THR Kathi’s Jan 30 RTHR

What a great report :happydance:

(If the PT is a good partnership of minds that's benefitting you, excellent! Only you can answer that)

I’ll share my scar after removing all his ink marks!
Don't worry about those ink marks! They are part of the journey. Mine took weeks to finally disappear.

Sounds like a great checkup. Glad you got reassurance about traveling in April.

The PT seems to have got me a place in the ODIC! I‘m not sure which exercise did it but my knee stings, burns and hurts when standing and walking! The step up and down may be too steep and side step up and down was new too! No pain seated! I’m going to ice and elevate and cancel next PT session!

Is this a sign of DVT?

I'd say it's just a sign of ODIC, icing and resting will let you know when it improves. My IT Band is what would cause the burning and stinging at my knee if I overdid it.

Normally it's pain and swelling post PT into the evening, but sometimes not until the next day.
You likely overdid it. Ice, rest and consider stepping away from PT until you're feeling better.
Happy One Month Anniversary!

Nope, this sounds like classic ODIC! I agree with you that the two step exercises are likely culprits.

(DVT generally doesn't manifest in the areas most prone to our overdoing things; it's most common in the lower leg)

That’s a relief! I never hear much about how DVT manifests so imagined the worst! So glad you all are there to take anxiety away!:)

Week 7

I haven't used my cane in a week since I healed from the bursitis! I wrapped my thigh with a thigh compression wrap and that kept me walking until it healed from overdoing! It eliminated the pain which still hurt when I took it off so I put it on most days when I got up in the morning! I started applying voltran and aspercream ointments too!

I ice and elevate often and still get tired!

Saw family Doctor and she wouldn’t give me anything for anxiety based on assessment! So I guess I’ll suffer through.‍ She did say Voltran diclofenac gel is safe to apply with internal ibuprofen use which is warned against in the instructions! They do scare us! It helps swelling and pain a lot and if your doctor allows it, give it a try!

PT gave me exercises for IT Band (bee stinging in front of thighs) and the bursitis! Only 2 more times PT before Easter and a small road trip! Then I see surgeon for X-rays and hopefully get cleared!
I have started driving small distances! Good to have my freedom back!

I have started to forget my hip and that I have to be careful not to overdo! I think my walking is pretty normal with no limp unless I get tired!

I am increasing my walking distance but staying off unlevel soil and hills for now! I
walk on a flat track or in stores.

I carry around a pillow seat cushion which I use in situations where the seat is low! I find sitting is irritating me a lot and try to stand often!

I have done a few stairs but am nervous about doing a full flight which I may need to do soon when we travel! I may push for a downstairs couch!

I worry about falling, getting bumped into, car accident and what could happen! All this may be irrational! I’m told it takes a long time to overcome that worry!

I am excited to keep improving! I’m still swollen in the right side of hip and knee area but only pain after sitting a long time!

I pray everyone continues to improve and that we all avoid setbacks!

What a great update!
Enjoy your road trip - do take breaks to walk and stretch, and consider packing a small cooler with cold packs.

Thanks Mendogal! I do plan to bring ice cold packs and ice chest!

Thanks for sharing your progress. You're doing great, kathibean! :thumb:

That's natural. The more time that passes and the more active you become, those thoughts and worries will fade.
Consider bringing a cane when you're out in public if you're worried someone may bump into you. Only for the time being, even if you don't need it. People normally have enough sense to steer clear of those using assistive devices.

Safe travels on your road trip :driver: ENJOY!

Happy Two Month Anniversary, kathibean!

Have a wonderful road trip and Easter! Safe travels too!
@kathibean01

Thank you! My trip was wonderful and no negative effects happened!

I can walk some uneven ground and hills now! I did the stairs (around 15)!

Still swollen so I still ice but seem to be forgetting my hip surgery more as time goes on!

I had my 8 week checkup with X-rays and all is normal! No more pt just keep exercising!

Followup in 4 months!

I have noticed I sleep well now with
no pain in the hip or leg so that is a very good outcome!

Hope everyone is healing and on to pain free living!

What a wonderful update! Thanks for taking time to share. You're doing so well!
I hope Spring / Summer 2024 is one of your best. :)
