TKR Indieknee trying to recover

This was my home during my recovery and the posters were my family! Someone was here to listen to me no matter what time it was!

We had a good walk in the pouring rain with only the tiniest of knee grumbling.

Went down to the quay and along by the river for quite some way without having to sit on a wet seat. Then, instead of going home, we went into town and had coffee. I actually sat for some time without many knee grumblings. My husband had to stop me from doing more walking.

I am in some pain tonight but not too bad.

Awesome!! :loveshwr:

And in the rain!!!:happydance:

@Jockette i still can’t get rid of the feeling that I should be doing much more. I know I shouldn’t compare but I don’t see many early July op people on the forum that are as slow in recovery as me.

You do not need to do “much more”.

Many members only stick around for the first couple of months and then get busy with their non Bonesmart life.

Some of us, like me, and like you, and others, stick around to support the new ones who will only be here for a while.

I found Bonesmart about 4 weeks post op. I didn’t have the nerve to join until almost 6 months post op! In the mean time, each week or so I would google:
“X week post op TKR Bonesmart” and google would find the posts here. They might have been old ones, from other years, but still offered me hope for others in my time frame. You could try doing that.

By the time I finally joined, I felt like I knew all the advisors and that they were like family!!

Just been to my penultimate pt session. Ouch! I think I should have given it a miss.

If that's what you're thinking about PT... consider stopping it for now. You can always go back later. You can decide not to go back ever. You can join a gym or health club or just do fun exercises of your liking, like biking or swimming or walks around town. I wish I had a quay to walk to! Your town sounds wonderfully good for walking.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for both your knee and your spirit is to just let life be your therapist. Enjoy walks. Enjoy moving. Enjoy the things you love and discover new things to love. Your knee might appreciate having some of the pressure taken off: less being expected to "measure up," less being the center of your universe.

It's easy to find fault with ourselves -- or our knee, as in the case of TKR recovery -- and overlook the advances we've made with our small victories. In the long run it won't matter if the knee takes a month or two, or even several, longer. Ugly ducklings that turn into swans are just as beautiful as any other swans!

Hello @SusieShoes lovely to hear from you. Can’t wait for my knee to turn into a swan :) :-) (:.

My current pt has always been very kind and gentle and full of useful information, but today was rather different. I was expecting the usual massages and acupuncture but she pushed and squashed me and prodded and poked, I suppose I was a bit stunned because I let her do it. I only have one more session at the end of the month. I don’t think she believes she can do any more for me, she agrees with my surgeon that I have CRPS. I probably won’t go again.

I’ve never been one for exercising, I think the last thing I would like is to join a gym, I’ve never really enjoyed anything sporty, walking will do just fine. Yes, I agree, I am very lucky to live where I do, with the river and seaside towns nearby. Sometimes these things can get taken for granted.

Again, nice to hear from you SusieShoes and thank you for the wise words.

:tiredwheel: Had lots of work to do today, so much sitting, I tried to get up now and again to have a walk around. That combined with the after effects of pt, plus I’m reducing my pain meds means my knee is not a happy duckling. But these things have to be done.

If you want to, you could stop PT. You're getting lots of it just working. The preparation and getting to work is just part of the work day. Getting back home and settling down is another part of it!

Hello @sistersinhim - fortunately these days I work from home, I get lots of mental exercise but not much physical, I’m tied to my makeshift recliner desk
I only have one pt session left after I see my OS at the end of the month. My pt is a very nice person so I will probably go just update her and say goodbye. I’m sure she didn’t mean to hurt me. I am rather upset though because I could actually see a light at the end of the tunnel and now I’m back to icing and elevating.

You should tell her this.

It just amazes me how you just never know when they are going to do something like that. I will not be putting myself in that situation next time.

@indieknee , it’s not silly at all, your trust was absolutely betrayed. At the very least, she should’ve discussed with you at the beginning of your session what she felt she needed to. And then you’d have been able to control that session . If you do go to the last appt, I agree with Jockette that you should tell her how you feel. It gives you closure, plus maybe that PT will be more mindful with her nexts clients.
:console2:

My knee has calmed down a little. It’s odd, the left side of my scar is fine, no pain, no swelling. On the right side there are 2 large hard lumps which are numb but painful, if that makes any sense. This sensation is going down my shin slightly. The swelling definitely impedes my range of movement.

Having said all that, if I think back a few weeks or even months, there’s really no comparison, it was much worse then in every respect. But, it’s still not comfortable or painless, which it needs to be to make me think it was worthwhile.
