bonzie Did you have both hops replaced at the same time? I had one replaced with the same precautions you have. I was able to sleep on my good side with the pillow between my knees.

Hi, Mbone - No, I just had a total right hip replacement - hopefully, my left hip will never need to be replaced! I am looking at 2 knee replacement surgeries in the near future. I guess I should start reading those threads.

I know what you mean I will also need both knees replaced as well as my right hip!

Really!!! How much time are you taking between these 3 upcoming surgeries and what will you have done first - knees or hip? I am taking all the supplements I can to keep my knees as healthy as I can - don't think they are working, though. Still real stiff and sore.

I was hoping o hold off year or I, but now I'm thinking of doing something in the summer. I'm going to ask my OS what he suggests. I've taken supplements or years and I'm still bone on bone on both knees and hip is very close! I'm afraid I'm oing to wake up one day soon with that excruciating hip pain and I don't want that!! My daughter is getting married a year from June and I not want to be in pain!

No, I did not have as many restrictions as you. I had some of them. I can't imagine sleeping with that wedge for so long. I was allowed to sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs, but it was not comfortable. Matter of fact, I am just now starting to lay on my side but it hurts before too long. Sleeping on my back has been hard. I am doing PT in the pool. I did it on the machines until my incision was closed, and then switched to the pool. I love it! No pain while you are doing it ,so I think you can do more. I am going to try go back to adding some of the stationary machines before I go to the pool. I am working about 25 hours a week right now, but I am not on my feet the whole time. I was glad to go back to work. Just be careful not to overdo it. I think I have been doing a little too much, I have been hurting at night, but probably cause I am just tired. Got to get some energy back! Good luck at work. Let me know how it goes!!

I will not know till March 12 when I can o back to work! I'm on my feet a lot and up and down stairs! I'm not in a hurry but I do miss everyone. I'm thinking of taking a ride there tomorrow to visit. I bet the pool is nice, it just do cold here that the thought if going to a pool and then out into the cold is not appealing. I keep on trying different pillow. I have 8 pillows nearby that I switch between.., really 8!!! I have not tried to sleep on my surgical side yet although they said at PT that I could. In fact, they want me to for an exercise, but that table is too hard so it hurts! When I go back to work it will be full time... About 8 hours a day!!! Don't know if I can handle it,

The pool at PT is heated so it is like a warm bath. The water is 90 degrees. I just cahnge back into clothes on cold days. I really missed taking a hot bath because I would soak daily for the pain. I finally got back in the bathtub a few weeks ago. I was afraid to before that, because I was afraid of trying to get up and out without twisting my leg. I went to work for a visit before I went back. You should go, Mbone. It is good to see everyone. Don't rush back though. You would be surprised how little energy you have at first. Maybe you can ease into it?? Have fun tomorrow if you go!

Mbone & Texas Girl - Good to hear from you both! I am about 10 weeks out now having had my surgery Dec.20, 2012. I am almost "back to normal". My 2 PT sessions were great - especially having my right buttocks massaged to get rid of that feeling of sitting on an orange. The muscles are very tight there and I have noticed a difference
when I sit down. I decided to take my nice, warm night-time bath inspite of not being released for that yet and everything went great. I roll over on my good leg and carefully, VERY CAREFULLY stand myself up. I do not feel confident yet to bring my operated leg up as far as needed to get out the normal way. How are you doing in the bathtub, Texas Girl? Starting back to work Monday, March 4 - hope all goes well. Really feel like I am ready but waitressing can be tiring. We'll see!!!!

I certainly know that "orange" feeling. I still have a small lump or two that I gently massage! I am a shower person! I love to sit in the shower with the hot water running on me!!!
bonzie do you still need a cane?

Bonzie,
I love my hot baths but I am very, very careful getting up and out of it. I am still very mindful of my hip and falling or twisting my leg. I was leaving the therapist's pool today and they said I was really walking good. I was glad to hear that. I am going to get on the balance machine on Wed. I love that thing! It is like playing a video machine but your legs are the controllers. I wish they gave me massages. I still have a soreness in my thigh and hip , but mostly at the end of the day. How was work today?

I had a wonderful first day back @work. Everyone was so happy to see me and had flowers and a card for me. However, I was very tired and stiff after working from just 12:00 to 3:00pm on my feet the entire time! I am glad I am only waitressing 2 days a week and for just a few hours in the afternoon. My hip is not a problem at all - I am completely back to normal - no cane and can go up and down the stairs normally now. What is my main problem now is the osteoarthritis in both my knees. I am so stiff at the end of the day and my back has now begun to hurt. None of my supplements are doing a thing for the inflammation. I am beginning to have side effects from the NSAIDS I take so the joy of having no more hip pain is taken away by this knee problem. Guess I had better switch over to the Knee Replacement Pre-Surgery Forum!

I everyone, I just read your post on the "orange" and that must be what I am feeling now. I am finding it hard to sit without feeling some pain like I am sitting on something. So it must be the "orange". I have had some problems with muscle spasms which are a bit better but now I have this. I have found that I can now put my feet up in the reclinder which takes away the hurt when sitting. I have a big pillow that I sit on to bring my hip in line.

Hi everyone. I just read these posts. My PT found that my priformis muscle and SI joint are both very tight from all the adapting I did when I had arthritis in the hip. She massaged those areas today and--ouch!-- but it was a little more comfortable to drive after. (Today was my first day driving.) hope you all continue to recover nicely.

Mbone, I changed my picture? What do you think? This is a half ragdoll cat named Oscar.

Hi BarbaraR, I can't wait till I am able to drive. I miss being able to take care of myself.

pjm Very cute kitty..what is a Ragdoll cat?
BarbaraR I thought anterior approach would not hurt in the back end. I though it would hurt in the front end?
