Hi guys and gals,
It has been a long time since I posted anything. It has been about 17 months since my first hip replacement. People are amazed when I tell them about it. I always say the same thing.....It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I rarely have any pains from my hips anymore. If I do it is more from being a little over weight and out of shape than it is from surgeries. My son and I tested them out pretty hard this week. I worked Tuesday night and came home for a 2 hour nap. When I got up we packed our camping stuff and went to the lake. We hiked in about 5 1/2 miles and set up the tent. I was soooooo tired that the tent and sleeping bag looked like a five star hotel. My backpack weight 45 pounds and Jakes was 55 pounds. He is bigger and stronger than I am now so he got the heavier pack. We had planned to start out again the next morning and go another 4 miles to a primative camp site but when we woke up the next morning the temperature had dropped and it was sleeting. We decided that there was no shame in retreat so we packed up and headed for the truck. It was real nice to be home where it was dry and warm. The hips were about the only thing that did not hurt. I am still slow to get up from the sore calf muscles. What was I thinking ????? I knew it would be tuff but those are memories with my son that will last forever.
Hi Poppet !!!!! Here is a little home life update. Jake graduates from high school this year. Looks like he will be getting a little scholarship for college. Katie is taking college classes this summer while still in high school. It will help her when she graduates. I interviewed with the Oklahoma Park Rangers this past week. The next day I received a phone call saying that I have the job if I pass a few pre-employement test. Health screen, polygraph, and a back ground check. If all goes well I will be retiring from the police department by the first of May!!!!!
Cindy is talking about selling our house and moving to the lake. That will be nice but I have to have enough land to play with the tractor. ha ha. At this time we are busy planning a 50th anniversary party for my parents. That is a mess so far. I told my kids to buy us a steak dinner and call it good enough.
I know these post are supposed to stay on target about hips and knees but I like to put in the personal family stuff let others know that life does return to normal and WITHOUT pain! Before surgery I was the guy that just sat out of everyones way and watched. Now I can do the things I am writing about...I am a Dad that takes his son hiking because the son wants to....I am the Dad that works on his daughter's truck because it cost too much to take it to the shop...I am the husband that sweeps the floor and folds laundry because the wife works full time too....I am the son that helps plan a special event for his parents...I am nolonger feeling depressed because I can only sit in pain and watch others do things I can not do. It is good to feel HUMAN again!!!
