TKR Indieknee trying to recover

Mine always hurt more when I was under stress.

Mind and body are so intertwined. Mental pain may cause or increase physical pain and physical pain may cause or increase mental pain. It’s a catch 22 - no wonder we need pain meds and ‘mindfulness’.
It’s rather late here in the UK, I’m growing philosophical :chinstroke:

I wonder if my knee hurts more when I’m under stress
Oh yeah! I would catch myself getting upset about something, then realize my body's muscles were tightening up, my knee included! Once I talked myself out of the stress, my knee would settle down. Our bodies are amazing creations!

I think you're probably right. When we are under stress, our resistance is lower to everything, including pain.

I now have my new drug to replace gabapentin. It’s supposed to work in a similar way - it blocks pain by interfering with pain messages travelling through the brain and down the spine. (I read rhat on the NHS website.) it’s called Pregabalin or the much more preferable name - Lyrica.

I had another quick word with my GP about it. She thinks it may suit me better and also said that i should not stop using this type of pain med - for the time being anyway. She did say that hopefully the CRPS was stopped in it’s tracks by using the ‘pain blockers’ early.

But The Knee is still playing up even though I didn’t do much today physically. My sleep has become very poor again so I think a large dose of Kindle book is required.

Hey @indieknee

I took Lyrica for a few months when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia. It did work wonders for my pain but sadly I couldn’t take it for long.
So sorry to hear The Knee is acting up so much but I can relate today.
Take some time to be kind and let time do it’s work.

Well I do feel more clear headed today but TK is painful. We’re off for a walk by the river today even though its raining - ooh the sun is trying to come out, we better take advantage. See you later.

Hope you enjoyed your river walk! Some people have poor sleep for several months. I was one of them. It was good five or six months before I could count on sleeping through the night again. Miserable!

I find that the best thing for me when I can’t sleep, is to not fight it. I read a book, read bonesmart, browse the web and so on, although I know it can be very difficult to concentrate. My ipad and kindle have become my best friends over the past months.

In the early days / months I fell asleep ok but then kept waking up. Now I do have a good nights sleep sometimes but I often find it difficult to fall asleep. Then I’ll fall asleep during the day, which is inconvenient if I’m working at the computer.

I had a really nice walk by the river in the cold and wet, when we arrived home, after saying, “I’ll cook tonight”, I promptly fell asleep.

@indieknee
Sadly I suffered from the side effects pretty bad. Vision went super blurry and my hands and feet ballooned up. The pain level dropped substantially but the side effects weren’t worth that tbh

I hope you found somrthing that helped. I’ll keep an eye on my hands and feet.

Take care

Is it the Lyrica you're talking about?

If you're able, have a Happy Christmas and any other Festivals at this time of year. If you are sad, think of the good times. Help someone who will find it difficult at this time of year.
Also look after yourselves.
