Kneeling

Is it too soon to be stretching my calves on stairs? Mine were tight before the surgery and I stretched daily, I dont want to do any damage.

You could try with a few stretches, don't over do it and see how it feels the next day. Just do a few once and evaluate the pain tomorrow.

So I took a walk yesterday and my knee feels fine but my hip is hurting. I iced it and moved my leg around but it is still a steady 5 on hydrocodone. Has anyone else had hip issues after tkr? @jocephine

Oh yes, many of us developed hip pain afterwards. My was on the opposite hip. I don't know if it's the norm or not. I even unintentionally favoring my old knee, thus putting more pressure on that hip and it rebels! I can walk perfectly well without a limp, but forget sometimes since I did it for over 25 years. Old habits are so hard to break!

There are all sorts of new aches and pains surrounding a TKR. I put the hip pain down to sitting in the same position for so long, then later I was walking differently than I had before surgery. Using muscles differently, or muScles that haven't been used in a while. Then there's the shoe issue, old shoes have that old wear pattern from limping and walking with a bad gait. Be sure you're using new shoes and concentrating on toe-heel walking.

My sneaks are new as of August and early october is when my knee started yelling at me. Good to know these pains are not abnormal. I am icing my hip as well as my knee and lumbar throughout the day. Pain management is unable to schedule an epidural injection until I am able to forgo asprin for 7 days so I am going to get a few more gel packs.

@sistersinhim I have begun to lengthen my stride as well and it has helped with my attempts to walk normally. Don't know the thoughts on treadmills bit due to the weather I did 10 minutes at .7mph. Felt pretty good!

As long as it doesn cause pain you're fine. Sometimes the pain from over doing things manifests during the night. So if the walking didn't cause pain continue the next day and add on after a week.

So glad the longer strides are helping you. They felt so good!

My hips were both sore the day after I did my first longer walk. I must say it did panic me a bit. I left it for a few days then tried again. I concentrated on heel toe walking and tried to take longer strides. That seemed to work and no more hip pain.

Yesterdaydid 14 minutes and tolerated that well except for being more tired than I thought I would be.

Your knee looks so good! You have hardly any swelling! And walking for 14 minutes is fantastic! I hope you won't get sore from it.

Had pt this morning and he massaged and manipulated and I got revolutions on the bike, as well as freedom from the walker in pt. It felt so good to have the front of my thigh stretched!

Must have pushed it at pt, real sore. Icing and elevating. I am having trouble knowing what to do at the time when it feels good but later have a lot of soreness and pain.

Unfortunately, most of the time when you overdo it, you don't know it until that night and the next few days. That why we stress that easy pt is the way to go. You should do the BS mantras the next few days to get your swelling and pain down. I'm so sorry you are hurting. I hope you feel better really quickly.

I always think it's smart to stick with the same routine for a while, then if you want to add something, add one thing a week. Then it's is easy to figure out what the culprit is. Just remember, no weights, squatting, resistance bands until you're through month 3.

So tonight a lot of pain in the hip and foot. Spent today elevating and icing. Two hydrocodone snd still climbing the walls
