There ya go Okie! I just knew when I met you on the Pre-op side, that you would do it! You are inspirational! Two brand new hips for Christmas! :yay:!!!

Good for you, Okie!!!! You might as well get it all behind you now so you can go on and enjoy your life.

I got the word today. I go to the hospital tomorrow for pre-op again then I have my second hip replacement surgery next Tuesday November 29th. I have to call the personell department tomorrow and make sure the city manager will aprove my extended family medical leave. I am told it should not be a problem to get the extention. My wife and I are getting things ready again. Not much to do this time. I am told that I should be able to go back to work with out limitations by the end of February. The OS nurse says that if I heal as quick as I am now then It would probably be the end of January.

Way to go Okie! Moving right along! Best of luck to you my friend. Please do keep us posted along the way. We are here once again to help you thru it. Best :thumb:

Wonderful news!!! Now you REALLY have something to be thankful for this year.

Wow - you are on your way! Well done. 2012 will be your year!

Surgery was tuesday. OS said all went well. All was great until last night. Thigh muscles on both legs very sore. Non-surgery leg is worse for some reason. Nurse a little slow with pain mess. Hurt too bad to walk. Pain meds and ice are helping and now walking with walker. Waiting for OS to come to know if I go home tonight. Daughter wants her iPod back, will update later.

Okie, they need to manage your pain better. Can your daughter speak to them for you? Perhaps once you get home you can adjust your pain meds more timely and adequately. Make sure they send you home with the strong stuff and have plenty of ice on hand!

Hang in there Okie :friends:. It's all behind you now! Way to go Mister! Proud of you!

Hi okie

So pleased it is over, I am sure the little road bumps will sort out. Get the Meds and hopefully get home where you can have more control with the regularity of Meds, elevate, ice and rest.

Bring on the ice, I say.....

So pleased to hear from you, will chat soon. Rest now :) :)

Well done Okie! Janet is right - get that pain meds cocktail right. Things will only get better and better from here!

I am home now and things are much better. I had to laugh at my typing when I first posted an update. I guess the morphin had not worn off as much as I thought it had. OS had prescribed 1 or 2 Norco every 6 hours. I was taking only one in the hospital but they made me wait 6 hours for another dose. I need only half a pill every 3 or 4 hours to control the pain and a full Norco 10 gives me the sweats and then the chills. This is why I break them in half. My OS knows that I have been doing this but it was not ordered that way, so most of my nurses would not break them. The last night I explained it to my night nurse and she broke the pill in half and said she would be right back. She came back in and asked if I took it all and winked. Three hours later I took the other half. There has been a lot more pain with this surgery. Not when I am laying still but when I try to move. I don't feel as strong this time. I need the cane to push up out of a chair or the bed to get to my walker. Can't always get up the first try. I am sleeping ok. I get up about 4:30 each morning and change because of the Norco sweats I get at night. Some times when I walk I have to remind my leg how to take a step. I go to take a step and the leg doesn't move. It is getting better now though. My wife is worried because I am running a low grade fever. Between 99.0 to 100.4 My home nurse came this morning and said to call if it gets to 101. Well thats about all the knew information. I think will lay down and rest for a while.

Hi okie

So pleased you are home, do keep on top of that fever though..

It is so great to know you are over the other side with number two.

Take care, thinking of you :) Sandy

Welcome home Okie!

Of course you are tired. You have had two major surgeries in a short space of time. Major healing going on.

Hope you can get some rest and get that pain managed. Hang in there - you know it does get better!

Hi okie

Just checking to see how you are going?

Sandy

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in a while. Just being lazy and sitting around the house. I do a little light laundry and dishes while sitting in a tall chair. I am walking really good now. I haven't touched my walker in almost two weeks and I stopped using the cane about 7 days ago. I was so weak and couldn't take a step with out holding onto something or using my walker and then one day things changed. I was doing something in the house and my daughter said "where's your walker?!" I told her I don't know. I had left it in the other room and walked away from it without thinking. After that I just used the cane unless I walked out to check on the animals. I would use the walker then because of the uneven ground. That lasted less than a week and then the cane got put away a few days later. My physical therapy lady came by Friday and after a good workout she signed off and released me from therapy with notes to continue the excercises. I was down to one half a pain pill a day and today I have not had to take any. I will keep them handy though, this will be a long week. We are having Christmas dinner at my house this year. I am going to smoke two turkeys friday. Wish me luck. This is the first time to put a turkey in the smoker. I also am making some of the Christmas candy this year to take part of the load off my wife. And my 15 year old daughter is making home made bread and rolls. It has been raining kind of hard and the weather man says we have a chance for snow Friday. Looks like I may have to climb up on the tractor and blade the mile private road Thursday or Friday. Well that about catches things up for me. I want to say thanks to everyone for being such good friends and support over the last couple of months. Merry Christmas everyone!

Hi okie

Welcome to the other side! Sounds like you're doing really well but as the others have said take it easy.

Wishing you the best of recovery!!
Buffi

THAT'S the way to do it! No planning, no targets - just forget to use it! Excellent!

Happiest of Holidays and a Healthy New Year!
