My principal and superintendent were anxious to get me back any way they could. Teaching children to read is an art as I'm sure you know and my sub was brand new out of college. When I left everyone was fine, a month later 6 kids were failing. At 3 weeks post op a friend drove me to school so I could do parent/teacher conferences for 5 hours (kept leg propped up) then 3 weeks later I was having phone conferences with parents whose children were now failing. So when I came in with a script for half days they said when can you start and where would you like to park. Even now being retired since June I get calls and texts asking questions!

Here I am not even allowed on campus until I get cleared. Where are you?

Your incision is looking pretty good! When the swelling goes down more I think your ROM will increase! Hang in there!

I'm in the suburbs of Pittsburgh. The day I took my script in for part time I visited with my class and read a book to them. If I had been able to Skype with the class my administration would've jumped on that. But because of my complications I just wasn't in any shape to do that and when I was at therapy or drs visits.

Went to my pcm and because I have lost 15 lbs and my a1c is 5 I need to stop eating like a diabetic and get some whole wheat carbs on board.

Thank for the support. I have slowed way down on the home pt. Today went to pt and he freed me from the walker around the house, but for safety on outside walks. Going to take time to rebuild strength in my hip to support my gate. I feel like I am learning how to walk again, lol. Recommendation, listen to Bonesmart mantra.

At some point you need to check your shoes for wear especially if your leg was not straight prior to surgery. I went to a store that caters to runners. There they measured my foot, watch my gait and checked the wear on my old sneakers. They then brought out a couple of pairs to try. I walked around the store for a while and selected one for work and one for home. The store will even let you return them after wearing them for a few weeks if you don't like them. It cost a bit more but I can purchase the same ones on line in the future. It helped my hip to ankle pains.

I know that everyone says its "normal" but this mess of not being able to sleep is driving me nuts! I like to sleep and I miss it!

Sleep whenever you can. In my first few weeks I was taking morning, afternoon and evening naps. Just because you can't sleep at night doesn't mean you have to go without it. Catch it when you can!

The lack of sleep was terrible for me! I napped often through the day, but I dreaded the night! Honestly didn't get a good night's sleep until I went back to work at 3 months.

I was but now I am up during most of the day, maybe a nap before dinner then up off and on at night. Someone suggested benadryl with the pain pills but it just made me loopy, not sleepy, shorter trip to loopy I guess.

Milestone! Stepped over the side of the tub instead of sitting on the chair to get in!

Yippee! I remember how I celebrated the time I could put that shower chair up! That is wonderful news...and you're only 1 month out! Keep up the good work!

Find some time in the afternoon to elevate and nap. It may be better than napping so close to bedtime and get your leg up a bit more. One Tylenol PM helped me get my sleep pattern back, but not for a while.

Is the skin sensitivity normal and how ling does it last? Any thoughts about how to make it less annoying?

Skin sensitivity is normal. I had a second surgery a month after my TKR which may be why I was senstive well into 4 months post op. I even wore pj/sweatpants to work because they were the only thing that didn't bother my knee. Take a look at this link, there's a YouTube video of a nighttime routine that has helped some with skin sensitivity at night. But only try this if your incision is healed with no scabs.

So surgery 2/14 and today is day 8. My script for pain meds has no refills and I am not supposed to take my nsaids. Is this the usual path? Have had serious pain even with the meds.
