Hip Infection* Izabel, Walking on Sunshine

Thank you all for your good wishes, they are appreciated.

Quick question ... on Saturday, at just over 5 weeks out from Spacer insertion, I developed a bruise on my hip across top of the incision. It is neither swollen nor hurts. On Thursday I started doing full rotations on the peddler (Backwards and only 20) and Friday when I went to the hospital I had to unexpectedly give a urine sample and hubby had to help me manoevre onto the all too low toilet and back into the wheelchair. Could all this have caused this slight trauma?

Just thought I'd check in and see how you're feeling today. I know you had some concerns on Monday (and I am not at all qualified to answer those questions you posted, sorry).

Thank you for thinking of me @SwampHiker and I am pleased to read you seem to be doing so well in such a short period of time. How do the muscles feel with the lengthening?

@clodaghcov I tried that shampoo today and my hair turned out nice. I am sure it is easier with shorter hair, mine is shoulder blade length and fairly thick and still a strawberry blonde at my age! I also tried the body wash. I saw the NHS uses this and there are boxes that say "Name" on the bottles.

I have been using Witch Hazel on the bruises and taping a cotton pad soaked in it to my thigh. I believe it is subsiding and I still do not have pain or swelling so assume it is from the awkward movements. I am still using the peddler, leg energizer and standing on one leg exercises with the affected leg but still no go with the walker.

I hope everyone is feeling well and continuing with their respective progresses.

Hi Izabel, hope things are going okay for you today and you are looking forward to your Bacalhau at Christmas.

Dean

@Izabel I am glad you're not having pain and the bruising is subsiding. I use the same method for bruising, except I use white vinegar. It's good that you stay moving. You'll have plenty of time to use that walker once they get a new hip in you.

Thank you. These muscles are happy as long as I'm not moving lol. I know it's just going to take a lot of time, patience and persistence until it feels relaxed, normal and functional.

Hi @Jamesdean. I can't stand Bacalhau at any time, let alone Christmas! We were invited to our Portuguese neighbours to experience this once ... never again, also the ghastly boiled kale with boiled eggs that accompanies it! :eeeuw: I don;t like Portuguese food in general and being an ;almost; vegetarian doesn't help, almost meaning I eat chicken and dishes containing mince beef, also tinned tuna but not fresh!

I have distant relatives living in Harpenden.

@SwampHiker, we posted about the same time. I never thought of white vinegar but think the Witch Hazel smells better.

I am 'using; you as my benchmark for when I have my Revision. :fingersx: Like you, my Spacer only hurts when I move and I do so look forward to being able to just jump up and go ... :walking:

Take care and boa fim semana. xx

Glad I asked???? In that case, are you looking forward to your chicken, minced beef and tuna for Christmas? I think I once played football [soccer to US bonesmarties] near Harpenden and other than that don,t really know it, you probably know a lot more about it than I do. Have only lived in this area for about 8 years other than 30 something years ago when I was at Polytechnic in this area, and drink was so cheap don't remember much of that either. Feliz natal, Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel and Happy Hanukkah

I know I said Have a Nice Weekend above (well, Good End of Week) but the locals start to send wishes on a Thursday as they may not see/speak to one another again before the weekend.

@Izabel I have to agree the witch hazel smells better, I didn't know it works for bruising. I learn something new every day!

I really do hope your revision recovery goes swimmingly! Soon, you'll be able to jump up and go. I'm ashamed to admit that prior to my injury that is something I took for granted. Never again!

I hope you have a great weekend too. I'll dedicate my 1/2 mile walk to you this afternoon.

A little progress I have to tell you all about as I am chuffed! I 'walked' 10 steps this morning albeit cheating by using touch toe with my left foot. Also did my normal 25 minutes on the leg energiser and 20 full rotations on the peddler. The bruise is dissipating and still not swelling or painful so that seems positive. Sleeping comfortably on my left side keeping a small pillow between my knees. Finished with my Lovenox needle injections today ... hurray!

I am bored having finished my second afghan since the beginning of September, I started the last one the day after my last op in October. One of the Nurse Aides liked it so much I ordered her the same yarn and delivered it last week when I had my blood tests. My dear hubby has had to pop out so is going by the Chinese shop to get me some yarn (his choice) as I am waiting for some to come from the UK and am totally bored!

Two of my friends came by yesterday and one bought me a white mini rose bush and the other a soft stuffed beaver. Hubby served tea/wine/cake after cleaning the lounge, bless him.

It is sunny with blue skies but 17c/62F so I am keeping warm indoors.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their weekend.

@Izabel That is more than a "little progress"! You are doing amazing! I can't even begin to imagine just how bored you are getting.

No more blood thinner shots! Hooray!

Wow, you have been busy with those afghans. I do not have the knack for that, I'm much better with hammers and saws lol. How thoughtful of you to bring yarn to the nurse

Glad to hear you've had some visitors and the skys are clearing. Hope hubby brings back some fabulous yarn for your next project.

you are now a needle free zone, congrats and enjoy the sun and blue skies. Miserable weather in Hertfordshire. Maybe you could knit me a crutch which would be as good as the physio guy I saw.

Oh @SwampHiker, you are so sweet! We have to keep trying, don't we? The other bit of progress is that the day before surgery following my TKR I had managed to sit on the bed with my legs up and heels pressed against bum and leg straight which had been difficult for me. After this surgery I could not bend my leg lying down ... fine sitting up with +90. The past couple of days I can get leg halfway to bum lying down/propping up. O obviously continually do bum clenches and quad tightening.

I love all crafts and have done four afghans in the past year, plus a few scarves and shawls ... keeps my hands occupied. I give a lot away to charity. Hubby brought back light grey and black so have started ... guess what? ... an afghan, I love the things.

@Jamesdean ha, ha, I thought you were going to ask for a willy warmer ...far more useful than a cane, which would collapse, which we don't want, do we? My Infectious diseases doctor asked me if I was making him a shirt as he loves red ... the afghan was shades of red with a silver thread.

Tchau para agora ...

@Izabel Wow, that is a serious range of motion before surgery with a knee replacement and a slipped femur stem! I'm happy to hear that your getting closer to where you want to be again. Are you still on for blood work next week?

I have an afghan that my great grandmother made for me - she had a love for them as well. It has gotten so much use during this recovery period. It's blue, red, pink and white. I'm sure all who have received one of yours are most appreciative. I like hubby's choice of colors.

@SwampHiker I was in hospital for 4 days after my TKR. I achieved 80 on day one after day of surgery and 90 the second day to the delight of Physio and Surgeon but could not use walker due to LLD and did not attempt steps but I was allowed home on the 4th day.

Heirlooms are truly a treasure and a lovely memory.

About to have some chilli and hot rolls then watch some Netflix so I will be closing down for the night.

Boa noite e dorme bem. xx

Good morning / bom dia. I hope everyone had a good weekend. The sun is shining and the sky is blue and we are going to 20c today ... I love December.

I still have a bit of numbness in the back of my thigh and lower leg and a tightness in my knee ... is this normal at six weeks?

Have a nice day.

Good morning @Izabel I really hope that it is normal because I too have numbness. Left cheek, back of thigh, still some on thigh on non operated leg and as I am a gentleman will not mention the other numb bits.
