TKR Indieknee trying to recover

Having said all that, if I think back a few weeks or even months, there’s really no comparison, it was much worse then in every respect. But, it’s still not comfortable or painless, which it needs to be to make me think it was worthwhile.
I agree.
You should read @Marguette ’s thread. She had a recovery that was slower than some others, and she is doing well now.

At the very least, go to the last page and read some of latest posts. I think you’ll be encouraged.

@indieknee i know the sense of trust lost from an aggressive PT session. I was going for almost a month when they bent my knee back twice too far. It was enough to cause nausea and severe pain. I’ve never hobbled out of a session but I did that day. It set me back almost 2 weeks! Until that visit I enjoyed my therapy. I struggled with going back but after a discussion with them via phone, they threw out the MUA and scar tissue threat. I did not go back! Hope things continue to improve with your new knee.

It’s my knee’s 5 month anniversary this week and it is swollen and a real pain in the ar knee BUT I will not let it rule my life. Well there are things I can’t do because of The Knee, but I will doubly enjoy the things I can do. I’m not going out for a walk today but that’s to do with the wind and rain, not The Knee. So, today, I will listen to the rain, read my book, remember birthdays, phone relatives and do a spot of cooking later.:)

I love your attitude! You are doing well for being less than halfway through a year+ long recovery!

:yes!:I did lots of work this morning and it paid off. My retired OS client and his wife loved my preliminary website design for his nautical website. That has certainly put me in a good mood but it does mean lots more work and a lot of sitting which stiffens my knee. I have to remember to scramble my way out of my recliner computer setup and walk around now and again.

@Jockette - just reading your thread - what a lovely family you have, and even your knee behaved itself at your family gathering. Hope things work out for you regarding your 2nd opinions etc.
Take care.

How can I describe my 5 month knee pain? It’s not like the earlier pain I used to have. I feel like trying to put it into words, all the better to discuss it with my surgeon, who I’m seeing on Thursday.

One of the main ones is as if the top of my knee was stuck down with strong glue and someone or something was trying to pull It off. Then there’s the ‘skin’ pains, burning and prickling and the deeper ‘lump’ pain - there are 2 or three hard lumps in my knee. There’s a sharper pain on the inner side at the back that flares up and strangely can make me feel quite nauseous. Its not quite right but it’s the best I can do.

Trying to look at and describe things objectively helps me cope.

It is so hard to put the way we feel into words. And we have to, so we can give our surgeons the best information so they can help us.

I hope yours listens and responds well.

In response to me moaning about my continued pain, my OS said; " it can take a full year to recover". That is the first time he has admitted that!
He didn't really give me much pain advice except that Codeine might be a good idea instead of Gabapentin which tends to make me nauseous. He hasn't signed me off which he said he was going to do. I have to see him again in 4 months. He never mentioned CRPS and i forgot to ask!

Gabapentin isn't actually a pain reliever as such. It's a medication that is used primarily against epilepsy, but it is also used to dampen down nerve pain, because it acts on the nerves.

Have you tried taking Paracetamol 1,000 mg 6-hourly, on a regular schedule?
Be careful not to exceed the safe daily dosage of 4,000 mg - check for any Paracetamol/Acetaminophen/Tylenol in medications such as cold cures, if you are taking any of those.

Thanks @Celle I am taking paracetamol regularly and it does seem to help.
My OS agreed with dropping the Gabapentin so perhaps he has dropped the idea of CRPS - I hope so.
I’m seeing my GP next week to update her and discuss pain meds and arthritis in my other knee and hands.

I will miss this forum so much but unfortunately I can’t stay anymore.:what:

 Probably overreacting because of disappointment and feeling somewhat hurt (also oversensitive).

This message has been edited - I can’t believe anybody would do that and for what reason - more upset.
