Hip Infection* Izabel, Walking on Sunshine

I'm so glad you're home and still are feeling determined!

Just documenting my progress lest my mind forget.

These past four days have been 'different' from my other surgeries. First I have had diarrhea (TMI I know) every morning but then it clears till next morning. Hopefully it is the antibiotics purging my system. Secondly my swollen thigh is diminishing, still only on the back side, but now the muscles are playing up something fierce. I did my exercises standing on one leg and I was shattered and hubby had to help me sit down! I do not have confidence walking on one foot putting all the pressure on my arms.

I am only 3 weeks out tomorrow, so tomorrow will be better and hopefully Friday will be positive.

I feel for you, as this has been a really trying process.
It HAS only been 3 weeks so don't be hard on yourself.
Hugs and healing thoughts for you @Izabel

@Izabel I'm so sorry that this experience has been so frustrating and slow. Hopefully your days will improve. Slow and steady....hugs

Saw Surgeon on Friday, staples removed and steri-strips/waterproof bandage applied. Blood tests done.

Received phone call from Surgeon this morning. He and Internist are pleased with my blood results, liver and kidney fine and infection under control. Due to me being 'small' (115lbs) they feel I should reduce to 2 Antibiotic tablets per day.

See Surgeon again on Friday, 23 November.

I am pleased with results but still suffering from numb calf and foot, but it is less than it was so guess it is improving. Also butt pain lessening. I can lie on my good side now. :) :-) (:

So glad to see your update dear Izabel .:)
I am glad all tests came back good and Yay for getting to sleep in a more comfortable position.
I had to sleep on my back way too long!
Pray all continues to get better so you can get your life back.
Hugs:friends:

Well this is good news indeed! Hopefully less antibiotics will help with those GI symptoms a bit. Nothing like trying to run to the loo when you can't bear weight on 1 leg :bolt:

I'm hoping that numbness continues to subside and finally that this pain in your butt will go away.

Hugs and healing wishes!

All good news @Izabel
Glad to read they're pleased with your bloodwork.
Great that your pain and numbness are easing also. Slowly but surely it's a step in the right direction.
I hope you have a wonderful week!

:bath: Perhaps a silly question, but ... how do others with 'no weight bearing' on one leg bathe comfortably? I don't dare attempt the tub (which is my preferred method of bathing ... one can luxuriantly relax in lotions and potions) and standing on one leg flailing around is unsafe and sitting on a stool is not to my liking at all! I have a separate wheelchair suitable for showers (also has a commode) but does not fit in our shower!

Even worse is washing my hair, which is of a medium/long length.

Any secrets gratefully received.
:praying:

There is the dry shampoos.
Do you have help I'm hoping Izabel?
I had a small chair for shower and a detachable shower head which made things somewhat easier, albeit awkward.
Just had to rinse as I could with DH help getting in and out.
Feel like I did have residual shampoo and soap on parts for first few as I was nervous and tried to get it done and get OUT!
Hopefully you will hear from others on this!

Aww, Izabel, my heart goes out to you.
Could you purchase a smaller bench to fit in your shower? Even an inexpensive one. Doesn't have to be Teakwood. There are cheap ones with plastic seats / metal legs. That way you'd be able to wash your hair. Dry shampoo is okay in a pinch, but I'm not a fan. Feels akin to putting deodorant on unwashed armpits :heehee:
I've used it, but it's not my fave. I agree with Mojo, first few showers were quickies. I felt like a little leftover soap residue on my body was worth feeling fresh as a daisy.

Best wishes for a nice weekend!
@Izabel

Thank you @Mojo333 and @Layla for your kind responses.

My husband of 50 years is a Godsend having to do everything after me doing shopping/cooking/cleaning/gardening plus working full time up until these issues. Not being mobile and unable to drive, I honestly don't know how I would manage having no family plus living in the country we are at least 30 minutes from friends.

I have a small stool in the shower which has an overhead head plus hand-held unit ... I just don#t feel safe in there even with hubby nearby to help. Guess I am just winging!

I have ordered this shampoo from Amazon ...

I did get two!

I get to take the steri-strips and waterproof bandage off today. The Surgeon is very conservative and likes to keep such sterile and clean for a month. My scar looks great, will have hubby take a photo.

Thanks for listening. xx

Saw Surgeon yesterday morning and he is pleased with my health progress and that I have put on a little weight, perhaps 5lbs and plan to gain more. Renewed all prescriptions and sent me off for blood/urine tests. Surgeon phoned me in the afternoon to say he was happy with blood tests. I have my last Lovenox stomach injection next Saturday ... hurray! Next bloods are set for 7 December, I don't need to see him then unless I want to, no appointment necessary, just tell them to tell him I am there! He is so 'hands on' and personable, couldn't ask for better.

Actually got full rotation on my peddler with relative ease ... guess it is okay with just a spacer in but it and the energiser machine are my only exercise since I find NWB with the walker unbearable.

Hope all those who celebrate had a good Thanksgiving. Our friends came over and brought a roast chicken and apple pie which was lovely.

Boa fim semana (have a good weekend). xx

Glad you had a good Thanksgiving and that you are staying positive.

I'm so glad to hear that things are continuing to head in the right direction, I know it must feel like a snail's pace though. You're doing great, hopefully you'll be cleared to get that new hip soon.

@Izabel Wonderful, you sound to bedoing so well and great to put on a few pounds, hopefully Christmas will help
to put on a few more!! I am wondering how you got on with the hair shampoo i have seen them but never tried!! Hopefully your discomfort is lessening and time will pass quickly. I go and see my surgeon on Tuesday so we will see. Hugs and lovexxx
