THR July Hip Replacement - When will I ski again?<

I made it through my first 6 hour day worked from 6:30am until 1:00 pm with a few short breaks.
tomorrow is a busy day for me. I need to drive my daughter and her friend to school.45 min. away ( likely an hour with morning traffic) @ 7 AM. Then have water therapy at noon. Before that I'll go into the office and work from 9:00 - 11:45 am, then return after therapy for a meeting at 2:00. I'll likely be awake at 4:30 am until I get home around 3:30/4:00. It will be a very long day. Not sure I'm ready. I was tired at 11:00 am today & made some tea to get through to lunch.

This is my plan for today. I’m not sure, I’m on my way to take my daughter to school now. I already worked 1 hour from home. Hope I can stay awake for my 2:00 meeting.

Hi! I survived my crazy schedule today. Left the house at 7 am & didn't get home until 3:30 pm. I tried to nap from 4 - 5 but was not able to fall asleep. Got up made dinner then went up to bed to rest. Lying here now writing this. Tomorrow will not be so busy.

Today was another long day & didn't find time to nap. Awoke at 5 AM, slept 6.5 hrs. Got ready for my day & left at 7:05 am, drove my daughter to school an hr. away, then drove to work another 45 min. commute. Worked an hr. then went to water therapy. Back to work til 3:30 pm. Had to stop at a friend's house to switch cars. I'm driving her car to Maine this weekend. I'll stop in MA & stay with my mom overnight then continue to Maine Saturday morning. So I didn't get home until 5pm. Took some Tylenol, heated up leftover pizza, then helped my daughter with pre-calc ( imaginary #s) . Now just resting waiting to take Tylenol at 10pm then will sleep for the night. I'm so tired so thinking I might get 8 hrs tonight before my trip tomorrow. Luckily my boss agreed to let me work 4 days this week & next so I can take off tomorrow & Monday to travel.

Safe travels. I hope you get the rest you need tonight.
Enjoy your time with mom and have fun on your trip to Maine.
@Lski

Update: survived my drive to MA yesterday. Left PA at 8:00 AM. Made 1st stop at 9:15 and logged onto my work laptop to put my out of office reply on & review one quote submission that I promised to release the quote for by end of day. Was there until 10:00 then continued on and stopped again around 11:45 for a break. Then continued on until I reached the outlets in Lee,MA. There I stopped to get a couple things for my daughter at Aero. & used the rest room. Arrived at my moms by 3:00. The next morning I had to stop at Firestone to have them check the rear passenger tire ( the wall had been scraped). It was fine to keep driving to ME. Stopped 3 times on the way and arrived in Belfast at 1:50 pm.
Enjoyed the ocean view from the front porch & had a great scallop dinner. Now time to rest. Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Enjoy the rest of your time in Maine. I love Maine.
Safe travels home.

@Lski I am in awe of your adventures! Following my 1st op, my leg was pretty squirmy in the car for a while. (But I had to change a diaper on the floor in 3 weeks :heehee:!). Have so much fun!

@Toddlermom Thanks for following my journey. Luckily I'm not chasing little ones. Just have the 16 yr old that keeps me on my toes.

I'm having a great time in Maine. H
I had all the seafood I needed. Scallops for supper last night, shrimp & steak for lunch today and saved the best for last fresh lobster dinner followed by chocolate mousse cake. It's been a delightful trip. I didn't feel so great after lunch. I blame the cucumber that apparently decided to go in one end and out the other at a very fast pace. I took an Imodium then fell asleep until 6 pm. I felt so much better when I woke up and was able to enjoy dinner then watched a program on Netflix with my dear friend about midwives in London.
It's been fun but will be catching a train home in the morning. My challenge will be getting all my stuff into just 2 bags. I have one bag with a blow up foot rest, which I can deflate if needed but hoping they will let me on without having to deflate then blow up again to elevate my legs. Otherwise I can get everything else in 2 bags.

I need to get to bed now, goodnight.

It's nice to hear you had a lovely getaway.
Happy Two Month Anniversary! That's reason enough to celebrate.
Hope you made it home safely.

At month 2 this week and trying to work 7hr. days. Returning Tuesday after taking Friday & Monday off was stressful & challenging as all my work piled up. I was up at 5am after only sleeping 5hrs, since I didn't get home until 11 pm. I had a 2hr. commute to work, since I dropped my daughter off at school an hour away then work is another hour from there. Worked in the office from 8:45 am - 11:45 am then water therapy at noon.

Took a shower after so didn't get home until 1:45 pm (stopped for veggies at produce store). I had a webex meeting at 2:00, then had to get some quotes done & review one with the boss for approval which took until 5:45 pm. I took a break for dinner then did a bit more work from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. That was the longest 7 hour work day ever. I realized this schedule is unsustainable, so called my OS to change my work schedule to only 6 hours on therapy days.

Today I awoke after 5 hrs of sleep at 3:00 am. The vocational disability coach suggested I just start my Dr if I'm up and can't sleep, so I went downstairs for tea & started working from 3:45 - 6:45 am. I went upstairs to get dressed then went to the office and arrived at 7:45am. I stayed until.12:30.

I got home and had lunch while helping my daughter with her pre-calc. Then made a couple phone calls, took Tylenol at 2:00 and fell asleep until 3:45. Then awoke to take my daughter to work. Back home by 4:30, checked work email & defrosted sauce for dinner. Made a salad and ate dinner. Now I'm posting this.

I'm tired and wonder when I will be able to sleep 8 hrs at night again.

Hi,
Have you tried Magnesium for sleep?
I can understand why you're tired in reading your post.
You're not just going to work and sitting there, you're doing a lot of running around aside from work.
Are you having a hard time relaxing?
@Lski

@Layla , I am taking Magnesium. I can easily fall asleep. I just said up after 5 or 6hrs. The problem is I can't get back to.sleep. I have too much on my mind so just best to get up and start my day If a work day. I can rest on a weekend. It's busy season so even without recovery I'd be tired. just got to hang in through November when activity at work is more manageable.

Only sleeping 5-6 hrs each night would be frustrating after awhile.
Hurry up end of November so Lski can get some sleep! :alarm:
Wishing you 7 hrs of shut eye tonight. :yawn: :sleep:
@Lski

Layla, Josephine I need some advice. I can't sleep a full 8 hours at night. I am supposed to be at full time 8 hour days starting on 9/24.

I can't handle more than 6 on the 2 days of water therapy. My OS office will only change my reduced work schedule for this accommodation thru 10/7, 12 weeks out.

The problem I see is I can't function on 5-6 hours of sleep, for 8-12hrs. It's busy season at work so if I'm released to full time work no accommodations I'll be expected to put in overtime like my co-workers. I'm afraid I'll make errors & be too cranky to respond appropriately to stressful challenging situations which I find myself in daily ( it's the nature of the job).

The OS nurse said I need to see my general Dr to get an extension on the TWA. It must be another reason besides THE recovery that I can't sleep. She didn't understand energy drain. She and my boss said I should be fine to work my regular schedule. The nurse thinks I should just cut out water therapy and walk. It is my only exercise & I feel I need it to recover. I won't have time to walk if I have to work 8-12 hr days. Is there an article on energy drain I can share with my boss & doctor from an industry expert?

I'm being told I'm reverting by my boss, since I've had to work through nap times, due to business needs & not functioning at 100%.

I scheduled a visit for tomorrow with my PCP. Any advice on how to convince him to approve my request to extend my accommodations for work to the end of October.?

Thanks

Hello...
First off, I'm really sorry you're struggling with this. I've been aware, you've mentioned this before. My heart goes out to you. Feeling tired all the time is miserable.

It's unbelievable that the nurse, a member of your OS's care team, doesn't understand suffering Energy Drain
at only two months post op from major surgery. Your boss is not a doctor, nor has she experienced THR, so she's unqualified to determine your physical and mental capability at this point.

I do agree that you should cut out the water therapy for now. I don't feel it's necessary and it only adds to your hectic schedule, takes additional drive time and moving from location to location. You could pick it up at a later date when you're sleeping better, feeling more rested and less fragmented mentally.

I'd explain to your PCP tomorrow what you've explained here and go from there. If you have no other employment option, you may need to curtail all other activity and save your efforts and energy for work. At least through (busy season) November. Your family may need to step up and assist in household duties and running errands, for the time being.

Consider increasing your Magnesium supplementation and practice some relaxation techniques in an effort to aid with sleep.

I wish you the best moving forward and pray you get the restorative rest you need. Let us know how your doctor appt. goes tomorrow.

Here is an article on Energy Drain -
