How exciting :dancy: I did volunteer work once at a hospital (in the ER) it was great - I'm so excited for you :yay: I think this is a great idea for you - you seem like a very compassionate person so I'm sure this will b a great fit for you and the patients :cat-kittyandsmiley:

Let me know how it goes...

xoxo,
Linda

Hi Natalie, thought I'd share a similar tale with you. As you can see from my sig line I've had a few issues too. When they told me one year after my PKR that I needed a TKR I took it pretty hard. I wasn't comfortable being dependent on my family again & I sure as heck didn't trust my OS at that point. My husband didn't take the news well at all which was shocking to me as he wasn't going to be disabled for another few months so I could not relate to his reaction & was actually rather miffed.

To make a long story short I'm six months out, the world is a better place but I had to stick to my guns with the doc's. The first knee was put it crookedly or so they say. I don't really know for sure if that was the issue but I can tell you that my knee is a joint that I'm not always aware of & that is rather amazing for me. I did have a rod placed below my knee due to being very bow legged.

Guess what 'mI trying to convey is don't give up. Express yourself, write down & record your daily knee issues, present them factually with a med list, icing & inability to be painfree. Eventually they listen.

I wish you a healthy knee!

Natalie that's such good news about your volunteer work! Good luck at the interview.

I am sure you will be a perfect addition to hospital staff - you have been there and understand! Let us know how it goes!

Natalie....what a perfect job for you. I know you will impress the heck outta the staff in your interview.

Woooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo I got the position I start in September so pleased ::)

It is working on a ward with elderly patients who have all sorts of problems from dementia to stomach complaints to those who have had falls.
It's sitting and chatting with them, playing board games or reading a paper as well as helping at mealtimes and popping to the shops for them anything.
Also helping staff with other duties around the ward, the hours or up to me I can do as little or much as I want :)

I am so happy :)

I have also been to pain MGT today and we have decided to try pain patches so I have to go and get them written up by a GP and see how I go.

Natalie.....I'm beyond thrilled for you!!! Nothing like a job where you can give help to people who really need it. Congratulations!!!

I had no doubt about you getting the job Natalie. Well done!

Let us know how it goes with the pain patches.

Natalie,

Congratulations! This is such great news. I know you will provide so much compassion and comfort to the patients. I think you will find that this will help distract you from your pain. You should feel so good about this. You are providing a wonderful example to your children about perseverance.

Ooh yes! One of my cats was a PAT cat. It was a really great thing to do. Sadly my knees got in the way and by the time I could do it again, he was too old.

Natalie, I think those patients are going to be so lucky to have you looking after them! Which hospital will you be working at?

Yes I love animals Tykey we have a cocker spaniel who is a bit too much for me to take out anymore as he pulls me over!

I am just going to look at the link now.

Thank you so much for all your kind words I really can't wait now just got all the paperwork and checks to get through.

Congrats Nat!!
Having been through your own personal war, you will have more than enough empathy to go around!!!

Hi everyone how are you all :)

So we had a fab time in Dublin but as usual I did too much so spent 3 days in bed when I got home!!!

My appointment to get the pain patches is 27th August I really hope they work as my pain is getting worse :(

I am noticing a lot more pain in the other knee too typical eh????!!!

Welcome back Natalie. So glad you had a good trip! 10 days - hope they fly by. Take care!

So happy to hear you had a good time. You know, I think we ALL overdo things on a holiday. It's so easy to do when you're out there having fun and seeing new things. You'll bounce back with some rest. The bonus is you have those wonderful memories forever!!
