Maybe you just did too much Jim.....So don't go back to that dark place just yet!!!:nah:
Hey I found a huge heating pad..well it's isn't huge but the largest one I have seen so far. It is like double the length of a regular one.If I get two I can lay on one and put the other on top of me and then cook myself!:rotfl:
Feel better hope you got to see your pt!!!
Sandy

Jim,

I'm so sorry you've had a setback. It seems there is a lot of "two steps forward, one step back" with this process, but you've had more than your fair share of steps back. I find I have to balance an active day with a day of rest, but, of course, that's not always possible. Do keep us posted on things.

wipurplechick,
I read your post just before I went to the P.T. this morning. It helped me to get there (I was thinking of canceling with all my discomfort). The P.T. put heat on me and manipulated me some. Then he put ice on me and manipulated me some more. Then he said that all he was doing was aggrevating the condition and indicated that he would call my doctor (surgeon) and consult with him. He had a look on his face that said he had run out of rope with me. I don't know that for sure, and I am to go back and see him on Thursday, and maybe he'll send me in a different direction.

In the meantime a collegue and friend of mine called her son, at P.T. in San Antionio, TX who said that, out as far as I am from the surgery, with or without scare tissue and such, I likely have a "mechanical problem" (in the joint). He gave me the name of another superstar, revision surgeon in San Antonio. So I have two names now (the other in Houston) in the event I have reached another impasse here locally.

So I'll try to keep following the proactive thread where ever it goes. Thanks for your input and encouragement. Jim

Sunshine,
We need a CNN for recovery. I can see you on there beaming and demonstrating your heating pad. You'd show them that even with immobility and good distance from the stove you can keep a couple of tacos tucked away in it in addition to heating your self. Then you would wrap around your mid section and show folks how we recovering people attempt to lose weight.
The recovered world has nothing on us.
Jim

Jim, do you think maybe it's time that you make that long trip to see the revision surgeons??? I hate to see you continuing to go through all of this pain when it's possible that a revision by a really good surgeon could be the solution.

Jimbo-I am so, so sorry to hear that the PT merely aggravated your condition without offering any suggestions or solutions for improvement. You deserve a better quality of life!

Whatever you decide later this week, please know we're here with and for you. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Jamie,
Things certainly seem to be moving in that direction. My own untrained thinking says "It's got to be in the joint, that pain occurs through the range of motion specifically in the joint itself". I've been looking for someone here to confirm that, but it may not happen. I'll see the P.T. tomorrow, and since I'm not doing any better, he may confirm that, and as he said that he was going to consult with the operating surgeon, the surgeon may confirm that at this point. Maybe not.

But you are right. I already have enough to go on to consult with a revision surgeon. I dread the thought of going 600 miles to do it, but so far, as you can see, I am not getting the clarity/answers I need here.

I have always made do on the frontier here, but I've always known that services were limited here (though Amarillo is a medical hub for the Panhandle population). Now I'm living and feeling the limitations.

Thanks for your gentle, concerned proding, Jamie. It beats the current proding in my hip.
Jim

Jacey,
We generally do "damp" out here for about 30 seconds, but the berometric pressure does change, and I do wonder if it is effecting me. Of course with my untrained mind and without answers I wonder about a lot of things. Sometimes I think it's the jalopena peppers. Sometimes I think it's Mariah (the constant wind here) or the gnats from the cattle yard. Then there is the curse on those going near a lost mine...
At least here, we can wonder in the open and get experienced feed back.
Thanks for your attention and input.
Jim

Jimbo - I know it's going to be lots of effort but maybe Jamie is right. If you investigate your pain from another angle you really have nothing to loose. At least you can confirm if you are heading the right direction. If not - revision will address the pain.

Hang in there Jimbo. Let us know how it goes will you?

Sadly, I think you are right, Jim. You may not get someone where you are to say that you definitely NEED to get to that revision surgeon. It's why we always stress that everyone must be their own advocate and actively seek resolutions to problems when they arise.

You have done such a great job of trying everything possible in your location. But I sure would love to see you get this taken care of once and for all. If I lived close to you, I'd take you those 600 miles myself!!

Jim, even with all the pain and frustration you are going through, your sense of humour made me laugh out loud when I read your response to Sunshine Sandy..:rotfl:

Humour and laughter are so good for the soul.. Thankyou..:thmb:

I do hope you can find some answers...

I started PT yesterday and even thought the exercises were really simple, my body was quite stiff and sore today.. add to that, my Doctor has cut back my pain meds and when they are gone.. that's it.. I have about 25 left.. so I can empathize with your PT session!!

Jamie - let's hire a BoneSmart limo to take Jimbo to a specialist. Look out - BoneSmart on the move! :rotfl:

Take care Jimbo! We are with you in spirit!

Jimbo-Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you...I know you head back to PT today; I also realize you're seriously considering a revision surgeon.

Sending smiles and good thoughts to you...

I still keep hearing those surgeons at the conference in Edinburgh last September saying "Idiopathic hip pain often gets resolved with a revision - no idea why. It just does."

Josephine, Yes I remember, and have been thinking of your reporting that too. I'm sure intuiting in that direction. Another posibility is that it is "Idiotpathic pain" which would likely result in my being put down.
My crazed uncertainty continues,
Jim

Jamie,
I went to P.T. Thursaday and had a very light session. So I have managed to get to the weekend without unbearable pain. Last weekend and through to Thursday I was pretty miserable.

The P.T. advised me , in as much as I am "going to live in this town" to see surgeon #1 here in town "out of respect" (I did schedule with him to get some year point x-rays), and ask him if he sees it feasable to refer me to a revision specialist. Now I can get into see the surgeon in Houston (through surgeion #2 in Lubbock) and I also have a name in San Antonio. So I'll do that (10/19) if only to get the x-rays and move on.

But I do think it's time to focus on revision. I'm pretty far out from the surgery, and P.T. just seems to aggravate the joint. And if I could cycle 400 miles, I can certainly drive or fly the 600 to Houston.

Thanks for your very much continued support, Jim

Oh Jim! You still have that neat sense of humour! I'm still praying you find an answer soon.

:pray::pray: Me too Jim...:sigh: :cnsl:. I don't have anything to say except that I'm right with you in the frustration department :pnc:...

Sylvia, I have been wanting to respond to you and ask you if you have control of the pups in your picture, or have they ganged up to protect you against the wall?
This is coming from my need for protection. One of the grandkids tried to ride my big black lab yesterday and both fell on me. My leg/hip got a jolt, and I'm feeling it this morning.

I do hope you get some progress in P.T. I understand it's rarely "easy". I haven't seen much progress in two attempts. I hope your stiffeness and soreness is just the pain of progress.

Thanks for your well wishes, Jim

Janet, I do appreciate your empathy. Have you noticed that when you go to the frustration "department" it does no good to complain. They have a deaf ear, they don't take returns and they wont admit their product is faulty.

Proactiveness, darn it, requires a smile:D, a step forward and faith that the universe will provide answers and support.

Somtimes I have to stand outside the store and fume :hissy:before I can go in and trust my purchasing power.

Take care, Jim
