Kathy can you plase send me the details of it from Amazon. was going to make an appt with physio to be honest but only because Im worried about my ROM.

Hi Kathy. Got my goniometer this morning from amazon but not sure where the little circle in the middle is suposed to be on your knee. Is it at the top or more on the bend. No instructions with it. Help!!!!!!!!

Thats very good of you Rose. THank you so much. Dont think I will like what I see when I do it. I did it last night but not sure If I did it right. Will google and see. Thanks again. karmigirl

Oh sorry, I didn't see your 'help' message about the goniometer until now, robynhood Pat :boohoo:

I have been measuring my own knee and was pleased with the 110. But last night I asked Ray to measure me and he only got 100. So I must have been getting it wrong! I felt kind of angry with him that he could only measure 100 and not 110 - not his fault really, I know :heehee: So am disappointed that I haven't progressed with the ROM.

Feeling a little stiff since yesterday, but I put that down to the fact that I have started my exercise bike again, after the lay off with baby Rayan. I am doing ten minutes, three times a day - once before I go to work, once when I get home and once before I go to bed.

Hi Kathy nice to hear from you. I also got Karlea to measure my ROM last night and it was 95 so only 5 degrees better than last time but I supose thats better than nothing. Just a bit fed up with ROM numbers to be honest. Going to concentrate on the good things from my op. Ive had 0 extension since the day after my op, can go up and down stairs, drive my car in comfort and stand in a queue for ten minutes without my knee screaming at me. Thats good enough for me at the moment. Will concentrate on exercises and bike as usual not much ese I can do. Sorry but it made me laugh you not being pleased with ray for not getting the 110 :heehee: I would be the same with Gary. Blame them for the bad ROM. Its all their fault. Youre doing brilliant Kathy. Dont let a number get you down.

Hi Kathy and Pat,

Don't worry too much about the numbers but instead focus on function. I think you are spot on Pat; if you can do the things you want to do without pain, that is a great indicator of success.

Keep the faith, you are both doing well. This recovery is something we will always be working on I think!

Be well friends,

Dawn

Yep, numbers aren't really important at all. It's like your weight too. I had put on five pounds, so back to counting calories, but haven't weighed myself again, just plan to carry on until I feel better with myself.

Well, it WAS Ray's fault that I only measured 100 :heehee:

Darn right Kathy that it's Ray's fault! Darn guys, what do they know about numbers anyway!:heehee: You're too cute Kathy, and funny!:)

Now I have to agree, the numbers are really not that important. Its the functionallity that matters. Thats why I don't stress about how much bend or straightening I can do. I complain more of the soreness and stiffness I still get. But my knee is fairly functional now. I think I might be one that will keep some of the numbness on the outside of my knee. When it was sore lastnight, I noticed thats the area that felt most unhappy. Hugs!

Kathy, I'm pretty sure Ray wasn't using the goniometer properly, don't you think???
My PT said the best thing you can do for your knee is to use it normally, without favoring or weight shifting that we've gotten so used to. Then the function comes back.

Glad you agree with me, Jacky and Randi :heehee:

On a different note here is an example of how my sleep pattern is these days - or should I say, unpattern? Fell asleep after watching telly around 12:30 and woke at 2:00 am. Got up and spent a penny (although it's actually free in our house :heehee: ). Slept again until 3:55 am and then wide awake. Ray's alarm goes off at 5:45 am. I eventually get some shut eye for around half an hour before my alarm goes off at 6:45 am.

Boy oh boy, am beginning to wonder if I will ever have a regular sleeping routine again :what: :umm:  What d'ya think folks?

Sounds very familiar Kathy. Why does this interuppted sleep for soooooo long. Surely we should be able to get some sort of routine. Especially with you working as well, you must be shattered by the end of the day. Ive tried sleeping tablets the herbal ones, no good. Benadryl no good. If I wasnt on painkillers I would have a large glass of wine see if that works. Like you I can fall asleep so easily downstairs watching TV but as soon as I go to bed Im wide awake. And yes I do try and stay awake and come to bed earlier try to fall asleep in bed and not downstairs. Dosent work. HELLLPPPPPPPP

I have learned that if I do not sleep well for a period of time, THAT becomes my new pattern. The most common pattern being waking up after an hour and a half of sleeping and then being awake for two hours. I hate to say it but I sleep much better in the guest room with no interruptions, snoring, etc. Most of the time I take melatonin and if that isn't working I take something stronger (not the same night, the next night). If I get good sleep for one week it seems to reset to the new pattern and I do better. It is a fact the wine does NOT help because you fall asleep but then wake up when the wine wears off (with the subsequent CNS agitation.) Also it seems counter intuitive but a hot bath or shower before bed helps, has something to do with cooling the internal body temp as you cool off from the bath.

Randi, that is exactly my normal sleep pattern these days. Get a real good sleep for maybe one to one and a half hours, wake up and that's it!

For the past three nights I have taken 'Sleepeaze' tablets - bought over the counter at Boots. Friday night I took two and slept right through until 9:00 am Saturday - great! Saturday night and last night I only took one, but didn't sleep right through. Woke up a couple of times, but managed to get back to sleep after a while each time.

I really don't want to depend on these tablets. But what to do? Yesterday I felt mentally and physcially exhaused, my whole body didn't have any energy and it was a real effort to cook the roast dinner. I put that down to the tablets, right or wrong?

Will give them a miss tonight and see what happens. I find this so frustrating as I have never suffered from insomnia before in my life.

Oh and I seemed to get the constipation back last week. So I took some medicine plus Laxative, now I can't stop going :tada:

Kathy, just think of the weight loss!!!! I had my 1st night of sleep last night without taking any sleeping tablets....might have been the 2 pints of Stella & a bottle of wine that did it for me :loll: Paying for it today though
I might go & buy some of those sleepeaze tablets & see what happens.

:heehee: :heehee: Mutely. I need to lose the weight as I know I have put on a few pounds after being a piggy :heehee:

Er yes, the beer and wine just might have played a part in your sleep, but good for you and why not, aye  I've become a bit of a recluse lately in the social department. Was known at work as being a party animal before my op, but have become a boring old f*rt since. Must rectify that!

Sometimes waking in the night can become a habit, try not getting up to the loo, and try to turn over and fall back to sleep. This does not apply to the months after op when we all have trouble sleeping but maybe when we are more back to 'normal'
