TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

@hopefaith Who, me? What creepy picture? Or should I say "which" creepy picture?

[Bonesmart.org] Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

I am very frustrated with my knee stiffness. I can't do anything without increased swelling/tightness. Is this typical? I may need to go back on the one long acting med. :sigh: I have no patience today. :boohoo:

Hopefaith, work has been so frustrating, I just hope I find the old work ethic again soon. My best friend and my boss was in my mind wrongfully terminated in Friday. Just nothing good coming from that place right now.

I had PT at 7 am so I could have a more normal workday. I little less loose than in the middle of the day.

Not home from work, class at church and getting supper until 730, I am wiped out!

HF, the tightness and swelling is very normal, sad to say. You're just 2 months out and it will last for a while longer. It's uber aggravating, I know, but it will get better in time. Maybe 2 weeks, maybe another 2 months. I honestly had the tight feeling well into month 5, but I don't have it anymore. I do still have the swelling and my knee feeling heavy/full most of the time, but even me, the slowest recoverer on the planet apparently, is getting a tiny bit better every day. I promise it will get better - it just takes time.

Hi @hopefaith - be patient with yourself. It will come. It is funny how we are quick to say this on other people's threads but if we look back at our own we are just as frustrated. We are all in together and that is the magic of this forum. I am rooting for you and hope you get some relief soon.

@Tamsmom - sorry to hear that you are having problems at work. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could only work when we wanted with only people we liked? My boss is being more patient with me. He knows that I am frustrated by my progress and that I am doing what I can. We are very close in age and have known each other for years. He is now going through some health concerns himself so I think he is being more mellow with me.

@71Beetle I try to be encouraging despite what I am feeling in the moment. I also want to be honest about my own struggles. Both can be true. I hope I never stop cheering others on. It is part of my own healing. I am discouraged today so I share that too.
Best,
~~hopefaith

@hopefaith - I am very happy that you share your ups and downs and cheer others on. You have certainly cheered me up numerous times and I thank you for that.

Here's the way I handle the tightness as well as the numbness. I don't worry about it. It's me now. Of course I'll rest when I can, ice and elevate. I notice it but don't worry about it as I don't worry about my nose, which has been large all my life. (I think the knees have a better shot of getting looser though. )

I still have that tight feeling all the time, and swelling, it increases if I do too much. Still taking pain meds around the clock, decreasing slowly. If I let the pain increase too much, I really get upset and depressed, so know I need to stay on top of it.
Hopefaith, thanks for your encouraging posts on my thread, I appreciate your support and I know others do too.
Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

@Pumpkln @JustJeff @DogLoverx3 @71Beetle thanks for your word of "it'll get better". It is just so hard to believe some days.
@Pumpkln I have a question I think you can answer. What makes a person what they are called under their name? Is it how long they have been on the site, or when their TKR was? I am curious. :)

Hope your morning and afternoon are going well. I was up with chickens (don't know where that came from....no chickens around here.). With decreasing meds. I don't sleep as well. @JustJeff I think you mentioned that a few weeks ago. How long did it take to improve? I still have a long way to go in getting off all of them. But once again I think I have been under medicating.
Wouldn't it be fun if we could all be beamed somewhere for a couple of hours and meet in person. This is definitely the next best thing. Thinking of you all so much.

Good morning!
I was so tired last night that I fled to bed as so as I could. And so....I was awake at 3 am for a good hour and a half and fell back asleep to "I love Lucy" and now I don't want to wake up!

I need to remember to call doctor for Tramadol.

The knee is doing pretty well, ROM hangs around 116. My sister who is a PT said with me having short legs my range of motion won't ever be 130-135...
