Meanwhile, I still haven't heard back from my PCP on which BP med I should drop to rid myself of the BP tanking during PT.

I visited my rehab facility today for the first time since they kicked me out. I was told by a number of different people that my name is still being brought up as an example of fast recoveries. # proud But, my wife still can't understand how I don't want to take a walk with her this afternoon, after multiple walking events during the day and a game night this evening.

You wife will just have to get used to going at your pace. Little does she know just how well you are doing this early in recovery. Good luck with your game night!

She just read your response. I hope she understands from peers points of view.

yeah, I am wondering about that first warm bath. Also, I retired my risers at 3 weeks. :heehee:

A Disagreement

Jeff: I want to transition to sleeping normally, without the wedge, so I can sleep on my sides.
Knees: We don't think that's a good idea, Jeff.
J: Why not? We'll get some quality sleep. That's good, right?
K: We're advising you against it.
J: Oh don't worry. It's been a full month. Give it a shot!
K: Oh Jeff, you're right. [Smirk] We believe you. Uh huh.. You're so smart. .. [sigh]
J: See? I knew you'd see it my way!

[2 hours later]

J: Owww! Ugh! Damn!
K: Feel better now?
J: NO! Why'd you let me do it?
K: We thought you were smarter than you look. (Idiot!)
J: [admin edit]
[admin edit]: Watch it, buddy! You don't want to confront me!
J: Ok, OK.. I yield. You win!
K: Tell us something we didn't know, Shmutz for Brains!
Brain: whoa..I don't care who the heck you are, [admin edit]
Knees: Gah! Sorry sir!
J: Can we go back to sleep, Sirs? I'll try really hard to be good.

K/A/B: Certainly! [Snicker]

As everyone here says, it's the knees that call the shots. :snork: It's interesting though that different knees call different shots. My knees would not allow me to sleep on my stomach or back. From my first day home, I slept on my right side with a pillow between my legs. In the past two weeks, they have allowed me to sleep on my left side too. One day maybe they'll allow me to sleep on my back. (I haven't asked yet)

I got a little cocky a few nights ago thought I was going to asleep on the side where my surgical leg was on top, well the knee got the last word as I woke up with some weird shooting pain and in tears! The up side of the story is I got to see classic episodes of my three sons and petticoat Junction in the middle of the night as I was icing and trying to calm everyone down.

Jeff, I'm getting a little tired of my knee running my life too but I guess that it used to just a different way....

Yep the knees are the boss. Sometimes you need to be a bit insubordinate though to test the waters. :heehee:

Yep! That's the way I do it! My wife adds, "just like a toddler! "

OK, Jeff. I think you have to become a permanent member of this forum. Conversations with our knees? Oh, yeah. Perfect. You'd be our comic relief. But it's a very good way to convey how the knee(s) is(are) boss(es).

BTW, if you find you have to call your PCP office again about BP meds, just tell them you had a near syncopal episode and you'd hate to fall on your post-op knee and yet you are tempted to be a noncompliant patient and just drop one of those meds willy-nilly!

This is why I am firmly of the belief that everyone having TKR visit their PCP after their surgery. Nearly all of us have some condition that gets impacted by this surgery. I have cluster headaches, which went wild with the percocet, plus my blood pressure tends to be low, and the drug to prevent cluster headaches is a BP drug, and the percocet no doubt lowers BP. I'm sure I was down in the 70s one day.

Lol. .It is the truth. . They talk. It's just that we're not good listeners.
Btw, she (pcp)finally called, said she had tried to call the day before (I was here and I have this new thing called caller id) and reduced the hctz/lisinopril cocktail. We'll see how that works.

That's interesting. .. I skipped my hctz/lisinopril dose completely this morning (8 hrs ago) and my BP is 122/71!

I had to dump my alpha blocker after surgery, sent my BP down too low. Did this on my own, PCP was on vacation. BP right where is should be for now. If it starts inching up I will slowly re introduce the alpha blocker.
We do not have caller ID, we just let calls go to the message machine for screening.

I've never been this focused on my BP. But this is a good thing now that there are so many changed to monitor.
I keep on thinking about my parents' ills as they just went from doctor to doctor, blindly doing what they were told, not complaining about complications and really not having much choice then about being their own advocates and being key players of their own medical teams.

It's wonderful living in such a relatively enlightened age!

A Staff Meeting

Brain: Call to order. Issues? The Head recognizes our newest members, Knees

Knees: Thank you. We're rested. Gaining mobility and a lithe strength, but we've got a ton of weight to support and that's making it harder to complete our healing mission.

Digestive system: I can help out a bit. This idiot buys a cook it yourself stromboli. He doesn't think it'll bother him. [Chuckle] this is going to be worth at least 2 pounds for you.
Also, I got him to cancel going to that party by speeding up the digestion a bit. That should save him from gaining at least a few more pounds from that.

K: Thank you so much! Pain meds are helpingme cope so we're good there.
B: Excellent progress. Reproductive system. You look bored. ..
RS: Zaza. Huh? Wha? No. . Nothing to report. .. Can I leave now?
Knees: Oh, I just overheard he and his daughter are taking his wife out to Mexican for Mother's day. Any ideas?
DS: Ideas? Are you kidding? This is perfect. Knees, you got a win-win. If he goes, whatever goes in, I can ensure, will exit the front door. But I can tweak this so he doesn't even want to.
Knees: Great idea. I can help by throwing in a little spike here and there, too!
Brain: Anything else? No? Okay, then we're done for now.

Thanks! Actually that spoiling task I'm delegating to my daughter who's taking her shopping and the to that Mexican restaurant. I feel much better today and actually Just came in from doing gardening chores for the first time this year. Other than tired, my knees felt great! Very happy. Have a great day!
