TKR Indieknee trying to recover

It’s thundering, lightening and chucking it down with rain, excuse my slang. I’m nice and cosy in bed listening to the storm. My knee has been overly painful today, I wonder if it’s affected by the weather.

It probably is. Mine does that, too. It did not before I had the replacement.

Just out of interest - what does the green triangle mean on the top left of my avatar?

It means you’re on Bonesmart.

When you go offline from here, the green light goes out.

Lots of work today for my retired OS.
Tomorrow I have to go to pt after a gap of about 3 weeks - she’s been on a break. I have done a little home pt but I’m afraid not as much as she’d like. So any lack of progress will be blamed on that, no doubt.
I’m actually looking forward to designing a nautical website but it will mean sitting for long periods. I have found that I can only do this by sitting in my recliner. My Mac has to come down stairs - it’s a bit of a palaver.
See you later.

Well I did half a days work then promptly fell asleep.
When I woke up it was dark and silent, very Halloween.:scaredycat:
I didn’t know where I was for a good half minute, then my husband bustled in the room saying ‘why are you sitting in the dark?’ Phew!

I was woken up at around 5 am with a shooting pain in my knee. It’s gone now, fortunately so I’m lying here listening to heavy rain, which I find strangely comforting. I might even get some more sleep

Saw the pt and she is pleased with my progress. I haven’t seen her for 3 weeks and couldn’t see much difference, but she said the hard bits are softening and she could touch my kneecap area without me ow-ouching. She gave me a nice massage and some acupuncture. I see her in 2 weeks and up to that time I should do some heel slides and pressing the back of my my knee on a ball into the bed. I asked about my little peddle machine - she said 1 minute every other day.

So I felt encouraged and a lot happier about my knee for a while. It’s amazing what a bit of positive encouragement will do.

My OS has moved my appointment to the end of November. I think he hopes that all my pain with have miraculously disappeared by then and I will stride confidently into his room all cured.:)

Very fed up day.
My GP has called me in Tues next week, to discuss my pain meds.
I’m still on longtec oxy morning and night. I’ve tried to cut down the dose to 10mg instead of 20mg but lt leaves me in a lot of pain. I’m on 2 Gabapentin 3 times a day and I’m gradually upping that dose to 3 three times a day although it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.
I’ve gone back to taking 20mg oxy and my knee is a little better but I do so wish I could function without the pain and the pain meds, I don’t know what to do.

I am going to tag @Josephine, our forum director and nurse, to address your concerns.

Please don’t worry Josephine - she has helped me before suggesting I change oxy to tramadol with a table of how to take it and paracetamol. But I have to get my GP to follow her advice. I will have a go at trying to get her to change the oxy to tramadol.

Too late! I'm already here!
I’m on 2 Gabapentin 3 times a day and I’m gradually upping that dose to 3 three times a day although it doesn’t seem to be doing anything.
That sentence doesn't make sense - you're going to up the gabapentin from 3 times a day to 3 times a day?

Hello Josephine - thanks for popping in.
Yes that sentence does look a bit funny - I meant 3 pills three times a day. At the mo I’m taking 2 pills 3 times a day. But they don’t seem to help. Sorry I’m a bit down today, we went out but had to come home early because my knee was so grumpy.

We went to queue up for our flu jab this morning - the nurse asked if id ever had one before, I think 65 is the qualifying age, so I was quite cheered up.

My stupid knee is still being a pain and with the colder weather my hands and left knee have been encouraged to join in the pain. But the nurse thought I was younger than I am so I remain a happy bunny today.

Well saw my GP today to discuss pain meds.
She wants to keep me on the oxy and has upped the dose of Gabapentin. Trying it for a week. Also having a blood test tomorrow.

Today is the first time my knee and my state of mind has allowed me to sit in a hairdressers chair since well before my op. My hair has been streaky with highlights and lowlights for some time but most of the colour is growing out. I decided to just have it cut and blow dried, because I didn’t think my knee would tolerate sitting in that particular chair for too long.

Later on that evening my husband suddenly said, “did your hair dresser lighten your hair, it looks much better?” To which I replied, “thanks, darling - it’s mainly white - nothing to do with the hairdresser”. :heehee: (Perhaps he was just being kind!)

Anyway, to start fixing my hair or even thinking about it may sound trivial, but its definitely a huge improvement in my mood. My knee was stiff and painful afterwards but at the time I did not care a hoot!

Now I’m in bed listening to the wind and rain and about to do a spot of web window shopping. I might come back to play a few games.

I remember the first time I realized I was sitting comfortably in the hairdresser’s chair with my feet up on the foot thing! It is exciting when we can do something again!:happydance:

It's getting back to the little things that make so much difference in this recovery. Getting hair done to me is a big thing! Good for you!
