I doubt that you did anything serious to the prosthesis, but you most certainly could have irritated the soft tissue in your knee. It does sound like you're pushing too hard....especially the weights. My suggestion would be to take both ibuprofen and Tylenol for a week or so, ice and elevate, and do only gentle activity to see how it feels. It is possible that an injury could take weeks to improve. But....if it's worrying you, make an appointment and talk with your doctor. Better that than to worry.

You should have nothing to worry about with the dental procedure of setting a crown. As your dentist said, the procedure stays above the gum line and you did take the antibiotics afterwards.

I agree with Jamie, if you're worried, call the dr. Sometimes you just need that reassurance that everything is normal or IF there is something wrong to get it taken care of quickly...

I was on oxycotton and oxycodone for the first two weeks and it made me sleep like a little baby. That's about all I did was sleep. That stuff knocked me out. After my perscription for the oxycotton expired I had a lot of sleep problems also. I am two months out of surgery now and I sleep pretty good now. I went back to work part time two weeks ago and was worried about that. I thoufght I would be so tired but working wore me out and I sleep pretty good now. :happydance:

I had an experience with my nerve block when I had my frist knee done. The nurse at the hospitial was suppose to turn my blocker down to start weening me off but turned it up accidently. I was suppose to go home the next day but PT wouldn't discharge me because I couldn't do the things the things I needed to do before letting me go home like going up stairs and getting into a bath tub. Because my leg was like a noodle and had no strenght and could not support me. At the hospitial it was that you have to do the things you will need to do at home before they will release you.
The other things I noticed about the pain block I heard the same comments after both knees was who ever put the pain blocker on my legs put it spot on because I was able to do things that most people couldn't do at that point. They told me if they had thier knee done they want the same person who did my pain blocker to do theirs. Several people were amazed on how well I was doing. They placed it perfect on both legs. I guess it depends on where the place it is how well it works.
This time they gave me the option to wear the blocker home becasue It still had a lot of fluid in it and when it was empty I could take it off myself. I decided to let them take it off and had it removed before I left. They timed my release out with pain meds so it wouldn't hurt so much when my wife picked me up and getting in and out of the car. But boy when the blocker wore off did I feel the difference.

Thanks, guys! I can tell the knee is some better today since I completely took yesterday off. I think I will follow the ice/elevate/Advil advice (Tylenol does not agree with me). I did also take a percocet for the first time in a long time last night before bed and got good sleep.

I have an appointment with the doc on the 17th so will just wait and see him then, unless this worsens. I think I will lay off the gym this week too, but it is the physical therapy gym, so have trusted them to know what is too much!
But then I did not tell him I had wrenched my knee either.

Thanks, Jamie!!

hiya Silver, just been catching up on the boards and sorry to hear that you're hurting.
I've been going through some stuff at the moment, but as far as my knee is concerned, it seems to have been the best therapy for it.
Just had two surgeries on my kidney and got more to go, and have been on two weeks bed rest. It's brought home to me that I've probably been overdoing things since going back to work, and that doing nothing hasn't harmed my knee in the least. In fact, I'm in less pain now going down stairs, and curling up in bed, than I was when I was doing all my PT and walking round the school and climbing stairs!.
What was it Josephine and the gang have been trying to nail into my head since july ?.. Less Pain, More Gain? I now actually believe that healing takes its own time, and needs to be allowed to do its thing !

Hope you feel better soon

I have a little pill box which is fairly tiny in my purse. I carry the antibiotics for the dentist in it. I have forgotton them too. K

Hi gang,
I am going to start carrying the antibiotics with me, good advice!!

Skyelark, you sound like you have been through the ringer!! I hope your kidneys are better and you are on the road to recovery. I am getting continuous UTI's, what did they do to you?? Glad you are getting much needed rest, I thought you were going pretty fast!!

I rested my leg on Sat and Sun and it helped A LOT, but I had house hunting appointments yesterday and today since I am relocating. My leg is very worn out and sore. Back to the bed with elevation and ice for me. The kneecap is better, not so swollen anymore. I am back to hurting below my knee but that has been the case forever. Does that ever go away????

I have my doc appointment on Monday, but may go ahead and go this week. Just for piece of mind.
I may also take a week off from exercising, what do you guys think? Sometimes it probably is too much, but I am so trying to get well and the PT people and the doc tell me to exercise, exercise, exercise.

Glad to be home with my ice!!

Silver

I have taken some time off from exercising from time to time and it was a good decision every time. It isn't like you are planning on stopping forever, just for a while to get a bit of healing from overuse. I say, Take a Break!!! Take good care of yourself!

Hiya Silver - so far, I've had two uteral stents put in. The UTIs that I thought i was continually having turned out to be a tumour on my kidney. The stent is to try and stretch the ureter to hopefully bring the tumour out endoscopically, but the first one moved, blocked my kidney output, and had to be replaced in the second surgery .
Still waiting for the biopsy results which will let me know if I'll be losing the tumour the 'easy (ouchie) way' or if it'll be major surgery to remove the whole kidney and ureter.

From the knee point of view, I'd say go for it and take a week off from exercising if you want. As I said above, I've found that my knee is feeling better than ever after resting it (albeit forcable resting..lol). It's probably been crying out for ages, 'FOR PETE'S SAKE, LEAVE ME ALONE AND LET ME HEAL'. The swelling is down, the ROM is better, my back and hip feel better. It needed a vacation :)

Get your feet up with a LONG good book, and veg out for a few days. All the best x x x x

Skyelark,
I hope all is well with you and that it all disappears!! I will be thinking about you. I a m wondering if I should go to a specialist with all my UTI's.
So, my knee. I have patellar tendinitis. I am back at PT, back on crutches, icing like crazy and resting a lot. They got me an anti-inflammatory shot and that has helped immensely but I am trying to take it easy (with the thousand things I have to do for the holidays and I do live alone). I am relieved I know what it is though. Took me forever to get in with the doc because he is doing a thousand year end surgeries.
Anyway, here's hoping that 2013 will be better and totally recovered!!

Silver

Has anyone else had patellar tendinitis and has recommendations?

Thanks! Silver

I will try again. Has anyone had patellar tendinitis and have any recommendations?

Happy New Year to all! Silver

Not me, Sorry!!! Well, sorry that I can't help, but not sorry not to have patellar tendinitis... I hope that you get someone who can help. Hang in there!

Silver.....since you want to ask some general questions about patellar tendonitis, go ahead and start a new thread and ask your question. I think people would be more likely to see it that way. We have had a few folks on BoneSmart who have had the problem, but they may not be active on the forum right now.

Hi all,

I am almost 6 month out of surgery and wrenched my knee accidentally (actually someone else did it) and now I am have patellar tendinitis in my the tendon in my kneecap. It is very painful, I am back on crutches when out of the house, back in PT, icing a lot and they do not want me to bend my knee (what an oxymoron!!).

Anyway, I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this? Any suggestions of what helped? How long did it last? I was just finally getting better and now it feels like I am going backwards again.

Thanks in advance! Silver

Hi Silver - so sorry you are suffering. I'm going to tag Jo and see if she can offer any advice on this. Josephine

Ooh, that's nasty! People do get this condition but generally it's nothing to do with the replacement. The usual treatment - you might recall - is rest, elevate, ice and pain meds! There are some exercises here which might help and if all else fails, get your surgeon to give you a shot of cortisone to encourage the healing.

Hi all,
I am 9 months with my LTKR and I still have a lot of nerve pain and just cannot walk well. My right knee and ankle are not so hot and I wonder how much that is effecting the healing of the left knee.
I can over do it VERY easily. I am packing up my house of 27 years and moving and it is NOT liking all this activity at all.
So I am frustrated because I think I should be farther along. It also pops sometimes as well and the doc says that is the kneecap.
Is that normal as well?

I have not been on in months so started a new thread. Hope that is okay.

Silver
