Wow Okie - hats off to you for doing all the shift work. It's tough on you as well as the family. Hope you get a bit of down time today!

Hello everyone. Time for another short update. The hips are doing pretty good. Ten hours shift in the patrol car seem to make my hips a little sore and stiff. Exspecially my right hip. Well it is more of the muscles in the right upper thigh. I find that i have to get out every couple of hours and walk around to stretch. That fells SOOOOO good some times. I have been having a little pain. Right in the hip joint itself. It feels like getting a shot. Kind of like being pinched real hard and then a little burn. It doesn't last long, and doesn't slow me down or anything but it sure is annoying. The stiffness and soreness from being in the car has me back on ibuprophen a couple of times a week. But at least it isn't the prescribed pain meds. I figure the soreness, stiffness and the sharp pinches are all part of healing so I don't pay too much attention to it. I have noticed that those "pinches" are most often if I have worked outside more. This weekend I mowed about two acres on the riding mower. That just mad me stiff. Other than that, no complaints. The surgeries were the best thing I have ever done for myself. Check in with everyone later.

Hi Okie

Lovely to hear from you with an update... missed you

I think given you have had both hips done, working two jobs, shift work, working your property ...... You are amazing!

I feel such a sense of achievement to be able to just walk around the office most days.

I am in awe of you  and wonderful to hear from you my friend 

Say hi to the family :)
Sandy

Hippie, Hippie...Hooray!!!!!

Hi Jamie... We were posting at the same time :) how are you honey?

Really good.

Guess that makes us "Poster Sisters"!!

Yes, that is what we will be from now on... I like that 

Hi Okie, your post about 10 hrs in a patrol car. We must be in the same job, those are my exact words too. I only had one hip done.
Take care.
Mike

Hi okie

Thanks for the PM and checking up on me, much appreciated.

How are you going with pinching type of pain you mentioned!

Say hi to the okie family :)

Hi Sandy,

This week has been better than last. I have only taken ibuprophen once since I made the last post. I just finished my last shift for the week and I am trying to decide if I should go to sleep after working all night or grab a fishing pole and try to catch some crappie. Yummy Yummy !!! This time of year in Oklahoma they come up to shallow water to spawn and they are usually hungry. I am kind of tired but I didn't get to go at all last year because it hurt too much to walk up and down the banks. The temperature is supposed to be in the mid 80's by lunch time. Ok, I think I decided. Wish me luck, I gotta go find my fishing pole. I think my son may have used it. I'll let you know if I catch something.

Well I just got back from fishing and still haven't been to sleep yet. The fish weren't biting much, I only caught three little ones. The good news is I didn't even think about my hips the whole time. It is so good to have my outdoor life back. :yes 4:

I had an interesting shift the other day. Some guy called his dad and said he wanted to die. The guy was an adult and I am not playing this down but we get these calls a few time every week. On this one the guy told his dad that he was walking around outside with a rifle and wanted to commit suicide by cop. When we got there he must have changed his mind because he was no where to be found. After searching the area I found out that the father is 30 miles away in another town. No one had even seen this man. All of our information was coming from the father and he was getting the information from his son over the phone. The son was supposed to have been very intoxicated. We never did find him but there has been no further calls. I suspect he sobered up and came home. The interesting part was that I creeped through this trailer park while holding a shotgun, climbed fences, and did everything I used to do as a young cop only this time with out any pain. The difference now is I went around the back of the park in the dark areas instead of in the open well lit areas where as a younger cop I would have been a much easier target. Some times getting older IS better. Experience is everything!!!

Right Okie, you know the saying, we're not getting older, we're getting better. Great news about "forgetting" about the hip...real sign of progress and healing. all the best to you and happy fishing.

Sad story but I am so glad you are seeing the benefits of your shiny new hip! Long may it continue!

Hi okie

Older and wiser, yes that is what automatically happens to us I reckon when we have hip surgery...

Don't you go getting into too much trouble :)

Any luck with the other job to go full time with it?

Time to get you off those dangerous streets I reckon... Say hi to the family :)

Happy Easter :)

Hello again. Things are pretty much the same around here. It is kind of funny but befor the surgeries I was always looking to sit down some where and now I am the one that gets up and lets some one else have the chair. I tend to stand longer than my younger coworkers. Sitting in the car all night no longer makes me sore but I still get kind of stiff. Bending down is not to bad but the getting up part is still a little slow. Occassionally I will over do things and have a little pain in the hips but nothing too bad. I did pop a rib out of socket this weekend and that did not feel good at all. I went to the chiropractor Monday morning and he had me up and moving fine in 20 minutes. I did a lot of yard work this weekend and some times if I over stretch a rib or two on my left side will come out of place. The first time it happened four came out at once. I thought I was having a heart attack ! I was still sore from that yesterday but the kevlar vest makes for good support and now I dont even notice it. The kids are growing up on me. My youngest is going to the prom for the first time this year. He is not a boyfriend but just a friend that wanted to have some one with him at the prom. My girl looks all grown up in the dress. I think I am going to have a talk with the boy before Saturday. Friend date or not he needs to fear me just a little :arghh:. He does seem like a nice young man but so was I and that scares me.

Sandy, you asked about the other job I was trying for. Well I tested last week and was told that I did not score high enough on one of the four test. I was really bummed. They called me and left a message telling me that I could retest if I did it by this Friday. So I called them back a left word that I wanted to retest but did not hear anything. I was getting worried. Well this morning they called back and said that they had told me the wrong scores that I needed. The scores they told me that I had to have were for a job of a higher level. So this means that I passed all my test and now I just have to wait for a date and time for the interview. If I get the job I will be able to retire from police work and start a new career. The new job will be a few dollars an hour cut in pay but I will be able to draw my retirement and that will actually give me a substancial raise. Yes I know I am rambling and my spelling is probably off, but I am excited to hear from the new company and I need to go to sleep. Last night was a long one.

Hope everyone is doing fine, I'll try to keep ya posted.

Hey okie

Great to hear from you.

I am so excited for you about the other job, I am sure you will get it.. Strange how things work out isn't it.. They must want you because they were going to let you sit the test again and then, miracle, then rechecked, recounted and found you had passed... I am so thrilled for you. When I think of all those nights we have communicated whilst you were on night duty, sitting in the patrol car, knowing that you are over the otherwise of the world doing such a dangerous job.... I can't wait to hear !!

Say hi to your daughter for me and tell her, her Aussie friend says
''have fun''. This is such an exciting time of her life. How is her car going?

Well my good friend, fingers crossed.... But I feel sure it is in the bag :)

Say hi to the rest of the family - I owe you an email, hugs to all of you :)
