THR I'm on the other side!!

Good morning everyone. 8 months right now!! Just got chased inside after 5.5 miles which 2.5 were jogged by thunder and lightning. Leg gets stronger by the week . I can still tell that there is more healing to happen . After years of running one knows one’s strengths and weaknesses. The surgery itself is one that compromises a whole lot in there . It takes time to heal and strengthen. It makes me wonder why so many on other social media sites are doing in my eyes way too much too soon . Slow and steady.

@newguy thanks for keeping us updated. Although your recovery is an exception (running at 8 months out is fantastic) your approach is definitely working for you. Yes, slow and steady is the way to go. The body has been through major trauma and maybe some pre-op atrophy due to not being able to move freely. Trying to rush this recovery will only set you back and may indeed cause other damage.

Well done you - I'm sure our more active members will be encouraged by your success!

Jaycey, I am not sure why anyone try’s to rush this . I have a picture my wife took of me at day 3 sitting on my chair with ice pillows Walker blanket etc. it was pitiful. BUT it was needed to get fixed . The odd in my eyes of wanting to run races again makes little sense . I am jogging slowly. Not pounding the ground . Walking faster weekly . Remember all surgeons will tell you 1 year minimum for full recovery. They are correct.

Lol. I can kind of relate, Yesterday I was on the beach and the sand was so hit, I started moving way faster than I have since June 24 2022. It hit me, omg, I can do this, and all of a sudden I felt my confidence come back. I know others are not at your level, or my level. It’s a personal journey. I love reading your posts. They really have taken me out of my funk.

So almost 9 months. I am still seeing improvement in range of motion.I have walked 1220 miles and jogged at 11 min a mile 126 miles since early January. This mix seems to be a good one. No real stress on the implant. My jogging is 1 to 3 miles a day during my walks. I might walk 2 miles then jog a mile then walk 3 more then finish with 1 mile jog. Next day maybe 1 mile jog and 7 miles walked.... All good . I added slow jogging at 6+ months Post Op. I am at about 14 miles a week jogging now and plan to keep it that way. Walking about 40 a week.

GOALS!
Only kidding. I am not quite that ambitious. Whatever is working for you.
Have a wonderful week, newguy :walking:

Well now. 9 months ago right now we rolled up the driveway home from a 7:30 am surgery. UH Wow, Its so great. Range of motion is getting so darn good. I said I was not going to run much and I have kept that promise. I walk 35 to 40 miles a week and JOG slowly with good form about 14 miles a week now.
Some days 1 mile jog during the walks up to a 5K other days. Biking about 30 mins a day on the trainer. The science is just amazing. Co worker said to me yesterday hey its so fun to watch you walk perfectly again!! We good, and will continue to get stronger as the healing continues. I can do just about anything again from splitting wood to running around playing with the grandkids. Coaching the HS Cross Country Team here in NC and being able to walk comfortably at practice and meets.

Good news! Glad you're doing so well at nine months post op. You're loving life! :egypdance:

This is brilliant to read (currently 6 days from my operation). You have inspired at least one hippie today. Now, back to my leg slides…..

Set back ….oh yea, Afib. Had this arrhythmia in 2010. Got cardioverted and all good until last week . Spent 3 days in the hospital. Now it seems I am going in and out of it . On blood thinners, a rate control drug . Beta blocker. Lovely. I see the intervention cardiologist in 2 weeks . A discussion of how to deal with this going forward . Probably an ablation. So only walking a short time . When in Afib 150 beats per min and half are doing nothing!! Feels like you are running a race 24/7!! Woof !

@newguy oh my that's definitely a setback. Hopefully its only temporary and the interventional cardiologist can come up with a good fix to get you back up and moving. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that this is corrected and quickly. :praying: Please keep us posted with your findings.

Oh dear, sorry you are facing another challenge.
There seems to be several good options for AFib, I hope you can get settled easily and quickly.

I am sorry to read this news. Please keep us posted. I'll remember you in prayer for peace and speedy resolution.
@newguy

That's a real bummer for sure, sorry to hear that, let us know how you make out.
Will keep checking here for any updates.

Right there with you. The second day after the surgery, I had AFib as well. It didn’t last for a long time (140 beats/minute) and converted on its own but scary! I’m already on a calcium channel blocker and 2 baby aspirins a day plus all the other stuff they make you take. I did get cardiac clearance before the surgery so I don’t know what’s up. I don’t know if there’s a correlation, but the last time I had AFib was a couple of days after a steroid shot in my hip. During my surgery, I was given IV steroids and two days later, boom. I hope you can get to the bottom of your AFib soon.

Just saw the EP Cardiologist today . I have not been in Afib now 2 weeks . Had a nasty non Covid thing . Cough made my new hip thigh hurt!! But that has resolved. Going to have an ablation ASAP. By mid December. Best to do this as a first line treatment. Been walking 6 to 8 miles a day again and easy 1 mile jog during the walk . Crazy stuff but I feel good and have confidence in the treatment plan . Great cardiac hospital and doctors.

Sounds like you're in good hands. Glad to hear you have confidence in the cardiologists treatment plan. Wishing you the best. Stay in touch and let us know how you're doing. I hope you have a nice weekend!

Hey now!!. Will have my cardiac ablation on Dec, 19. 2 days before my 1 year getting my new hip. Go figure. Still not been in Afib now almost 3 weeks and in 2 days 10 months since new hip. Back to walking 5 to 6 miles a day and easy jogging 1 to 2 miles during that walk. 25 min bike on trainer daily. Today I actually bounded up stairs!! That was the first time in FOREVER!!. Yes closing in on 10 months PO and yes still getting stronger. All good gang!!
