel like I should be doing better just the most it would go.
I was told that the next time the focus will not be on the bend but on healing and my well being in how I could do things with it always wondered why others could with working at it go higher but mine is stuck and just going to be content with how it is. Thinking that maybe after my left knee surgery my right may not have as much to take care of and may bend a bit more.

The water in our park is very high and falls are spilling over usually a little a white and bubbling right by the falls but now the rough water goes so much out almost reminding me of pictures of places where people go white water rafting. Well going to the park now missed it yesterday as it was raining and really miss when we can't sit with our feathered friends and listen to the birds and the rush of the water and sit under our tree in the fresh air.
Looks like it will be a nice day the sun is out and enjoying it as much as we can while the weather is warm leaves turning and you can hear them dancing on the parking lots and sidewalks fields we drive by are turning shades of golden and one shades of yellow and cream yesterday love this time of year to the fall is so beautiful. The water in our park is very high and falls are spilling over usually a little a white and bubbling right by the falls but now the rough water goes so much out almost reminding me of pictures of places where people go white water rafting. Well going to the park now missed it yesterday as it was raining and really miss when we can't sit with our feathered friends and listen to the birds and the rush of the water and sit under our tree in the fresh air.
Looks like it will be a nice day the sun is out and enjoying it as much as we can while the weather is warm leaves turning and you can hear them dancing on the parking lots and sidewalks fields we drive by are turning shades of golden and one shades of yellow and cream yesterday love this time of year to the fall is so beautiful. @lavender It sounds like you had a really nice day yesterday. My 8 year old grand daughter loves dolphins and we watched the original dolphin tale movie yesterday. It is a great movie. We are going to see dolphin tale 2 next weekend when my daughter is off work. I am glad you enjoyed the movie. I love coupons, discounts and reward programs!
Hi @Minnie's knees Hope you are having a nice weekend to. I know you won't be disappointed in the Dolphin Tale 2 movie we really enjoyed it and nice that these movies are made to . Your grand daughter will love it to. My niece also loves dolphins and so do we amazing how much they are discovering about the way these beautiful creatures live and how intelligent they are. I was reading that we use 10 percent of our brain capabilities and dolphins use 20 percent.
We love coupons and keep an eye on sales flyers and this summer our movie theater ran half price Tuesday admission prices in the afternoons so took our own water to drink and saw a few nice movies for so much less. We used to purchase passes at work just around $20. for 2 admissions two pops and on bag of popcorn which a lot cheaper then purchasing even the two admissions. Now we save our air miles and get the same passes when we have saved up enough and admission with this is free. Now saving up again and going to the movies or watching them at home is our passion just love movies.
I am sure you are hoping to hear about your surgery date soon to. Any idea how long they think it might take till you have your surgery hope you hear soon have not much longer to wait it will help your knee to get back to what it was used to doing before. My surgeon planned on 4 to 6 months waiting so now just about through the first 2 months of that and hoping to hear soon. Wishing you a wonderful week and looks like fall is here where we live. Holly

Hi what a nice day it is quite cool but sunny and still wearing my shorts holding out till I had to give in and wear my warmer clothes. The water in our park is still very high and moving very fast The men from the model boat group were trying to sail their boats but the water is very high up the sidewalk which run beside the water and the banks very deep. They have some really neat boats submarines, and some are quite large one today over 4 feet long all built to scale . When the geese are walking along the sidewalks the water is up to the top of their legs floating along on top of the water where the grass is .
We were sitting on the bench one of our favorite ones up towards the larger water fall and down from the bridge we noticed red lights reflecting on the water coming from the other side of the river on the other end of the bridge noticed four men wearing uniforms walking towards us and as they got closer they passed us and said Hi noticed they were firemen one of the firemen we met today as he passed is the little boy that lived at the end of our street.
As a little girl his family and my family did things together and I played with his sisters he was the youngest of 6 and now a fireman so big and tall. He used to play hockey on the road with my brothers with wooden boards strapped to his legs so he would not get hurt with the puck. Their Mom died a year ago in the spring the same time as my Dad and they were such a close family as mine was. This little boys son is now a paramedic and he came my parents house when my Dad had his stroke to take care of him how time flies by so fast
The firemen were walking up and down the side of the river watching the water and went a long way down to the far bench by the paddle boat docks which are under water not longer visible and then just looked across the water again . No time to talk they were moving fast and heard the man who looked like he was in charge say maybe better check up at the other pathway by the river. Hoping that they were not looking for someone hope no one fell in as it is not usually a deep river but now water very rough and foamy with the under current by the falls it would be so dangerous if caught in the current.
There are large fish in this water and looked like one fish was trying to jump up out of the water pounding along the smaller falls looked more then a foot long hope it was alright very large around then the fire man drove up along the other side other the water up to the large falls which have never flowed this hard either and wondering what they are trying to find. Hope no one got hurt . Having my blood test tomorrow and hoping results are a bit lower . Wishing all the very best Holly

Hi @Minnie's knees Not sure how it went last time but remember getting a call from the surgeons office and think at that time she told me she had my surgery date I was very surprised 5 month wait and then it happened so fast. Remembering that the nurse who monitors blood levels for iron and was one of my appointments and as my iron was a little below what she hoped it would be at that time she worked with me to get it up for a few weeks and at pre- op another blood test that showed level higher a few weeks before surgery was planned she reminded me when she saw me in the hospital last week she was keeping an eye out for my date and she would call what a nice women she is and does her job so well. Waiting for a date then recovery time and now looking back it actually has gone pretty fast and well and happy to have my knee moving better. So many things to have checked and then all over . If the date is what they predicted then the latest should be around January at least it will be taken care of before the nice weather comes again next spring my husband is predicting November which would be great to either way it will be coming soon. Nice to be recovering together and we probably will be close with our dates to. Holly

Hello @lavender - just having a quick catch up here and reading about the dolphin movie.
When we lived in Abu Dhabi we had a boat and I loved seeing the dolphins all swimming and jumping about nearby. When my husband goes sailing in warmer waters the dolphins often follow the boat, and if he is in bed at the front he can hear them the other side of the hull.
Here are 2 photos for you Holly: one of a fox sunbathing in my garden today - he was the baby early this year, and particularly likes that spot. The other is one taken while hubby was sailing off Spain in early August this year.

Thanks so much for sharing your pictures of the fox he is just so beautiful looks like he is very comfortable and enjoying his surroundings and the sunshine. I have never seen one up this close your garden must be a place he really enjoys and he is absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much to for the picture of the dolphin as well he is gorgeous just love the color of the water and he looks like is so relaxed. Visiting aquariums in Disney in Florida and sea world we had a chance to see them but not this close and how nice it would be to see and hear them when they are in their own natural surroundings and swimming and living free
We watched the first Dolphin tale movie while sitting at home last night and this type of movie makes me feel so emotional the beauty of the tale of how people who care and love nature help them to heal and return them back to the ocean when they are ready to be on their own. The movie theater was very quite during the movie as hoping not to miss a minute of the story now waiting for the dvd to come out so we can watch it again. It is a beautiful day here and the sun is shining skies clear and blue and a soft breeze and sat and enjoyed the lovely day in our park. Went for our blood tests today the receptionist pointed out that my husbands was expired by three days and so he will have to go back sometimes later this week. The test my husbands kidney doctor issued was supposed to last till the spring and he was asking for two more test we were told the form would cover all of them so after calling the office of this specialist they ensured him that they would sort it out for him with the blood clinic and tell them that the form was still valid. Going to a different clinic next time my test was alright waited for an hour to get in but done now.
My husband is going to try again on Monday when we will be at the doctors for other appointments for each of us and then while I am at my checkup appointment he is going to slip up to their clinic and hopefully the same thing will not happen again. The woman on the desk did not seem very friendly today and started to yell at an older man who it seemed having a cardiogram and misunderstood her directions and did not get everything off he needed to take off to get ready. He probably left more stressed after all of this
I guess some days are not as good as others for everybody but everyone seemed to be having a problem most sent to get a different form thank goodness my test is over for the next 3 months unless the surgeon needs more for my surgery. The last thing that people under health stress shoud have is more stress when they go to a doctor thanking my doctor for being kind and no matter what he has to tell you he makes you feel like he will take care of whatever comes along and always with a patient way of saying things. Thinking after all of the at commotion my sugar would be up but came home to a nice reading 6.1 very surprised. Hoping my test results were this result.
The weather here is lovely today and the sun is shining the sky is very blue and clear just a little breeze perfect day. The water in our park is much slower the water level has gone down much lower so and the docks that were lost under the deep water are now sitting about it and waterfalls back to being calmer. No more turbulent water and even the geese and ducks and sea gulls we were feeding seemed to be more relaxed with the change back to normal. The sidewalks and banks along the water are no longer flooded and just such a nice time sitting in the sun and shade enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Not needing to use the walker today as my leg is feeling so much better and first time does not seem that I have any no swelling for a while. Hoping you are having a nice day and that the people you meet along the way are nice and no stress to. Holly
